Book Blurb:

Jeff Goins, a brilliant new voice counting Seth Godin and Jon Acuff among his fans, explains how to abandon the status quo and live a life that matters with true passion and purpose.

The path to your life’s work is difficult and risky, even scary, which is why few finish the journey. This is a book about discovering your life’s work, that treasure of immeasurable worth we all long for. It’s about the task you were born to do.

As Jeff Goins explains, the search begins with passion but does not end there. Only when our interests connect with the needs of the world do we begin living for a larger purpose. Those who experience this intersection experience something exceptional and enviable. Though it is rare, such a life is attainable by anyone brave enough to try.

Through personal experience, compelling case studies, and current research on the mysteries of motivation and talent, Jeff shows readers how to find their vocation and what to expect along the way.

My Thoughts:

It took me a chapter or two to get into this book, but once I did, I truly enjoyed this unique take on finding your calling and doing what you were meant to do.

All too often, we spend our time pursuing things in life like comfort, fame, and fortune, but what if we are doing it the wrong way? We chase our dreams when we are young, only to “settle” for the safer option as we grow older or fail so epically that we can’t bear to try again. When did work become work? What if it could be a calling? You'll find the answers to these questions and more in the pages of this book.

Full of true stories, thought-provoking quotes, and ideas, this book will make you reconsider everything you’ve ever thought about work and success. Finding your calling isn’t just for the lucky few. It can be for everyone.

Here are a few of my favorite quotes from the book, just so you can get a taste of what Goins is offering:

“As it turns out, this is a great formula for moving in the direction of any calling: find what you love and what the world needs, then combine them.” – Page 92
“Your calling is not a destination. It is a journey that doesn’t end until you die.” – Page 181

All in all, this book has earned 5 stars from me.

Book Blurb:

The first book in a new YA historical fiction series from bestselling author Jody Hedlund.

Due to her parents' promise at her birth, Lady Rosemarie has been prepared to become a nun on the day she turns eighteen. Then, a month before her birthday, a friend of her father's enters the kingdom and proclaims her parents' will left a second choice-if Rosemarie can marry before the eve of her eighteenth year, she will be exempt from the ancient vow.

Before long, Rosemarie is presented with the three most handsome and brave knights in the land. But when the competition for her heart seemingly results in a knight playing foul, she begins to wonder if the cloister is the best place after all. If only one of the knights-the one who appears the most guilty-had not already captured her heart.

My Thoughts:

First of all, the cover is gorgeous! And even better, the story behind it is just as great!

"An Uncertain Choice" is a great read. While it's YA in tone and voice, I know a lot of people regardless of age will be able to appreciate the story and its themes.

It is set in medieval times and you feel like you are there thanks to the descriptions and details.

I loved the blossoming romance between the hero and heroine. It was also a nice change not knowing who the hero was going to be, between the 3 knights. I hope the author tells the other 2 knights' stories. :)

There was enough intrigue and mystery to keep the pace moving, leading up to an explosive finale at the end of the book.

4 stars for a lovely and inspiring read!

Book Description:

Her secret cloaks her in isolation and loneliness. His secret traps him in a life that is not his own.

Darbury, England, 1819

Cecily Faire carries the shame of her past wherever she treads, knowing one slip of the tongue could expose her disgrace. But soon after becoming a lady’s companion at Willowgrove Hall, Cecily finds herself face-to-face with a man well-acquainted with the past she’s desperately hidden for years.

Nathaniel Stanton has a secret of his own—one that has haunted him for years and tied him to his father’s position as steward of Willowgrove Hall. To protect his family, Nathaniel dares not breathe a word of the truth. But as long as the shadow looms over him, he’ll never be free to find his own way in the world. He’ll never be free to fall in love.

When the secrets swirling within Willowgrove Hall come to light, Cecily and Nathaniel must confront a painful choice: Will they continue running from the past . . . or will they stand together and fight for a future without the suffocating weight of secrets long kept?

My Thoughts:

I enjoyed this sweet Regency romance. This is my first book by this author, but I’ve heard good things about her books and I'm so glad I picked it up.

This author painted lovely word pictures with her powerful descriptions. I felt like I could see every detail that was described. While this slowed the story down a bit for me, I still liked it. The pace was perfect for its genre.

I connected with both of the main characters, Cecily and Nathaniel. They were broken people with secrets in their pasts that they wanted to keep hidden. Their individual journeys to freedom, redemption, and forgiveness were heart-warming and affirming, especially when those journeys intertwined.

Cecily’s search for her twin really connected with me, since I am a twin myself. My heart went out with her through the entire story.

I also loved the scenes with Cecily and Nathaniel's family. The welcoming atmosphere and love drew me right in. I loved the sense of unconditional love and family.

4 stars for a lovely, enjoyable read.
