Chapter 91 : Renovation Site

Renovation Site"How could this happen..."

After hearing Cecilia's account, Gu Yanxi couldn't help but feel a wave of surprise.

However, more than anything, she felt fear.

Just cursing someone in her heart before bed was enough to indirectly kill a person—this was almost like that book where writing someone's name causes their death.

If Cecilia really had such a power, it would be far too terrifying.

Fortunately, Cecilia soon noticed Gu Yanxi's concerns and gently shook her head. "Don't worry. Besides healing faster than normal, I haven't found anything else different about myself for now."

After a brief pause, she continued, "Although I really do wish Dragon Abyss dead, his death this time probably has nothing to do with me. Maybe my subjective thoughts just played a role."

"... You mean?"

Gu Yanxi understood quickly, immediately recalling the suspicion Cecilia had already considered.

"Mm, I suspect that someone knew I couldn't do anything to Dragon Abyss for the time being, so they helped me take care of him from behind the scenes."

Cecilia looked straight into Gu Yanxi's eyes and nodded seriously.

Moreover, this person must know Cecilia very well, must be aware of whom she had recently offended, and must also have the ability to watch or even enter someone's dreams at will.

Cecilia remembered clearly that the previous night, when she cursed Dragon Abyss to die in a car accident or to be scared to death by ghosts before bed, it was all in her mind—she hadn't said a word out loud.

Bringing all these conditions together, in Cecilia's mind, there was only one person who perfectly fit all of them.

That mysterious woman, who called herself Ms. Aesther, whose strength was unfathomable.

If it really was that woman who stepped in this time, Cecilia believed she would have no trouble making it completely untraceable—making a living person from modern times disappear from this beautiful world in the least suspicious way.

Even so, with ninety percent confidence in her conclusion, Cecilia still couldn't rule out a much simpler possibility: that Aesther hadn't acted, and Dragon Abyss really did just get himself killed by drinking and driving.

Her instincts told her that if she could see Su Long—that is, Dragon Abyss's autopsy report—she might be able to find other clues.

She had already asked someone else to take care of the matter, but she didn't know when Little Persimmon Puppy would get that autopsy report. Not wanting to waste time, Cecilia drank some cold water to calm herself, then logged back into the world of Legend of Kaloran.

Once Cecilia left, the only person still awake at home was Gu Yanxi.

She hadn't felt much until just now, but after learning the news of Dragon Abyss's death, Gu Yanxi suddenly found the house chilly. Her hand holding the pen trembled uncontrollably, terrified that in the next second, Dragon Abyss's ghost would rise up behind her to claim her life.

Rigidly sitting at her desk, struggling in her mind for several seconds, Gu Yanxi finally put on her helmet, lay down beside Cecilia, pressed the power switch, reached out her arm, and hugged the soft and fragrant girl beside her. She joined Cecilia in that virtual world.

Cecilia had just woken up on the bed in the inn. Before she even stepped out the door, she saw in the bottom-right corner the friend list notification that Gu Yanxi had logged into the game as well.

Thinking for a second, Cecilia decided to send a message: "Weren't you going to read? Why are you online too?"

In less than a few seconds, she received Gu Yanxi's reply: "After what you said, being at home alone felt scary, so I thought I'd play for the morning."

After telling Gu Yanxi to wait at the central square, Cecilia closed the chat window and left the inn.

At eight in the morning, main City's streets were already bustling. The game didn't have many unlocked features yet and its gameplay was simple—mainly just PVE and PVP. Players were either heading outside the city to grind in the wilds or on their way to the arena.

As soon as Cecilia stepped onto the central square, she immediately spotted Gu Yanxi standing there, waiting.

After all, she was tall and her looks stood out.

Compared to her own appearance now, though, maybe it was still lacking a bit.

Coldly sweeping her gaze around, Cecilia stared down the enthusiastic stares of onlookers, making them retreat one by one. She couldn't help but think helplessly to herself.

Right now, that tall girl dressed in a nun's long robe was quietly standing in place, staring absently at the crowd passing in front of her.

But Cecilia knew she wasn't actually interested in those people—she was just daydreaming.

Without making a sound, Cecilia crept up and patted Gu Yanxi's shoulder from behind.

As she wished, the girl shivered slightly, clearly a little startled.

Turning her head and seeing that it was Cecilia, Gu Yanxi quietly complained, "Can't you make any sound at all when you walk? You scared me to death."

"Really?"

Cecilia lifted her petite right foot, sheathed in white stockings and shoes, and stomped the flagstones twice—sure enough, there was no sound at all.

"Seems like I really have gotten in the habit."

Giving a casual explanation, Cecilia looked at Gu Yanxi and continued, "By the way, want to check out your house? I had an NPC do the renovation yesterday—it should be almost done now."

"Sure."

Gu Yanxi nodded. But soon remembering something, she asked, "Did it cost a lot? That house is three stories. Renovating the whole thing should be pretty expensive, right?"

"It's fine, just a few gold coins. You'll understand when you see it."

Gu Yanxi had already been curious about what her house would look like once renovated, and since Cecilia was suggesting it now, she really didn't mind.

After all, it was still early in the day with plenty of time left. Taking a little detour to look at the house wouldn't delay them much.

Winding their way through the intricate paths of Main City for ten-odd minutes, the two arrived at the small three-story building near the arena.

As soon as they pushed open the door, the scent of sawdust mixed with deafening clangs assaulted them. Dust danced in the sunbeams as over a dozen thin figures wielded iron hammers, pounding away at the old, dilapidated floor.

Judging by the progress, it was obvious that the first floor's renovation wasn't done yet.

As Cecilia and Gu Yanxi stood hesitantly at the threshold, a rough voice called out from within, "Who is it? Come in and talk."

"Let's go have a look."

Cecilia took Gu Yanxi's hand, and the two carefully navigated around the warped floorboards and pits, heading toward the inner room of the lobby.
