Author Mini-view:

Hello, readers! I'm pleased to feature author Angela Ruth Strong to the blog today. Let's get this interview started!

Tell us a bit about yourself and your writing.

My mom was a writer, so I grew up with stories about myself in magazines like Women's World alongside pictures of me sporting a mullet haircut. (Thanks, Mom.) So when I wrote an article in high school, I just figured I was supposed to send it to a magazine. Easiest $100 I ever made. I went to the University of Oregon for journalism, but it's never been that easy again. My first book Love Finds You in Sun Valley, Idaho, came out in 2010, and is one of the books in the series being considered for a television movie right now. Talk about a dream come true. But I've also written women's fiction, a middle-grade series, and I'm now writing romantic suspense as part of Team Love on the Run.

What is your favorite Bible verse?

This week: "He rescued me because he delighted in me." --Psalm 18:19
I felt led to send it to a friend yesterday, and she texted me back saying she just got a new job. It's nice being rescued, not to mention delighted in.

What have you read lately that you would recommend?

Secret Life of Book Club by Heather Woodhaven. I love, Love, LOVED it.

What book are you featuring today?

Love on the Run is is a novella collection of romantic suspense stories by Team Love on the Run. I had a blast writing my novella, False Security, and I'm honored to get to work with other amazing authors on the team.

If you could tell people who are going to read/have read your books one thing, what would it be?

I don't write "safe" books. I write about people who love Jesus but still make messes of their lives sometimes. Thank goodness God delights in us enough to rescue us.

About the Author:

Picture
Bio: Angela Ruth Strong writes light-hearted and life-changing love stories. The "light-hearted" part comes from her ability to get into interesting situations--such as a hamster ball race or riding on the shoulders of a unicyclist. The "life-changing" part comes from the power of God's love and the beauty of her very own romance. The "story" part comes from her passion for books that she got from her writer mama. And there's nothing else she'd rather do than share these stories with you.

Find her online at www.AngelaRuthStrong.com and www.TeamLoveOnTheRun.com.

Hey Angela! Thank you for not writing "safe" books. I enjoy reading books that give me hope in the midst of trials.

Thanks, Caryl. I also grew up as a pastor's kid and know that nobody is perfect. Even when we know what's right, it's still so hard sometimes. The wrong thing can feel sooo right. And I love that you mention hope. Because I think that should really be what sets the Christian book industry apart.

I'm glad you don't write "safe" books... Life is messy & makes books more believable ;)

Life is messy, but as an author I know that the darker the "black moment" the more powerful the resolution. So when everything is going wrong and THEN I get a flat tire, I shake my fist at the Author of Life and say, "I'm onto you." He created us to be overcomers, and our stories of overcoming will inspire others.

You are a new to me author. Your books sound great. I also am glad you don't write safe books. I enjoy reading real to life books.

I'm new to a lot of people. :-) Being part of the Love Finds You series was pretty awesome because even though nobody knew who I was, they bought my book anyway. Being part of a team is pretty powerful. I'm blessed to work with so many authors that people do know. ;-)

Aren't you glad that even though we make huge messes of our lives, that Jesus is there to pick up the pieces and make something beautiful out of it? Kind of like a stained glass window, just some pieces of broken glass, but when put together, make a beautiful masterpiece! I never thought of it that way before, God just showed that to me :-) Thanks for being "real" in your writing, I like when authors have flawed characters and how they handle life, hopefully relying on God! Gives me hope and encouragement :-)
Your novella sounds good, thank you for the chance to win a copy.

Trixi, that is a beautiful image. God showed my friend Betsy St. Amant something similar, and she used the idea in her book Love Arrives in Pieces. You would love it. Also, I'm honored to be one of the friends Betsy dedicated that book to. Love arrives in pieces, and those pieces often come from unexpected places.

I like your verse of the week. This week I would say mine is Psalm 139:16...You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. (NLT) Absolutely amazing to me.
Thank you for sharing part of your life with your readers.

I love hearing that, Ksukat. Wouldn't it make a fun movie? My friend Christina Berry actually said that she thought it would make a great movie in her endorsement on the back cover. And Betsy St. Amant said it about my novella False Security. Hope you like it, too!

I'm with you, Kim. I want to write real characters and make people think about their own real lives, which can be uncomfortable at times. But no matter how much we mess up, there is always hope. And that's the message I want to share with the world. Hope.

I thought I would share what I am reading right now, because I am loving it - Amish Promises by Leslie Gould. I have never read an Amish Christian novel before. I'm not sure why I avoid them, but this particular one intrigued me. Maybe because it involves both an Amish family, as well as Englishers. I am really enjoying it and very impressed with the writing.

I don't read much Amish either, but I love Leslie Gould. Thank you for sharing! And you also might enjoy this upcoming Amish movie based on a book in the Love Finds You series: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plSyak2D_dM
