Chapter 686 - 686: Back to Pallet Town
Chapter 686 - 686: Back to Pallet Town
"Vire..."Electivire watched Gary pull his hand away, then looked down at its own body.
It didn't feel anything special.
Gary checked Electivire's updated data.
[Pokémon: Electivire ♂]
[Type: Electric]
[Level: 63]
[Potential: Champion]
[Ability: EX Motor Drive — When hit by Electric-type moves, Electivire takes no damage. Instead, its Speed rises by one stage, and the power of its Electric-type moves increases by 1.5 times.]
[Moves: Leer, Thunder Shock, Charge, Shock Wave, Electro Breakup, Swift, Thunder Punch, Discharge, Ion Deluge, Light Screen, Thunder, Low Kick]
[Taught Moves: Mega Kick, Thunderbolt, Signal Beam, Dynamic Punch, Rest, Hyper Beam, Body Slam, Iron Tail, Ice Punch, Power-Up Punch, Psychic, Reflect, Protect, Earthquake, Rain Dance, Hidden Power, Taunt, Wild Charge]
[Friendliness: 255/255]
[Held Item: Best Magnet]
"Oh, so it increased the power of Electric-type moves."
Gary was a little surprised. After Motor Drive was strengthened, it hadn't improved the speed boost any further. Instead, it had gained an effect similar to Flash Fire, increasing the power of moves after activation.
"What a pity. Motor Drive is still a passive ability."
That was the biggest problem.
Any experienced Trainer would know better than to hit Electivire with Electric-type moves. And now that Electivire had shown Ion Deluge in battle, those who had seen it would also be careful using Normal-type moves, since they could be converted into Electric-type attacks and absorbed.
So, in practical terms, this strengthening did not change much.
At most, it satisfied Gary's curiosity.
If he had enhanced an Ability that directly boosted physical moves by 20%, the improvement would have been immediately useful in battle. But Electivire only had these two Ability options right now, and using Ability Enhancement Fossils on it was honestly not the best value.
"Vire?"
Electivire noticed Gary staying quiet and asked what had changed.
"It changed quite a bit," Gary said. "After Motor Drive is triggered, it won't just raise your speed anymore. It will also increase the power of your Electric-type moves."
Electivire's eyes lit up.
"Vire! (^▽^)!"
Seeing how happy it was, Gary decided not to dampen its mood.
Still, he couldn't help thinking that Electivire was a little too easy to please.
Your Ability is passive. In team battles, everyone knows what your Ability is. Nobody is going to casually use Electric-type moves against you.
And in external battles, any Trainer who does even basic research will know Electivire has Motor Drive and Ion Deluge. They won't trigger it unless they're forced to.
If Gary ever entered the World Championships and used Electivire after reaching the advanced stage, opponents would definitely study its data beforehand. At that point, Electivire's Ability would almost never activate naturally.
That said, Motor Drive was not completely useless. Its existence alone could stop opponents from using Electric-type moves freely. With Ion Deluge, it could also restrict Normal-type moves in certain situations.
From that perspective, the Ability still had value.
If he got more Ability Enhancement Fossils in the future, he could consider unlocking Electivire's Hidden Ability as well.
After that, Gary released Rhyperior and used two Gold Bottle Caps to raise both Electivire and Rhyperior's potential to the Quasi-Legendary level.
Both were part of his first-team Pokémon. They had stayed at Champion potential for more than two years now. It was time to raise their ceiling.
Once he finished strengthening Electivire and Rhyperior, Gary recalled them and returned to his room to pack his luggage.
His restriction order had also been lifted.
After spending one last night in the competitors' village, Gary left early the next morning without saying goodbye to Ash and the others.
He rode Latios straight back to the Kanto Region.
It only took one morning.
At around one in the afternoon, Gary finally arrived at Pallet Town.
Latios landed directly in the backyard of Professor Oak's Laboratory.
"Vee!"
As soon as Gary jumped down from Latios's back, an Eevee rushed out of the grass nearby. It leaped onto his shoulder and immediately began rubbing its cheek against his face.
"We haven't even been apart that long," Gary said, rubbing Eevee's head. "Don't be so clingy."
When Gary had arrived at Lily of the Valley, he had sent all the Pokémon he couldn't use during the Conference back to Professor Oak's Laboratory. Eevee had been one of them.
"Woof!"
"Kami!"
Soon, more of Gary's Pokémon gathered from all directions.
Not all of them came, but more than half were there.
Gary had caught fifty-four Pokémon in total. That was quite a lot, though about one-fifth of them were mainly kept for collection rather than training. Pokémon like Butterfree, fossil Pokémon, and some Shiny Pokémon fell into that category. He did not plan to keep breeding and training all of them.
"These are your new friends," Gary said, releasing the Pokémon he had brought back from Sinnoh. "Get to know each other."
Togekiss, Heatran, and Darkrai appeared in the backyard.
All three had been caught by Gary in the Sinnoh Region, so this was their first time meeting his older Pokémon.
"Dak..."
Darkrai looked uncomfortable.
It was used to being alone. Seeing so many Pokémon around at once made it feel uneasy. If it had to live here from now on, it would need time to adjust.
"Darkrai, don't worry," Gary said. "With the Lunar Wing suppressing your Ability, you can get along with everyone normally."
"Dak."
Darkrai nodded. It would try its best to fit in.
Heatran, on the other hand, had no problem at all. Its personality was more straightforward and practical. Although its appearance was intimidating, once the other Pokémon spent some time with it, they would understand that Heatran was not difficult to get along with.
"Gary!"
A voice came from behind.
Gary turned and saw Professor Oak walking over.
"Grandpa, I'm back."
"You really know how to hide things," Professor Oak said, hurrying over. "You caught Heatran and Darkrai, but didn't even tell me."
He was clearly scolding Gary, but his eyes never left Heatran and Darkrai.
Gary could already guess what his grandfather was thinking.
He was deciding which one to study first.
"Grandpa, if you want to study one of them, start with Heatran," Gary said. "It's more honest. Darkrai is a little afraid of strangers and needs time to adapt to life here."
"All right, I'll listen to you." Professor Oak nodded. "You must be tired after traveling all the way back. Go rest. Leave your newly caught Pokémon to me."
"I'm not tired," Gary said. "I'm going to check on my other Pokémon later."
"Oh?" Professor Oak immediately understood. "You want to see how much progress they've made while you were in Sinnoh?"
"Yes."
Gary did not deny it.
He had been in Sinnoh for more than half a year. It was time to see how much his Pokémon had grown.
