Giveaway and Review: "A Wild Goose Chase Christmas" by Jennifer AlLee

Book Description:

Upon her grandmother's death, Izzy Fontaine finds herself in possession of a Wild Goose Chase pattern quilt that supposedly leads to a great treasure. Of course, once the rest of the family finds out about the "treasure map," they're determined to have a go at the treasure themselves. And, if that weren't enough, Max Logan, a local museum curator, contacts Izzy and says that Grandma Isabella promised him the quilt.

What is it about this quilt that makes everyone want it? Is Izzy on a wild goose chase of her own, or a journey that will lead her to the treasure her grandmother intended?

My Thoughts:

This was a cute, quick read that I enjoyed. I loved all of the characters (even the ones that were jerks in the beginning... They grew out of it.) It was a nicely paced story. Perfect for the holidays!

(I won this book in a giveaway from Book Fun Magazine, which is a great resource for readers and can be found at BookFun.org.)

My rating: 4 out of 5 stars.

Giveaway and Review: "A Soft Breath of Wind" by Roseanna White

Book Description:

A gift that has branded her for life

Zipporah is thirteen when the Spirit descends upon her, opening her eyes to a world beyond the physical goings-on of the villa outside Rome she has always called home. Within hours, she learns what serving the Lord can cost. Forever scarred after a vicious attack, she knows her call is to use this discernment to protect the Way. She knows she must serve the rest of her life at Tutelos, where the growing Roman church has congregated. She knows her lot is set.

Yet is it so wrong to wish that her master, the kind and handsome young Benjamin Visibullis, will eventually see her as something more than a sister in Christ?

Samuel Asinius, adoptive son of a wealthy Roman, has always called Benjamin brother. When their travels take them to Jerusalem for Passover, the last thing he expects is to cross paths with the woman who sold him into slavery as a child the mother he long ago purged from his heart. His sister, Dara, quickly catches Benjamin s eye, but Samuel suspects there is something dark at work.

When Dara, a fortune-teller seeking the will of a shadowy master determined to undermine the Way, comes into the path of Zipporah, a whirlwind descends upon them all.

Only the soft wind of the Spirit can heal their scars...with a love neither divination nor discernment could foresee.

My Thoughts:

Oh my goodness, y'all... I cannot recommend this book enough. It is one of the best books I've read this year. I had the chance to read it before it's publishing date and the worst part was not being able to share it with others immediately.

Mrs. White is a masterful storyteller and has written a doozy of a novel. She has a knack for introducing impossible situations, then turning things around in a believable but still awe-inspiring fashion.

If you are looking for something to entertain, send you on a roller coaster of emotions, and renew your faith, this is the book for you. It drew me in completely and I fell in love with each of the many characters. They were so well developed and the storyline was so amazing, I was drawn in from the first chapter and it wouldn't let me go until the end.

I was both encouraged and convicted by the spiritual truths presented here. Just go read it. You'll be glad you did. :)

Merry Christmas! (A little early.)

Hey, guys! Hope you're having a wonderful holiday season! As you can see in the picture, I built a book Christmas tree on my kitchen table. It took a few tries, but I really like how it turned out! It doesn't look like much, but that's around 75-80 books right there. Don't worry, I saved a stack to read. LOL

Life Stuff:

Well, since Thanksgiving has just passed, I've been feeling the afterglow of thankfulness. Although I was really disappointed that we didn't get to celebrate the holiday with my family due to last minute car trouble, it was still a good day with just Hubbins and me. As our first Thanksgiving together, it was especially poignant because he was deployed over the holidays last year. I try to never take his presence for granted, especially this month.

Something else to be thankful for this month is that my family is coming into my neck of the woods! As full-time musicians and RVers, I don't get to see them as often as I would like, but for the next two weeks, they're all mine! Can't wait to see them and spend time together.

How about you? What are you thankful for this month?
I just got some exciting news on the writing front: my novella finaled in the ACFW First Impressions Contest! I'm super excited about that and am attempting to channel that excitement into my editing so I can finish this project, though it will probably be after the holidays before I can really get to it. Wish me luck!

How about you? Did you write anything this month? Any Nanowrimo writers out there? I was cheering for you!
