Chapter 98 : Team Leader
Chapter 98 : Team Leader
The two sat quietly in the room like this. Lin Bai didn't know what to say. Blood Princess looked at Lin Bai, Lin Bai looked at Su Wanying, and Su Wanying looked at Blood Princess then at Lin Bai. After this continued for quite a while, Su Wanying held her forehead and said:"Is there anything else?"
"Ah."
Lin Bai scratched her head. She didn't know what to do next either. Since entering the room, the watch had only displayed one sentence.
【Be yourself】
【What does this want me to do? Be the original Lin Bai?】
Su Wanying was also somewhat helpless. New employees often didn't know what they should do. It seemed she needed to set a small goal for the newcomer.
"Since you don't have anything to do, go handle a couple of anomaly missions."
"Okay, are there rewards?"
"The Bureau will provide compensation. But considering you helped me yesterday, once you complete the missions, I'll do you a favor."
"Good."
【Perfect, I'll take you to that bar to check it out】
Leaving Su Wanying's office, Lin Bai asked the receptionist for directions to the commission room and successfully found it.
Walking into the room, she saw a middle-aged woman with glasses organizing documents on her desk. The walls were covered with various commissions.
"Hello, I'd like to take on two commissions."
The administrator only then looked up at Lin Bai.
"Hmm? Haven't seen you before. New person? What grade?"
"B-grade, just arrived today."
The administrator pushed her glasses and carefully examined her for a while, then searched through and pulled out several mission documents.
"Lin Bai, right? You choose."
"Eh? How do you know?"
Lin Bai spread the mission documents on the desk and began studying them.
"Mission Level: C, Confidentiality Level: Limited to Investigation Bureau personnel, Mission Location: XX Residential Complex at 2 AM, Mission Information: According to residents' reports, singing is often heard from downstairs at 2 AM. After investigation, nothing was found, but the complex has had multiple disappearance cases. Tentatively classified as C-grade. Requirements: Solo."
Lin Bai nodded and accepted this mission, then continued observing other commissions.
"Mission Level: Tentatively B-grade, Confidentiality Level: Limited to Investigation Bureau personnel, Mission Location: XX Cemetery, Mission Information: During a live exploration stream, a network streamer suspected discovering anomalous existence. Information has been sealed and modified through cognitive filter to 'discovered mysterious creature.' Investigation revealed multiple corpse anomalies inside, but exact numbers and grades unclear. Since they won't leave the cemetery area, temporarily shelved and not yet cleared. Requirements: Three-person team."
"Need a team? As a B-grade contractor, can I take it directly?"
The administrator shook her head.
"Young man, don't be careless. It's better to be cautious. Besides, those are the rules, I can't make exceptions for you."
She then added:
"You can ask in the hall if anyone's willing to go with you. This mission's reward is one B-grade anomaly core per person, plus what you kill yourselves. It's definitely a substantial amount, so there should be quite a few people willing to go."
"Alright then."
【Perfect, I'm almost out of cores anyway】
【Still have one A-grade one I've been reluctant to eat】
Lin Bai came to the hall, where many people were waiting to be assigned missions. Those who hadn't reached B-grade couldn't take missions themselves - only squad leaders could. Otherwise, they could only wait to be assigned.
"I'm Lin Bai. Anyone want to come with me on a B-grade mission? Just need two people to make up the numbers."
The people in the hall hadn't seen Lin Bai before. Their first reaction upon hearing this was to ask those around them.
"Who is he? I've never seen him."
"I don't know either."
"He looks pretty young. Didn't they say only B-grade contractors can take missions?"
A bearded middle-aged man waved his hand mockingly.
"Kid, you probably haven't even grown all your hair yet and you want to take B-grade missions? Hahaha."
Where there's one voice of doubt, there's a second. Other voices immediately arose around them.
"That's right. I've never seen him. He's probably a new rookie who doesn't know the rules here."
"Kid, we veteran seniors have to wait here for missions. You should just sit here and wait obediently."
Lin Bai didn't want to waste words. She just sighed and counted time in her mind. If no one came, she could just switch to another mission.
Seeing Lin Bai's indifferent attitude, a nearby man and woman looked at each other, nodded, and walked up.
"We can team up with you, but teaming up requires mutual understanding. Can you let us see your contracted anomaly?"
They also summoned their contracted anomalies - one was a burly man with a chainsaw, and the woman's contracted anomaly was a husky.
Seeing this, Lin Bai nodded and called out Blood Princess.
Accompanied by a tearing sound, a bloody crack opened, and Blood Princess emerged holding a scythe in one hand. A powerful aura spread out. She had just heard these people mocking her master, and now everyone could feel her powerful presence.
"Wow wow wow!"
"What a beautiful contracted anomaly, and this aura - at least B-grade!"
The bearded man who had mocked Lin Bai earlier immediately widened his eyes. This was a B-grade mission - if he could follow along and ride the big shot's coattails, wouldn't that be a free B-grade anomaly core?
"I was blind! Boss, do you still need people?"
Lin Bai smiled and said:
"No need, we have enough people."
"Boss, I'm stronger than those two! Please take me!"
Lin Bai shook her head and left with the man and woman, returning to the commission room.
The middle-aged woman looked at Lin Bai and the two behind him, nodded, and handed the mission document to Lin Bai.
"Be careful."
"Thank you."
The two followed behind Lin Bai, introducing themselves.
"Captain, I'm Wang Li. Just call me Xiao Wang."
The woman said somewhat shyly:
"I'm Su Xuan. Just call me Xiao Su."
"Mm, just follow behind me when the time comes. You won't need to fight."
"Ah? That doesn't seem right. After all, we're taking payment."
"Right, looking at the mission document, though it's classified as B-grade, there probably aren't any B-grade anomalies. They should all be C-grade corpse anomalies and skeletons. We can help out a bit too."
"Xiao Su is right. Otherwise we'd be taking a B-grade anomaly core for nothing, and we'd feel bad about it."
"Fine, but don't get too far from me. Staying alive is the priority."
"Yes, Captain!"
"Yes, Captain!"
The two stood straight and saluted. A B-grade anomaly core was worth at least tens of thousands if converted to money - working one day could let them rest for several months.
【And the captain's contracted anomaly feels even stronger than regular B-grades】
【I must hold tight to the big shot's coattails】
【Hee hee hee】
