251. Faceless Transformation
251. Faceless Transformation
Derivation thoughts were outstanding in deducing refinement recipes, but even Lo Jik would be pressed to spend a long time trying to develop a killer move as as Familiar Face. While it was a killer move meant to disguise a gu master, a young Thieving Heaven Demon Venerable had used Familiar Face to slay two rank 8 gu immortals indirectly. In history, Thieving Heaven Demon Venerable had once relied on to transform into all sorts of appearances. Thieving Heaven Demon Venerable had once scammed rank 8 Deng Zuo Yan as a rank 6 gu immortal, causing Deng Zuo Yan to think that Thieving Heaven Demon Venerable was his best friend named Wan Che Zhen. In the end, Deng Zuo Yan allowed the Thieving Heaven Demon Venerable into his house, and Thieving Heaven Demon Venerable used the opportunity to steal a lot of treasures in Deng Zuo Yan's blessed land. After that incident, Deng Zuo Yan was angered to the point of spitting out blood.
Deng Zuo Yan found Wan Che Zhen and engaged in a fierce battle. It was an extremely heated match. Wan Che Zhen was very puzzled. Wan Che Zhen tried to explain himself but it was not working. In the end, Wan Che Zhen took a risk and stopped defending himself, letting Deng Zuo Yan deal three blows to him. After three blows, Wan Che Zhen was on the verge of death, allowing Wan Che Zhen to finally managed to convince Deng Zuo Yan of their friendship. Deng Zuo Yan felt deep regret. Deng Zuo Yan tried to heal Wan Che Zhen regardless of the consequences. After Deng Zuo Yan found out the truth, he saw Thieving Heaven Demon Venerable as his most hated enemy and one that he must kill.
Wan Che Zhen's grave injuries could not heal, and seeing that Deng Zuo Yan was about to face a tribulation, Deng Zuo Yan did not want to be a burden to his friend and left secretly. But to think that Thieving Heaven Demon Venerable had perfect timing—Thieving Heaven Demon Venerable disguised as Wan Che Zhen and lied to Deng Zuo Yan, lying in bed and pretending to be ill, extorting countless cultivation resources from him. After that, Thieving Heaven Demon Venerable escaped scot-free. Deng Zuo Yan lost a huge amount of his foundation and died during his heavenly tribulation and earthly calamity not long after. Wan Che Zhen heard that his friend had died and vomited blood from anger. His weak body that was heavily injured finally gave in and he died several days later.
So, even if Familiar Face was not an offensive killer move, it dealt severe blows to two rank 8 gu immortals!
After becoming a venerable, Thieving Heaven Demon Venerable collaborated with Long Hair Ancestor to refine immortal gu worms. Even if Thieving Heaven Demon Venerable had been a rank 9 gu immortal, invincible throughout heaven and earth, he still required the assistance of the refinement path supreme grandmaster, Long Hair Ancestor. Thieving Heaven Demon Venerable eventually compensated Long Hair Ancestor with killer moves due to the rising cost of the refinement and a number of failures when refining the gu.
The series of transformation killer move—Unfamiliar Face, Vaguely Familiar Face, and Familiar Face—was one such payment.
Unfamiliar Face was a mortal killer move, capable of changing a gu immortal’s appearance to a great extent without any outer distinction. A man could become a woman and a zombie could pass of as a living human.
Vaguely Familiar Face improved upon Unfamiliar Face and was an immortal killer move. Unfamiliar Face could not disguise the user’s aura but Vaguely Familiar Face filled this gap. However, the user must have great acting skills or they would give away their disguise.
Familiar Face was the epitome of this series of concealment-type killer move, using three immortal gu worms and over twenty mortal gu worms. Not only did it disguise the user and their aura, but it also left the viewers with an intense feeling of familiarity. As such, whoever the user of this killer move interacted would be left with a positive attitude towards the user even without trying to act. The effects of this killer move were so spectacular that a rank 6 gu immortal managed to fool a rank 8 gu immortal!
And that’s why Lo Jik focused on this series to create a concealment-type killer move. While Fairy Yi would not be around, he did not dare underestimate a Will left behind by a grand rank 8 gu immortal.
Using these three killer moves reduced Lo Jik’s work load significantly. Not only did it involve the mystery of transformation path, it also mimicked the effects of wisdom and qi paths.
And Lo Jik’s greatest trump card, the legendary rank 8 Disguise Immortal Gu, displayed a great resonance with Familiar Face.
Of course, the ability to support the use of tens of Derivation Thought Gu worms hastened the deduction of the killer move inside Pool of Wisdom.
‘It’s done.’
Lo Jik opened his eyes after a single day of deduction. He had five days left.
He purchased several gu worms from Treasure Yellow Heaven and practiced using his killer move.
Tens of gu worms floated in his blessed land one after another, letting out dazzling light. In the center remained a single immortal gu worm: rank 8 Disguise Immortal Gu. Among the several mortal gu worms were some familiar ones such as Lo Jik’s Accumulation Gu, Fickle Travel Gu, Fake Mind Gu, Fake Soul Gu, Martial Artist Gu, Schemer Gu, and even Dreamer Gu. He also utilized Hairy Transformation Gu, Rockman Transformation Gu, Eggman Transformation Gu, and such. It was a human path killer move mimicking transformation path effects.
Lo Jik felt something amiss just as he was about to activate Disguise Immortal Gu. He abruptly stopped circulating his essence within the mortal gu worms. Using killer moves was filled with dangers. Stopping a killer in such a manner instantly caused a backlash!
**
He shook. The veins around his eyes, mouth, and ears ruptured apart as blood filled his vision. Lo Jik’s mind instantly weakened and nearly collapsed!
‘Just my luck, I had to suffer such grave injuries from a backlash.’ Lo Jik spat a mouthful of black blood. The intensity of injuries from a backlash varied greatly and depended on circumstances. Not only did Lo Jik suffer physically and mentally, a cursory glance down his neck would leave others mortified as the skin around his chest hardened and sprouted a carpet of hair no different from a hairy man. Not only that, almost all the mortal gu worms in the killer move perished at once.
‘I expended a lot of my accumulated luck during my advancement. Every fortuitous encounter consumes one’s luck and even creates unfortunate circumstances. Similarly, surviving disasters often leads one to great fortune.’ His understanding of luck path had deepened a great deal, allowing him to realize the true cause of his current plight.
‘Fortunately… I have Self Chant Gu and Everlasting Health Gu.’
Lo Jik started healing himself. Everlasting Health Gu used a lot of primeval essence, which was no longer a burden. He simultaneously pondered about the killer move.
Immortal killer moves were incredibly complex since they involved the unique fragments of the great dao. Just one round of deducing the killer move did not imply a certain success but merely a step forward. Lo Jik’s act of abruptly stopping the killer move had nothing to do with his deductions but his instincts a human path great grandmaster. Only when using the gu worms in the sequence meant for the killer move did his guts twist into a knot, forcing him to cut the process short. There was something wrong with the killer move and activating it completely would have also led to a backlash, which might even negatively impact his vital gu worm.
Lo Jik could not afford any injuries to Disguise Immortal Gu Worm.
So, he started another round of deductions as tens of Dreamer Gu continued to refine certain dream path gu worms.
The group of Dreamer Gu displayed heightened abilities ever since he understood the true function of Dreamer Gu and enjoyed the benefits of natural inspiration elevating his comprehension of the dream dao to the level of a quasi-grandmaster. Not only did they explore self-dream realms quicker, but their efficiency in refining dream path gu worms also increased by a level.
Furthermore, using Dreamer Gu continuously also had the great advantage of advancing Lo Jik’s dream path attainment. Just because dream realms did not supplement one’s understanding of dream path did not stop human path gu worms like Dreamer Gu to advance Lo Jik’s comprehension.
‘Second round.’ Lo Jik spent another day deducing the killer move. Four days remained.
Lo Jik added a total of thirty Accumulation Gu worms and added a couple of transformation path gu: Rank 5 Transformation Mirror.
Transformation Mirror Gu, once activated, turned into a square mirror, which transformed into any individual it reflected. Of course, this transformation did not turn gu into a clone as it remained unresponsive and in a singular spot.
‘Good.’
Lo Jik’s gaze brightened as he activated the killer move. He did not any hesitation during the process as he calmly activated Disguise Immortal Gu. Despite being a rank 8 immortal gu, it did not require any immortal essence to activate but instead relied on one’s mental energy. Lo Jik’s mind became even more robust since his ascension.
Tens of mortal gu worms floated in Lo Jik’s blessed land, releasing a dazzling, multi-colored glow. Disguise Immortal Gu, in the center of the array of gu worms, targeted said gu worms.
A mystical change occurred inside Lo Jik’s blessed land as all the mortal gu worms started revolving around the group of Transformation Mirror Gu Worms.

**
Barely a breath of time passed in Immemorial Desolate Grotto-Heaven even when the killer move took its time during activation.
The group of Transformation Mirror Gu Worms released blinding light. The supplementary gu worms all melted wherever the light passed. The melting liquid rushed towards the Transformation Mirror Gu before taking a physical form—an ornate mirror.
It was a human-sized rectangular mirror, its frame depicting a mural of humans, variant humans, and beasts alike. Strangely enough, the mirror did not reflect the view of Lo Jik’s blessed land. Instead, there was an empty white space inside the mirror with one figure.
This figure was naked and tall. He was a muscular man yet thick skin obscured the definition of his muscles. He was far from being lean and appeared robust with a broad back, bulging muscles and slightly thick waist. His thighs were as thick as some gu master’s waist and solid like barks of an ancient tree. The figure boasted no hair. He was completely bald, lacked eyebrows and eyelashes, and did not have a hint of body of facial hair.
The strangest characteristic about this figure was his face.
Instead of eyes, nose, and a mouth, the figure’s face completely flat and covered by thick skin.
A faceless man. The sight was eerie and eldritch, to say the least.
Human path immortal killer move: Faceless Transformation.
With a thought, Lo Jik noticed the figure in the mirror change. While still as thick and broad, the faceless man in the mirror grew out short brown hair, thick eyebrows, eyelashes, and even hair on chest, calves, arms, and other regions.
Meanwhile, Lo Jik looked at himself in a mirror.
Bald.
He was bald again. The aura of a peak stage rank 5 gu master concealed the true breath of his immortal aperture.
Faceless Transformation was catered to Lo Jik’s needs. Unlike Familiar Face, which could be used to transform into anyone or anything, Faceless Transformation could be used to transform into a pre-determined target. In this case, Lo Jik could only transform into himself when he was a rank 5 gu master. Furthermore, it did not instill warm and positive feeling in third parties.
Familiar Face was superior in these aspects.
However, Lo Jik’s current circumstances demanded something like the Faceless Transformation.
Sure, the killer move expended all the mortal gu worms, some of which were rare and costly. Just Lo Jik’s Accumulation Gu was enough to cause a storm in Treasure Yellow Heaven since he could display the effects of an immortal gu using mortal killer moves. However, the benefits were too great.
Faceless Transformation created a mirror every time it was activated, allowing the gu immortal to transform into people or things reflecting in those mirrors without consuming any more immortal essence. So, Lo Jik could accumulate hundreds and thousands of transformations!
Since it was a killer move with passive effects, once used, Lo Jik did not have to expend further mental energy either. So, even exploring the manifested dream realms would not stop the killer move. Lastly, Lo Jik was confident in its ability to conceal him because it used Familiar Face as a foundation and rank 8 Disguise Gu.
Lo Jik wasn’t the first to create such a killer move. Back then, Jiu Loong Long moved in a Wisdom Carriage Gu affixed with a golden horse on top of it. It was also marked with an immortal killer move, which the disgraced and exiled Wind Cloud Manor’s elder used to hunt his targets.
Of course, this killer move’s major limitation was its cost and the fact that the user needed to act well enough.
Fortunately, it was enough for Lo Jik’s current needs. He did not need to act because he was using this killer move to conceal his immortal cultivation.
‘Concealment—check.’ Lo Jik hummed. Even other extraordinary gu immortals would spend a long time trying to deduce such an outstanding killer move. Fortunately, Lo Jik already possessed a firm foundation and references in deducing this killer move.
His second objective was to prepare for the dream realm.
Lo Jik became even more cautious of Bai La’s dream realm after learning a great deal about dream path from natural inspiration. His and Fairy Yi’s earlier predictions and observations about tangible dream realms differed greatly from the actual thing.
‘And there’s Feng Jin Huan in there, too.’ He felt a headache thinking about certain details. He wanted to keep his relationship with Bai La a secret from Feng Jin Huang. Unfortunately, something in the dream realm might have at their relationship, causing the extracted Will from Feng Jin Huang disguising as the real thing to question Lo Jik.
‘Fairy Bai Qing must have used Calm Will Gu or Benevolent Will Gu, else Feng Jin Huang wouldn’t have remained so… .’ He mused. ‘How should I deal with it?’
‘The best-case scenario will be to… well…’ Lo Jik smirked knowingly. ‘At best, I’ll have to choose Bai La over Feng Jin Huang.’
Of course, who would want to make such choices?
Lo Jik believed in Giant Sun Immortal Venerable’s way and… well, seduce a great many beauties.
‘What kind of rewards will I gain as a gu immortal?’ Lo Jik’s eyes twinkled with curiosity and greed. Something within stirred, something which took time for Lo Jik to control as shifted in his seat.
He truly wanted to ignore Bai La’s plight and start testing his trait.
His blessed land was a paradise untouched by tribulations. Furthermore, he could enter his blessed land without placing it down! So, Lo Jik could get as many mortal beauties he desired in his blessed land and have fun for days without a care in the world.
But…
‘Would it not be even better with a gu immortal like Bai La by my side?’ Lo Jik’s fickle heart pounded with anticipation as his thoughts churned with lustful intentions.
Lo Jik regained his composure soon enough and focused on task at hand.
Dream path…
Dream realms…
He needed a viable method to defend himself against the effects of dream realm. While Lo Jik did not have any dream path defensive gu worm, he did possess a dream path healing gu worm’s recipe: Dream Soul Flower Gu. It healed the gu master’s soul when dreaming.
There was another aspect to consider when exploring the dream realm—the soul. Dream realms naturally corroded the soul. Manifested dream realms displayed even greater intensity in corroding a gu master’s soul. The best way to prevent the soul from collapsing was to strengthen and refine it.
Lo Jik’s Fake Soul Gu was a human path gu capable of refining the soul. Meanwhile, Dang Hun’s Guts Gu was the best gu worm to strengthen one’s soul.
So, Lo Jik had two options ahead of him to prepare for the dream realm.
He could either spend the remainder of his time deducing dream path defensive gu worm, refine it in great numbers, and form an immortal killer move to defend against the effects of dream realms…
Or, he could simply strengthen his soul’s foundation a great deal and endure the dream realm’s corrosion since his strengthened soul will be concealed due to Faceless Transformation and keep Fairy Yi’s Will from being alerted.
Both these options had risks due to the time constraint.
The first option was clearly more time-consuming. Meanwhile, the second option meant refining something outstanding enough to rival Guts Gu in strengthening the soul because he could not use Guts Gu to surpass his current soul foundation as a mortal.
After all, the cleansing of heaven and earth qi had elevated his state of existence, making his physical body more durable in accommodating more dao marks on his soul. As such, he could strengthen and refine his soul beyond a thousand-man soul. The trip in the dream realm wouldn’t become any less dangerous but improving the soul foundation directly improved Lo Jik’s rate of survival.
‘Only four days remain… well, I can extend this duration to six days. After all, I can enter my own blessed land and enjoy time dilation of 30:1 as compared to the grotto-heaven’s 20:1. Just that this option is also risky because I have yet to spend time and deduce the feeding requirements for Inviting Pagoda Immortal Gu. Using it recklessly might spell its untimely end.’
Lo Jik felt conflicted.
Guts Gu being a human path gu left a huge impression on Lo Jik. It was a mortal gu worm yet it was greatly desired by gu immortals, a legendary gu worm created within a Secluded Domain of Heaven and Earth.
It wasn’t that Lo Jik wasn’t confident in refining a gu worm capable of rivaling Guts Gu… but he could not predict the duration needed to strengthen and refine the soul to make this option viable.
On the surface, the second option might seem more viable due to Lo Jik’s human path great-grandmaster attainment, but this decision also involved an unknown period of time spent cultivating the soul.
Meanwhile, the first option might seem more reckless, but Lo Jik could already display effects rivaling immortal gu worms using mortal killer moves. It wasn’t necessary to deduce an immortal killer move—making the process simpler even with all the lengthy steps.
‘I’ll have to choose that method.’ Lo Jik’s eyes glimmered with resolve after a few seconds of solemn consideration.
