Chapter 318 - 257: Arriving Home
The wild mountain goat of the Yukon River, also called the great wild white sheep, is a species native to Northwestern North America.
This animal is almost entirely white, and its most distinctive feature is its beautiful, curled horns.
Its range primarily covers the Alaska Sub-Arctic Mountain Range Region, the Yukon Region, the McCarthy Mountain Range Region, and the Northwest Territory.
It was quite a scene when the townsfolk arrived at the airport, their pickup truck jostling along as it carried three wild mountain goats.
BAA! BAA! BAA!
The three wild mountain goats—two large, one small—were trussed up tightly and thrown in the bed of the pickup truck.
It wasn’t just Feng Shan who was seeing a wild mountain goat for the first time; even the other townsfolk were curious.
Wild mountain goats are rare and hard to catch. They tend to live on ridges, steep mountain slopes, and other remote areas.
The townsman who had captured the three wild mountain goats said smugly,
"Pal, the big ones are a male and a female, about 240 pounds. Let’s call it 1,000 US Dollars, and I’ll throw the little one in for free."
The other townsfolk stared wide-eyed when they heard the price.
"Blaze, you’re as ruthless as Pete! A thousand US Dollars for three wild mountain goats? For God’s sake!"
"Fuck, you’re ruining Ruby Town’s reputation."
"I won’t let you sell them like that! Ruby Town is a decent town. We can’t have a crook like you here."
Faced with the townsfolk’s accusations, Blaze stuck to his price and even retorted.
"What do you think these are, reindeer or salmon?"
"These are rare wild mountain goats from the Yukon River, and they’re alive! If you think you can do better, go catch three live ones yourself."
His two sentences shut the townsfolk right up.
Unchecked hunting in recent years had made the wild mountain goats of the Yukon River increasingly rare. It could take weeks to hunt just one, with no guarantee of success.
Feng Shan, however, wasn’t concerned about the price.
’Money can always be earned, but you don’t always come across live mountain goats. Especially not a male and a female.’
’If I take them back to Crown Territory and crossbreed them with my Suffolk Sheep, I might be able to create a whole new breed.’
Feng Shan took out his checkbook and gave it a little wave.
"Hey, man. You take a check?"
"Of course." A delighted smile immediately spread across Blaze’s face.
Seeing how quickly Feng Shan agreed, he inwardly kicked himself. ’I should have quoted 5 US Dollars a pound. He probably would have bought them anyway.’
The onlooking townsfolk erupted, staring in disbelief.
One actually had the guts to sell at that price.
And the other actually had the guts to buy.
What was the world coming to?
1,000 US Dollars for three wild mountain goats. You could live comfortably in town for a month on that kind of money.
"Hey, man! If I catch some wild mountain goats, will you buy them too?" one of the townsfolk asked greedily, watching Blaze take the check from Feng Shan.
All the other townsfolk pricked up their ears.
’Everyone here is a Hunter. If Blaze can catch wild mountain goats, so can we.’
"Of course. But they have to be alive. I don’t want dead ones."
Feng Shan nodded calmly, giving his reply.
He bought the three wild mountain goats and loaded them into the plane’s cargo hold.
He waited for the plane to be refueled, then left his phone number so they could contact him if they caught any more wild mountain goats.
With all preparations complete, Feng Shan boarded the Carnation again and started up the plane’s various systems.
The engine roared to life and the propeller began to spin rapidly. The Carnation started to taxi slowly down the runway, gathering speed as the airframe stabilized.
In the fading light of sunset, the plane shot down the runway like an arrow.
Then, with a powerful leap, it soared into the twilight-painted sky. It climbed higher and flew farther until it was just a tiny black dot, vanishing from the sight of the Ruby Town residents.
The plane flew steadily, and before long, it entered the Arctic Circle.
As he entered this mysterious and unique region, the inky blackness of the polar night slowly enveloped the plane.
All around was pitch black, as if all light had been devoured, leaving only the lights on the cockpit’s instrument panel flickering faintly in the darkness.
Feng Shan followed the procedures, set the coordinates for Crown Territory in the avionics system, and engaged the cruise control and autopilot functions.
With the systems engaged, the Carnation seemed to gain a mind of its own, beginning its steady flight along the planned route.
The plane flew at a constant speed through the ink-black night sky, the roar of its engine seemingly the only sound in this silent world.
Feng Shan leaned back in his seat, relaxing. He gazed out the window into the endless darkness.
’I didn’t tell Jenny and the others I was coming back.’
’I wonder if they’ll jump for joy when they see me.’
「Three hours later.」
A piercing red light suddenly flashed on the navigation system, its warning signal shattering the quiet atmosphere in the cockpit.
Feng Shan had been resting with his eyes closed, but the alarm jolted him awake. He shot upright in his seat, instantly alert.
He glanced out the window and saw a spectacular yet familiar sight.
Rolling, snow-capped mountains were faintly visible in the darkness, like a giant white dragon lying across the land, exuding a majestic and stark aura.
And nestled among the mountains was a cluster of brilliant lights, shining like a pearl in the dark night and radiating a warm, bright glow.
He had arrived at Crown Territory!
