Book Blurb:

THREAT OF EXPOSURE
Someone wants reporter Madelyn Sawyer to leave the small coastal town she's just arrived in—even if it takes hurting her. But she won't give up her goal of investigating Waterman's Reach's new police chief that easily. Madelyn assumes that former big-city detective Zach Davis—who some believe is a murderer involved in a drug-trafficking ring—is behind the threat. Who else would have a motive? But as bullets fly Madelyn's way, it's Zach who keeps saving her life. The closer she gets to the truth, the more she wants to tell the handsome lawman why she's really in town. But if she does, will she lose his trust…and any hope of surviving long enough to bring the real killer to light?

My Review:

Dark Harbor definitely starts with a bang! From a wild car chase to being threatened and robbed to being rescued by the very man she is there to investigate, Madelyn Sawyer's first day in Waterman's Reach is definitely a doozy. Trying to keep up false pretenses as she digs into an old drug case that could skyrocket her career, Madelyn finds herself targeted and in danger again and again. But could it be the police chief that keeps rescuing her?

Zach Davis is doing some investigating of his own. When the pretty travel writer shows up in his small town, she throws a wrench in his plans, but someone is obviously targeting her and it's his job as a police chief to protect her.

This was a fast-paced story that I really enjoyed. It wasn't easy to figure out who the bad guy was... It still took me by surprise at the end of the book. There was lots of action and that kept things from getting too slow.

The romance was really sweet. I could understand and sympathize with both Madelyn and Zach. It was easy to see that they were good for each other.

All in all, this was a good book that I enjoyed reading. I look forward to reading what this author produces next.

Review: The Good Girl by Christy Barritt

About the Book:

What's a good girl to do when life goes bad?

Tara Lancaster can sing Amazing Grace in three harmonies, two languages, and interpret it for the hearing impaired. She can list the Bible canon backward, forward, and alphabetized. And the only time she ever missed church was at seventeen because she had pneumonia and her mom made her stay home.

But when her life shatters around her and her reputation is left in ruins, Tara decides escape is the only option. She flees halfway across the country to dog-sit, but the quiet anonymity she needs isn't waiting in her sister's house. Instead she finds a knife with a threatening message, a fame-hungry friend, a too-hunky neighbor, and evidence of...a ghost?

Following all the rules has gotten her nowhere. And nothing she learned in Sunday School can tell her where to go from there.

"The Good Girl is at turns scary, funny, passionate and quirky...the perfect book to carry in your beach bag." ~ USA Today

My Thoughts:

I’ll admit it… I let this book sit waiting on my Kindle for way too long before picking it up. Because I’ve always identified myself as a “good girl” like Tara Lancaster, the main character, I’ve been intrigued by her story. I’m so glad I found time to read this great book.

Tara has been a “good girl” her entire life and nothing has panned out like she wanted it to. In fact, her life has fallen apart in a huge, public way. She struggles with feelings of abandonment and disillusionment towards God. Having been in ministry myself for a large portion of my life, I could totally relate to her feelings when things don’t turn out like I plan and I end up hurt and dejected. Little thoughts whisper into my ear just like they did in hers, things like “Isn’t life supposed to be easier because I’m doing what God wants? Isn’t God supposed to bless me more because I “earned” it?” Like Tara, I had to learn that it isn’t about what we do or how good we are. It’s all about Jesus and when we take our eyes off Him and settle our sights on other things, whether it’s becoming the “perfect” Christian or developing our own set of rules, it’s only a matter of time before we slip and fall.

When she runs away to Minnesota to house-sit for her sister, the last thing she expects is to find… something… that obviously doesn’t want her in the house. What follows is a mystery of intrigue, spookiness, and danger as she tries to figure out who or what is haunting her sister’s house. Cooper, the hunky boy-next-door comes to her aid and adds a lovely touch of romance to this story.

It was an easy, quick read and the tension was spread nicely throughout the book. I give this great read 5 stars!

My Thoughts:

This was such a cute novella! I picked it up in hopes that it would be something to get me in the holiday spirit, and the latest book in the Holly Anna Paladin series was exactly what I needed!

Holly Anna is one of my favorite of Christy Barritt's characters and this latest story doesn't disappoint. Book Blurb:

Gabby St. Claire knows how to clean up scum. She can get blood out of carpet, pick shattered bones from plaster, and clean up other less-than-enticing fluids from nearly any surface. St. Claire also knows how to clean up another kind of scum— the scum of the earth.

Crime scene cleaner and wannabe forensic investigator Gabby St. Claire knows her best friend, Sierra, isn’t guilty of killing three people in what appears to be an ecoterrorist attack. But Sierra has disappeared, her only contact a frantic phone call.

Crime scene evidence Gabby discovers while cleaning ties seemingly random murders together—and points to Sierra as the guilty party. Just what has her animal-loving friend gotten herself into?

If that’s not disturbing enough, who’s the person following Gabby? A federal agent who hopes Gabby will lead him to Sierra? Or someone with more sinister plans?

To find Sierra and prove her innocence, Gabby will have to rely on all of her training and abilities, plus the help of a man she loves and the protection of a God she’s only recently begun to believe in.

My Thoughts:

I waited way too long to read the third installment of the Gabby St. Claire mysteries after reading the first two (I'm talking years here), so it took me a little while to refresh my memory. But I'm so glad I picked up this book... It was the same snarky humor, crazy situations, and emotionally-deep moments that made me fall in love with the first two!

It's been fun to watch Gabby grow and deepen as a character... Following her as she deals with learning how to forgive her father and herself for things that happened in the past was thought-provoking, to say the least. It definitely stepped on my toes, but in a good way. :)

Gabby's and Riley's romance was delightful, too. I can't wait to see what happens next in their story.

5 stars for a truly excellent read!

Book Blurb:

“Break up with Chase Dexter, or I’ll kill him.” Holly Anna Paladin never expected such a gut-wrenching ultimatum. But the man threatening her makes it clear he’s dead serious. With home invasions, hidden cameras, and bombs threats, Holly must make some serious choices. Whatever Holly decides, the consequences will either break her heart or break her soul. She tries to match wits with the masked man, but he’s always a step ahead of her. The more she fights, the deeper she’s drawn into the perilous situation. Dealing with the ultimatum, her sister’s wedding problems, and riots that have broken out in the city, Holly’s nearly at her breaking point. She must discover the identity of this mystery man before someone she loves dies. But the deceit is threatening to pull her under . . . six feet under.

My Thoughts:

Wow, what a difficult predicament Holly finds herself in!

I really enjoyed the second book of the Holly Anna Paladin series. The suspense was strong and held steady throughout the book. The romance and romantic tension between Holly and Chase was perfect. The climax was satisfying and all the questions get wrapped up beautifully by the end of the book. Loved it!

Along with the sweet romance and wild suspense, there were some quiet introspective moments in this book as well, with Holly dealing with the previous loss of her father and her reflections on the rioting that goes on through the story.

The only thing that pulled me out of the story was a handful of typos - missing punctuation, wrong words, etc.

But other than that, it was excellent! 4 stars for an awesome read!

Book Blurb:

TO CATCH A KILLER

Trusting the wrong person had gotten his father killed. CIA agent Ed Carter isn't about to repeat the mistake. Pulling a gun on nurse Bailey Williams may not have been the smartest idea, but the beautiful caretaker is Ed's only suspect in the murder. Problem is, her vulnerable brown eyes claim innocence and set off his protective instincts. The spark between them is undeniable, but Bailey could never trust her life—or her heart—to a man who thinks her guilty. But when the real killer returns and threatens not just her but her family, Bailey must place her faith in the only man who can keep them from being silenced forever…

My Thoughts:

This was a strong, intense suspense story that I really enjoyed. It didn't have the lighthearted humor of Christy's Gabby St. Claire series, but it was still a good read.

The tension was strong throughout this book because both of the main characters have secrets that they can't tell the other, so it's basically a tug-of-war over who's going to be honest first. Throw in super spies, a creepy house, and a murder and you're in for a wild ride!

I loved the setting and fell in love with the island of Smuggler's Cove.

4 stars for a high-intensity, thrill ride.

Book Description:

Savannah Harris vowed to leave behind her old life as an intrepid investigative reporter. But when a friend raises suspicions about two migrant workers who’ve gone missing from the sleepy coastal town Savannah calls home, her curiosity spikes.

As ever more eerie incidents begin afflicting the area, each works to draw Savannah out of her seclusion and raise the stakes—for both Savannah and the surrounding community. Even as Savannah’s new boarder, Clive Miller, makes her feel things she thought long forgotten, she suspects he’s hiding something too, and he’s not the only one. Doubts collide in Savannah’s mind: Who can she really trust?

As secrets emerge and danger closes in, Savannah must choose between faith and uncertainty. One wrong decision might spell the end…not just for her, but for everyone around her.

Will she unravel the mystery in time, or will doubt get the best of her?

My Thoughts:

Wow, what a ride! I've been a fan of Christy Barritt for years and her newest novel doesn't disappoint!

This inspirational read is an equal mix of mystery and romantic suspense. It seems like everybody has a secret. Oh, and there's a psychotic stalker/killer on the loose. The author did a great job by keeping you guessing who the bad guy was through the entire book. The tension was sky-high.

I loved the characters, especially the hero and heroine. They both had to overcome obstacles to reach their happy ending, but they definitely earned it.

I love this author's writing style. It sucks you right into the story. No lie, there were times that I sat down to read one chapter, only the find that 50 pages had flown by.

There were also some great spiritual truths presented here. All in all, I loved this book. Can't wait to see more from this author.
