Book Blurb:

Kissing the wrong guy days before her scheduled wedding leads Allison to become a runaway bride. But can it also lead to happily ever after?

Allison Denman is supposed to get married in five days, but everything is all wrong. The huge wedding. The frothy dress. And the groom.

Still, kissing the groom’s brother, Daniel, in an unguarded moment is decidedly not the right thing to do. How could she have made such a mistake? It seems Allison’s life is nothing but mistakes at this point. Daniel’s adventures—chronicled through a collection of postcards—have always appealed to Allison’s well-hidden desire for something more. But how can betraying her fiancé’s trust lead to a true happily ever after?

Can Allison find her way out of this mess? Recognizing she doesn’t have all the answers won’t be easy because she’s used to being in control. To find her way again, she will have to believe that God has a plan for her—one outside her carefully defined comfort zone—and find the strength to let Him lead.
My thoughts:

A sweet read with flawed yet likable characters that you can't help but root for. I loved the llamas! A very nice debut novel. And love the cover! :)

Wedded to War by Jocelyn Green - Review and Giveaway!

Book Blurb:

It's April 1861, and the Union Army's Medical Department is a disaster, completely unprepared for the magnitude of war. A small group of New York City women, including 28-year-old Charlotte Waverly, decide to do something about it, and end up changing the course of the war, despite criticism, ridicule and social ostracism. Charlotte leaves a life of privilege, wealth-and confining expectations-to be one of the first female nurses for the Union Army. She quickly discovers that she's fighting more than just the Rebellion by working in the hospitals. Corruption, harassment, and opposition from Northern doctors threaten to push her out of her new role. At the same time, her sweetheart disapproves of her shocking strength and independence, forcing her to make an impossible decision: Will she choose love and marriage, or duty to a cause that seems to be losing? An Irish immigrant named Ruby O'Flannery, who turns to the unthinkable in the face of starvation, holds the secret that will unlock the door to Charlotte's future. But will the rich and poor confide in each other in time?

Wedded to War is a work of fiction, but the story is inspired by the true life of Civil War nurse Georgeanna Woolsey. Woolsey's letters and journals, written over 150 years ago, offer a thorough look of what pioneering nurses endured.

Jocelyn Green's debut novel is endorsed by historians and professors for its historical accuracy and detail, by award-winning novelists for its spell-binding storytelling, and by entertainment journalists and book club leaders for its deep and complex content, perfect to share and discuss with others.
My thoughts:

Loved it! Several times during this book, I found myself pausing to appreciate the beautiful imagery and turns of phrase that this author wove into her story. Reading it felt effortless, there was so much going on yet all intricately woven together, never allowing the pace to lag. Great characters, too. I really enjoyed it and highly recommend it. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

May Author Newsletter (and Giveaway!)

Hello, friends! I hope you are having a wonderful month of May so far. Mine started out rainy, but today is sunshiny and beautiful... And I have a sunburn to prove it. ;)

Without further ado, my monthly update:

Life Stuff:

Picture
Well, it has been an interesting month. I got married on April 4th, so it has been a month of growing and adjusting to my new role as a wife, homemaker, and life partner. It's challenging at times (stop laughing, married ladies), but very rewarding. I thank God on a regular basis for putting my best friend and me together. (Also, please bear with me as I get the website name, theme, etc. and changed over.)

I've also been adjusting to living in one place. In my previous life as a full-time RVer, the idea of staying in one town longer than a month was preposterous. Of course, there are times that I miss the constant changes of road life, but I'm adjusting well to stationary life, really enjoying it, even. :)

Honestly, the thing I miss the most is my family. My parents, brothers, and sisters have been my best friends, colleagues, and trusted confidants for as long as I can remember. I've lived with them for almost 26 years, so my roots stung a little when I was transplanted, especially when they left FL last week to continue their tour up north.  However, while I definitely miss being able to sit down with one of them over a cup of coffee or going to a movie with them, it's okay. We still talk, text, SnapChat, and FaceTime every day. And my twin sister’s wedding is in June, so I’ll be able to see them then. It’s all part of growing up and following God’s plan for your life, I guess. :)

So, what has happened in your life this month? Any changes?

Writing Stuff:

I took the month before and after getting married off in my writing to get settled and focus on the more important things in life. (I know, what kind of a writer am I?) Now, it’s back to the ol’ keyboard. This month, I am researching the location and solidifying the storyline for my inspirational romance novella. It’s set in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Google has just enough pictures out there to start any writer drooling over the delicious possibilities. I'll be posting some pics in the next newsletter, but good grief! Can we say “INSPIRED?!?" No, just me? Ah, well...

I’m tempted to just start writing and see what happens, but I tend to write more productively when I have a guideline to follow.  I seriously can’t wait to jump into this thing. Writers, what are you writing this month? Readers, does this sound like someplace you would like to visit?

Reading Stuff:

As you know, it was a relatively busy month, so I didn’t read as much, but here are the books that I read:
And I am currently reading:

Prayer Requests:

I'm a big believer in the power of prayer. I have my notepad full of prayer requests next to me as I type, actually. Here is my list so far, but if you have a request, please comment or tell me about it. I'd be honored to add it to the list here and to my personal list. Or I can keep it anonymous if you would prefer. As far as I'm concerned, there's nothing too small or big to pray about. Here are my requests:

  • for protection and grace for my family as they travel and tell the nation about our Savior
  • for traveling mercies for my mom as she is in Alaska visiting her father, sister, brother, and other family members there
  • for God's leading and direction in my writing this month
  • for grace for my husband and I as we learn how to live together
  • for God's direction in both of our lives, both personal and professional
  • for the families of the Oklahoma tornado victims
  • for my sister as she plans her wedding (and that my husband will be able to get off of work so he can attend)
  • for several unspoken/anonymous requests

Thanks, my friends. I appreciate your prayers more than you know. Again, if I can pray for you, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Question of the Month (QOTM):

I like to learn about my newsletter readers and your likes, dislikes, expectations, etc., so I am asking a question each month. I want to give you what you want, and what better way than to ask you! So here goes:
