Chapter 284 Embroidery
Chapter 284 Embroidery
“Granny Gui,” Madam Wen nodded slowly to the old woman, “I’ve come to take Rongxiu away.”
Upon hearing this, Granny Gui was completely stunned.
Her eyes flickered as she carefully examined Madam Wen.
After three or four years apart, it's hard to guarantee that the person in front of you isn't an imposter.
Seeing this, Madam Wen smiled helplessly and offered her wrist, which had three red moles.
Granny Gui carefully rubbed her wrist, and only after realizing that it was indeed Madam Wen did she breathe a sigh of relief and quickly usher her inside.
As she walked, she asked, "Why would Madam want to leave with Rongxiu for no reason?"
“Something has happened,” Madam Wen said casually. “I’m going to bring Rongxiu to court to accuse Duke Wen of murdering his wife.”
Granny Gui, who was walking ahead, was stunned upon hearing these words.
She stood there, unable to come to her senses for a long time.
"If... if we go to court, then you..."
How could the Duke of Wen possibly let Lady Wen off the hook?
Madam Wen continued, interrupting her thoughts: "Since I have made this decision, I am naturally prepared to die."
Under the watchful eye of Granny Gui, Madam Wen said again, "Granny, as soon as I leave today, pack your valuables and leave the capital, the farther the better."
Granny Gui's eyes reddened: "Madam, why has it come to this? Is there really no way to resolve this?"
What could have made Mrs. Wen make such a decision...?
Thinking of this, Granny Gui felt a chill run down her spine.
She had been guarding the embroidery in this small courtyard. All news related to the outside world was brought by Granny Lin. In recent days, there had been constant turmoil in the capital, so it was understandable that Granny Lin had not appeared. So she stayed in this small courtyard and continued to wait.
Who knew that after waiting for a while, they would be greeted by Madam Wen, and with such shocking news.
She stared wide-eyed at Madam Wen: "You will die too."
She said solemnly, "You may be able to bring down Duke Wen with this move, but in return... all the things you and Duke Wen did will be exposed. At that time, no one will be able to protect you anymore."
Madam Wen gave a bitter smile: "I have no other way out."
“By doing this, we can at least save Tong’er’s life. If we don’t do this, we won’t even be able to save Tong’er’s life.” Madam Wen sighed. “The Wen Shuyao of today is no longer the Wen Shuyao that I can mold at will.”
“She is Princess Jing, and she has evidence of my collusion with Prince Xin.” Madam Wen closed her eyes. “Tong’er’s true identity alone… is enough to condemn my daughter and me to eternal damnation.”
Upon hearing this, Granny Gui finally understood the predicament Madam Wen was in.
Her voice trembled slightly: "But...isn't there any other way?"
“There’s no time left,” Madam Wen said. “Almost a day has passed since Wen Shuyao gave me the three-day deadline, and I have no time left.”
As she spoke, she and Granny Gui walked to a corner.
There is a simple little room at this corner.
The person inside heard the commotion outside, opened their eyes, and saw Madam Wen's face.
Then, a shrill female laugh rang out: "You actually dare to show your face? Zhang Rongrong, you still dare to appear in front of me?"
She gritted her teeth and muttered Madam Wen's name, wishing she could devour her flesh and drink her blood.
Zhang Rongrong!
She stared intently at Madam Wen. Even though more than a decade had passed, the hatred etched in her heart had not faded. She remembered every single thing Madam Wen had done.
Madam Wen instinctively took a step back as she was stared at by the woman's bloodthirsty eyes.
But she quickly regained her composure.
“I’m here to let you out,” Madam Wen replied. “You should be happy.”
Upon hearing this, the woman was stunned.
"Rongxiu, I've come today to help you get revenge," Madam Wen said in a low voice. "Haven't you always wanted to avenge Chu Wanqing?"
Rongxiu raised her head and stared at Madam Wen.
"Revenge?" Rongxiu revealed a face covered in scars, staring hatefully at Madam Wen. "If I want revenge, the first person I'll kill is you! And then that heartless adulterer!"
She hated Madam Wen and Duke Wen to the core, and if she could take revenge, she would make them pay for their blood debts.
"Do you dare?" Rongxiu sneered. "Do you dare let me take revenge?"
"Why wouldn't I dare?" Madam Wen retorted. "Since I've said it, I mean I'm going to do it."
"You will come with me to Yingtian Prefecture first thing tomorrow morning." Madam Wen's words completely stunned Rongxiu.
Rongxiu stared at Madam Wen for a few moments, then suddenly revealed a sinister smile: "You think I'd believe you? How could someone as cowardly as you confess your crimes?"
“You must have something in mind,” Rongxiu said with certainty.
Rongxiu understands Madam Wen. Madam Wen doesn't act without self-interest, so why would she willingly confess? Unless... unless there is an even greater benefit.
Upon hearing this, Madam Wen gave a cold smile: "I do indeed have ulterior motives."
“Between my life and that of my own daughter, I will naturally choose the latter,” Madam Wen said in a deep voice. “I have no other choice, therefore, I have no choice but to hand you over.”
"You can go to Yingtian Prefecture and tell them everything you know."
"I will not stop you. If you don't believe me, you can wait until tomorrow. When you appear at the gate of Yingtian Prefecture tomorrow, you should be able to believe what I am saying."
Madam Wen's expression did not change much; she simply stated a fact.
Rongxiu's expression shifted from vigilance to suspicion, and then from suspicion to silence.
She couldn't believe what Madam Wen said, but the conditions Madam Wen proposed were too tempting for her to resist.
If we could really go to Yingtian Prefecture and bring the truth of everything back then to light...
Thinking of this, Rongxiu's expression gradually became firm: "Alright, then let's go to Yingtian Prefecture."
“Tomorrow morning, I will sound the drum to appeal to the emperor. At that time, you only need to cooperate with me,” Madam Wen said in a deep voice. “You have hated me for so many years. Now that I have given you the opportunity to take revenge, you must seize it.”
Hearing Madam Wen's words, Rongxiu sneered: "Don't worry, even if I have to risk my life, I will make you and that adulterer pay for their blood debt!"
“It’s just a matter of striking the drum to appeal,” Rongxiu said, raising her head. “I can make my own and then strike it.”
Madam Wen smiled and said, "That won't do. I must personally strike the Dengwen Drum."
This was a task assigned to her by Wen Shuyao, and she naturally had to complete it.
For Tong'er...
Her gaze grew increasingly resolute, just like Rongxiu's.
After Madam Wen spoke, Rongxiu's eyes became increasingly strange.
But this matter is now considered settled.
"I want to see you in Yingtian Prefecture tomorrow."
