Chapter 1156: Night
Chapter 1156: Night
"You lost that arm in battle with Pei Yan, didn’t you! You forgetful fool, I’ll cripple your other arm now." Faced with Nero’s provocation, Dragon King Zhuo Geng roared as the dragon tail caught by Nero suddenly sprouted more than a dozen bone spurs. The hard bone spurs pierced through the scales, forcing Nero to let go of the dragon tail in pain. As soon as he released his grip, the liberated dragon tail swung like an iron whip at his waist. Just before it was about to sweep Nero, a long sword blocked its path.
The long sword lodged between the bone spurs of the dragon tail, preventing any further movement. Zhuo Geng angrily looked at the suddenly intervening Shitang Longsi, wanting to fight back but unable to move. Besides having his dragon tail and one arm restrained by the two of them, venomous snakes released by Ivan quietly converged from all directions. Temporarily, the Dragon King’s ankles and body were disturbed by these creatures. The hellhounds, though unable to bite through the Dragon King’s hard armor, refused to give up and used their sharp claws and teeth to cling to the gaps between the scales, stubbornly adhering to Zhuo Geng like plasters.
"You soulless, nauseating artificial beings, get off me!" Covered almost entirely by the two kinds of creatures, Zhuo Geng roared as the venomous snakes climbed toward his mouth. His already formidable body began to swell once more.
Bang! Accompanied by the wailing of hellhounds, Zhuo Geng, shaking off Nero and Shitang Longsi, grabbed the beasts clinging to him one by one, tearing them off and slamming them into the ground, stamping them to death. He paid no mind to the ferocious and murderous aura that surged into his body upon their death. Pei Yan was able to suppress this Power of Origin in the arena. As a clan leader who had trained and cultivated far longer than this young man, he had no reason not to achieve the same.
Zhuo Geng’s stature continued to grow until it reached about six meters, towering over those around him much like a crane among chickens. However, Zhuo Geng knew that the five individuals before him, possibly all younger than his son combined, were not to be underestimated. If he didn’t fight with all his might today, he just might fall at the hands of these juniors.
With this realization, Zhuo Geng hesitated no more as sharp dragon claws pierced his chest. Amidst the squeal-inducing, ear-splitting sound of bone scraping, the claw that had entered the depths of his chest slowly withdrew, pulling out two long bone spurs from the bloody mess.
"A Divine Artifact! A life-bound divine artifact nurtured by his own blood!" Watching Zhuo Geng extract the two bone spurs from himself, one transforming into a greatsword, the other turning into a round shield under the stimulation of his energy source, Nero couldn’t help but furrow his brows in hesitation.
"A clan leader from the Lord of the Dragon Realm’s lineage, carrying two divine artifacts, is only to be expected. All this was within predictions and is manageable." Bai Ze said, bending down to place his hand on the ground, issuing a command: "I need some time to prepare. You guys go first, we must defeat him before the Dragon Realm reinforcements arrive."
"Understood." Knowing Bai Ze’s abilities, Nero didn’t see his actions as fear of battle. Agreeing casually, he began to activate his bloodline. Before long, his reinforced body was the first to charge forward.
"It should be you to lead the charge!" Zhuo Geng, not surprised by Nero’s impact, was most familiar with Nero’s techniques due to the Sword Discussion Conference. With a body enhanced by absorbing various bloodlines, he had the qualifications to fight Pei Yan up close. Besides Nero, there was that annoying Shitang Longsi using high-speed movements to approach him.
Bam! The sharp edge of the sword brushed past his nose. Nero’s body came to a halt, his face displaying a look of shock. The next moment, Zhuo Geng, tall and wielding a shield, charged at him like a speeding truck.
Bam! With a cracking sound of bones breaking, Nero, struck in the chest by the shield, let out a muffled groan and was sent flying back.
"Hey, what are you doing?" Ivan, seeing his old partner being knocked back halfway through his charge, stopped in confusion to ask. Zhuo Geng’s ability to perform such agile movements with his massive frame was indeed surprising. However, even with that, his speed shouldn’t compare to Nero’s ability to fight Pei Yan closely. How could Nero fail after one strike and be knocked back so hard by him?
"Be careful, don’t get within the swing range of his greatsword. It’s peculiar!" On the other side, Shitang Longsi, whose ambush also failed, almost lost grip on his long sword as the greatsword rebounded it. With his defenses wide open, a tail whip from Zhuo Geng struck his chest, sending him flying. Without using the Substitution Technique, Shitang Longsi rolled on the ground to halt his tumbling and pressed a hand against the bloody mark on his chest in warning.
"Peculiar? What’s peculiar?" Ivan asked in response.
Nero got back up, and his collapsed chest was almost back to normal. He glared at the greatsword in Zhuo Geng’s hand and cursed, "Damn, that is the rarest type of time-related divine artifact. Once within the range of that longsword’s swing, our movements become uncontrollably slowed, while his become incredibly fast. This can only be felt by entering that range, and outsiders can’t detect it at all. Tch!" Nero spat a mouthful of clotted blood, having been caught off guard due to this peculiarity.
"Eternal Night!" As the two were both getting frustrated, a woman known as the Child of Origin, using the name Night, clapped her hands and pointed a finger at Zhuo Geng in the arena. Instantly, a plume of dark mist descended from above, engulfing Zhuo Geng completely. Soon, the dark mist spread and enveloped the entire battlefield.
This woman was also a mystery to Nero and his group. When it came to receiving prizes from the Sword Discussion Conference, Bai Ze becoming the new Child of Origin didn’t surprise Nero at all. But everyone expected the other newly born Child of Origin to be Mu Fanchen, Candle Dragon’s right hand. However, it turned out to be this woman who appeared out of nowhere. Before her appearance, Nero didn’t even know such a person existed within the organization. She never showed up in the organization nor performed any missions. She also claimed to be a disciple of their teacher Candle Dragon, but except for Bai Ze, who seemed to have heard of her, none of the others had ever seen the teacher instructing her. Even her name was carelessly substituted with the single word Night during introductions.
Although they harbored suspicions about her background, she was still an ally now. So when they saw the dark mist unleashed by her sweeping over, Nero and the others didn’t resist, allowing the boiling mist to swallow them within.
