Review: I, Claudia by Charity Bishop

Book Blurb:

The nightmares began in my childhood…

Since then, they have grown stronger. Horrific dreams of blood and death, of dark specters and betrayal haunt me.

Mother wants me to become a seer in the temple of Minerva. I would much rather marry the dashing military commander, Pilate, instead. Every augur that sees me, fears me. They know, as I do, that something is different about me, something I cannot control, and that will haunt me until a Jewish messiah takes my hand in Judea.

Not even he can save me from what lies ahead in Rome, nor, I fear, can he save Pilate from a choice that will change the course of history forever.

My name is Claudia, and this is my story.

My Review:

Wow. Pilate's wife is mentioned once in the Bible, but you have never seen her brought to life quite like this before. Claudia's story drew me in from beginning to end. There were so many characters and sub-plots woven though the story, but it only added to the depth and enjoyment. I really enjoyed this author's story. If they're as good as this one, I  hope to see many more.

My Rating:

Five Stars!

3 Copies of "The Fall" by Chana Keefer - Giveaway and Review!

Book Blurb:

THE FALL is a biblical retelling of ancient times through the eyes of an angel who was once best friends with Lucifer.

If M. Night Shamalayan, Steven King, C.S. Lewis & J.R.R. Tolkien collaborated on a story about our origins and the Garden of Eden, this might be the result.

Main Characters:

Rapha: A faithful angel who witnesses the cause and effect of Lucifer's fall from grace. Rapha becomes the mentor/tutor to Adam and Eve.

Lucifer: Beautiful, seductive, brilliant, ambitious, vindictive angel intent on replacing the most high God as ruler of creation.

Adam: Preteen, mischievous, daring, slightly pampered son of the Most High.

Eve/Glory: Preteen, brilliant, curious, fun-loving, betrothed to Adam.

Take a journey to the beginning. Pull back the veil on biblical history and mysteries. This is a worldview changer.

THE FALL isn't afraid of collision: spirituality & science; good & evil; truth & deception; religion vs. relationship; grace vs. prejudice--the joy of fairy tales combined with suspense, horror and an epic love story.

Rapha, once Lucifer's best friend, had a front-row seat for every crucial moment that shaped the world we live in today. This faithful angel wants to tell you his story. But beware, this is not a journey for the faint-of-heart. Ahead there be giants--plus demons, centaurs, mermaids, demi-gods and war that extends from the beginning of time. In the tradition of J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis and Frank Peretti, THE FALL (The Rapha Chronicles, Book 1) melds science fiction, fantasy, epic adventure and mythology.

My Thoughts:

This book was many things: beautiful, disturbing, lyrical, enlightening. I feel like I need to sit somewhere by myself and explore the ideas expressed in this book. Warning: This story is gritty and there may be some scenes that make you uncomfortable. However, I believe the discomfort was worth it to discover the spiritual truths that were wrapped in this story.

I'm really glad I read it. My faith was refreshed as I read about how much God loves, longs for, and forgives his children, even when they fail him. This book has worn me out emotionally, but in a good way. It also made me think. Well done, Mrs. Keefer. I look forward to the next installment.

I won this book in a giveaway, so special thanks to both the author and the great folks at www.bookfun.org.

Happy August!

Picture
Hey everybody! I hope you are all doing well as we enter this new month. Thanks for visiting and hope you enjoy this month's update!

Life Stuff:

Well, life for the Hurtt herd was pretty quiet last month. My Hubbins had a big inspection at work that they had to work a lot of overtime on, but they passed it with flying colors. :) I wrote a lot (more on that later), so everything else took a backseat. Hubbins and I have been looking for a second vehicle since we have been sharing one when his was totaled in June, but so far, we haven’t found the right one to fit both our needs and our budget. (Newlyweds = no money. Remember those days? LOL) Maybe this month will be the month we have 2 cars again! :)

Writing Stuff:

Well, like I told you last month, I participated in Camp NaNoWriMo and finished the month with 25,000 words added to my Rio novella. I was hoping for 35,000, but the more I write, the more I learn about the act of writing. This is my third fiction manuscript, and I’ve learned that none of them are the same. Some flow onto the page quickly and effortlessly, and some require some prodding and patience. This manuscript was the latter, so I’m happy with what I got. :)

My goal for the month of August is to write the remaining 10,000 words and start the rewriting and editing process. August has some exciting writing contests coming up, so I might enter one of those, if both the novella and my finances cooperate.

How about you? Are you writing anything this month? What are your goals?

Reading Stuff:

Last month, I didn't read as much, but here's a list of what I finished:

And I'm currently reading:

How about you? What are you reading this month?

Prayer Request Stuff:

Here are August's prayer requests. I will add more as I receive them. If there is anything I can pray for you about, please drop me a line or comment. I would be happy to add it both here and to my personal list.

Tori H. - a friend’s daughter who fell and now is dealing with a head/brain injury

Maxie A. - another friend who took a fall last month

Heidi T. - a friend going through chemo right now, prayers for her family requested, too.

Michelle L. - having issues with her teeth, has to have one extracted

Melody D. - missionary in Nicaragua

Mike W. - heart problems

My family - safety as they travel and sing

Our car issue - that my hubby and I will find the right car and not get stuck with a bad one

Question of the Month (QOTM):

Okay, it's an easy question this month... Just enter your answer into the comment box(es.) Add as many genres as you would like!

What are your three favorite genres?

Submit

Last Month's Winners:

The winners of last month’s books were:

“A Broken Kind of Beautiful” - Tabitha

“Four Weddings and a Kiss” - Pam Kellogg

“Mending the Doctor’s Heart” - Rita Navarre

Congrats and thanks for participating! Don’t forget to check back for this month’s lineup!

Giveaway Time!

Again, I'm giving away 3 books this month, but I'm changing things up a little bit. Instead of posting all the giveaways at the same time, I am giving away one book at a time and posting another giveaway every 9-10 days. We’ll see how it goes!

The first giveaway should be live when this post goes live, so good luck, happy reading, and thanks again for visiting my blog!
