Chapter 343: Polly’s brother
Chapter 343: Polly’s brother
At the bonfire festival, the enormous plaza blazed with towering bonfires that illuminated the night sky in flickering gold and orange light.
Vangar and Xarion stood among the crowd, watching the countless fires burning across the square. A trace of envy flickered in both their eyes.
The entire festival was filled with females attending alongside their mates.
Around every bonfire stood several male partners surrounding their Female Master, doing everything they could to make her smile.
"It’s all Vincent’s fault."
Leaning lazily against a pillar in the corner, Xarion spoke in a half dead tone.
"If he hadn’t stolen Female Master away, we could’ve been here attending the festival with her too."
Maybe Female Master would have tugged on his ears during the celebration.
Maybe he could have stayed by her side tonight too.
Just imagining it made the wolf happy.
Vangar glanced at him before lowering his gaze to the time displayed on his communicator.
"The festival already started. Why haven’t Female Master and Vincent arrived yet?"
He frowned slightly.
"They’re not skipping it, are they?"
Yuel had said Rory loved lively events. According to him, there was no way she would miss the bonfire festival on Z1689.
If they wanted to see her, this was the place to come.
Unfortunately, Rory had specifically forbidden them from showing themselves, meaning they could only watch from afar.
But for Vangar and Xarion, even catching a distant glimpse of Rory was enough for now.
Vincent had stolen her away for so many days already.
They missed her so badly they were practically going insane.
"They probably won’t skip it," Xarion replied, glancing toward several still empty bonfire circles nearby.
"There are still plenty of open spots. Female Master probably just came later than everyone else."
He paused, then added confidently, "She loves lively places too much. She’ll definitely come."
The moment the words left his mouth, both Xarion and Vangar sensed an overwhelming surge of powerful energy fluctuations.
In the very next second, Vincent appeared in the plaza with Rory cradled in his arms, materializing instantly out of thin air.
The sheer force of his arrival immediately drew countless stares from the surrounding crowd.
But after feeling the terrifying pressure radiating from his power, no one dared approach him out of curiosity.
"They finally came."
Vangar and Xarion quietly let out simultaneous sighs of relief.
Over here, the moment Rory arrived at the plaza, she immediately claimed an empty fire pit and began unpacking everything she had brought with her.
Then she turned to Vincent.
"Vincent, hurry up."
At the words hurry up, the corner of Vincent’s mouth twitched slightly.
With a helpless sigh, he stepped forward and snapped his fingers lightly.
The bonfire instantly roared to life.
"That’s so cool!"
Rory stared at him with undisguised admiration.
If only one day she could become as powerful as Vincent. Imagine being able to snap her fingers and instantly kill a beast. That would be amazing.
"It’s nothing special."
Seeing the excitement shining in her eyes, Vincent fought back a smile and moved to her side. He carefully controlled the intensity and temperature of the fire, making sure the heat would never become uncomfortable for her.
"Vincent, take out the marinated meat we prepared."
As she spoke, Rory casually scanned the crowd.
Sure enough, she spotted Vangar and Xarion standing off in a corner.
She smiled in their direction before quickly sending them a message through her communicator.
Rory: [Wait for me. I’ll find a chance to come see you later.]
She had known those two would definitely sneak over here to watch her.
The moment they received her message, both Vangar and Xarion broke into smiles.
Wonderful.
They would finally get a chance to hug their Female Master later.
"Rory, you’re finally here!"
A cheerful voice rang out.
Polly, the friend Rory had recently made, hurried over with one of her mates.
She carried an elegant food box in her hands.
"Rory, I made this myself. Try it and tell me if it tastes good."
"Thank you, Polly."
Rory happily accepted the food box before handing over the gift she had prepared in return.
"I baked these cookies myself. Give them a try and tell me what you think."
Polly accepted the cookies with visible emotion.
"You’re the first female who’s ever given me a gift, Rory. Thank you."
Polly was beautiful, but a long scar across her face marred her features.
Because of it, she had never really been able to make friends.
Rory had learned that the scar came from an injury inflicted by the insectoid race. Polly had tried countless treatments and had even traveled to Beast God Mountain, yet nothing had been able to remove it.
The two had met the day Rory went downstairs to borrow a communicator.
When Polly learned she needed one, she had immediately offered hers without hesitation.
"If you like them, I’ll make more for you in the future."
Rory pulled Polly down beside her.
She took out the marinated meat Vincent had prepared earlier that afternoon and began grilling it with her.
"Polly, let me treat you to some barbecue."
"It smells amazing!" Polly inhaled deeply, nearly drooling.
"Rory, your food smells incredible. I haven’t even tasted it yet, and I already want to eat everything."
"I didn’t make it."
Rory immediately gave credit where it was due.
"My mate made it."
She praised Vincent without the slightest hesitation.
Seated on her other side, Vincent listened quietly. The smile tugging at his lips simply refused to disappear.
"Wow, Rory, your mate is incredible. He’s even better than my brother."
Staring at the fragrant meat sizzling over the flames, Polly hesitated before asking shyly,
"My brother is coming later. Would it be alright if I shared some of the barbecue you gave me with him?"
"Of course." Rory smiled. "I can even teach you how to grill it yourself so you can make it for him."
Females were not supposed to cook for unfamiliar males.
Doing so could easily be interpreted as romantic interest, making a male believe she wanted him as a match or a follower.
Rory could not personally grill food for Polly’s brother, but she could certainly teach her how to do it.
"Really?" Polly’s eyes lit up. "You’d actually teach me?"
She felt incredibly lucky to have found such a wonderful friend.
The gratitude in her eyes was so intense she looked ready to cry.
"But Rory, I don’t have anything valuable to teach you in return. Can I trade you something else?"
"We’re friends. If you say things like that, I’ll be upset."
Rory looked at her seriously.
"Then I won’t say it anymore."
Polly immediately covered her mouth.
The adorable gesture reminded Rory so much of the little neighbor girl who used to trail behind her everywhere when she was young.
Smiling, Rory placed the freshly grilled meat in front of her.
"Go ahead and eat."
"Rory, you’re so nice."
Polly picked up a fork and was just about to take a bite when she caught sight of a tall figure dressed in white approaching from the distance.
Her face instantly lit up.
She jumped to her feet and waved excitedly.
"Brother! You finally made it!"
Rory looked up.
The moment she saw the man approaching, she froze.
Polly’s brother was actually him...
