Chapter 119: Acquisition
“We have no connection with the Ji family. Do you have any further questions, young master?” She withdrew her smile and sat down again.
Ye Qiu still had a smile on his face, looking easy to talk to.
"Did you really buy this restaurant again?" He asked after Ji Meiqing and the others had almost left. Afraid they would be suspicious, he explained briefly, "I didn't mean anything by it. Someone died in this building. I was afraid you would think it was unlucky and then change your mind."
"Whether business is good or bad is indeed somewhat related to those shady practices, but your food is so delicious that no one will not come."
She spoke softly, not noticing Ye Qiu behind her, her eyes lit up as if she had discovered something.
After leaving the room, the two went downstairs and casually called the waiter to show them around.
There is a courtyard in the backyard, and directly opposite it is a kitchen, with a corridor connecting them.
The kitchen was deserted, with only a few cooks and cold stoves. Ji Meiqing watched for a while, and the waiter, seeing this, quickly came over to explain.
"When business here started to slow down, the head chefs couldn't stand it and went elsewhere. Now, only our boss is left to cook."
She looked at Lu Yu, and Lu Yu looked at her.
The two went inside and looked around before coming together.
"Why has it gotten so cold here?" she asked the waiter, biting her fingernails and looking at him with a troubled expression. "Is there... um... any warning signs?"
"Well... once a customer came here to eat, but ended up dying from poisoning. Although the authorities said it was poisoning, they didn't explain it to them, and then business just went on like that..."
"A murder case? That's strange." Ji Meiqing nudged Lu Yu beside her with her elbow, indicating that she knew nothing about it.
"Tell me about this first, what exactly happened?" Lu Yu spoke up. At the same time, Ji Meiqing wandered around the kitchen twice and came back with a plate of fruit. She naturally took a piece of fruit and offered it to Lu Yu, then took one for herself.
"That man came to eat, and we didn't know he would die here. He ordered a few dishes and ate a couple of bites, and we didn't pay any attention. When we came to our senses, the man downstairs was already lying on the ground, black blood flowing from his seven orifices..."
"And what happened afterward?"
Ji Meiqing ate with relish, crunching the apple as she looked at him innocently with her big, bright eyes.
"Later, the government officials came. We paid compensation to that family, and that was the end of it."
"Oh..." She was somewhat disappointed; the rest of the story was unremarkable and didn't inspire any desire to listen further.
She stuffed the remaining fruit into the waiter's hand, wiped the juice off her hands, and then pulled Lu Yu up.
"It's getting late, let's head back."
The waiter stared in disbelief as the two of them left.
She acted as if she hadn't heard anything about it, and only talked to him about the future. There were quite a few people on the road, and Lu Yu listened attentively to her plans.
She pulled out the house deeds and land deeds. The yellowed deeds had freshly written names on them, the ink already seeping in. Although they weren't dry, they were no longer sticky.
"Here, keep it safe." She placed the items in his hands with satisfaction, then stretched and bounced around a couple of times. Passersby glanced at her as she did this.
Lu Yu tucked the pancake into his arms, and when he looked up again, she was already at the roadside stall. She ordered two pancakes, and after they were made, she gave one to Lu Yu.
She kept the other one to take back to her younger brother to try. The temperature had already dropped, and it got even lower as the sky darkened.
Fortunately, the road wasn't far; it only took a few turns to get there.
"I'll go to the school tomorrow and see if they'll accept Tianci. If you're free, could you look after him for me?" She glanced at him slightly before looking away. "Is that alright?"
"Okay, you go and do your own thing. I'll take care of things at home."
"Thank you."
Ji Tianci was overjoyed to see them return and ran out without even washing his hands. Granny Mei hurriedly chased after him.
He ran up to her and stopped, then looked at her excitedly and asked, "You're back!"
"Wash your hands first. Your hands are covered in stuff. Go wash them. I brought you something." Ji Meiqing smiled and nudged his shoulder, then looked helplessly at Granny Mei who was rushing over behind him.
"Sorry, Tianci is still a bit mischievous."
“Kids are all like that. By the way, how’s the school search going?” She stepped forward and took the things from Ji Meiqing’s hands.
"We'll go tomorrow." Lu Yu walked over and answered her, while helping Ji Meiqing back to her room.
"You've had a long day, you should rest for a while."
"Okay." She was a little tired anyway, so she sat down on the soft couch and rubbed her legs. Lu Yu looked at them and asked, "Are your legs sore?"
"Probably." She rubbed her hands and then withdrew them. After Lu Yu said that, she felt aches all over her body.
Lu Yu glanced at it and said, "Wait."
He went out, and no one knew what he was going to do. Ji Meiqing moved to the side and then found a comfortable position to lie down.
She was probably too tired, so she closed her eyes and fell asleep shortly after.
There was no hot water in the kitchen, so he boiled it for a while before he finally had some. He added some cold water and waited until the water was just the right temperature before taking it over.
Back in her room, she had already fallen asleep against the soft couch.
He placed the bowl at her feet and then took off her shoes; everything was very natural.
His tender, white feet still bore scars that hadn't fully healed, a sight that truly pained him. He poured hot water on them before putting them in the water.
After washing her feet in warm water, she slept even more soundly.
After soaking her feet, I massaged them for her, dried her off, and then carried her to the bed.
I covered her with the blanket before leaving the house.
Ji Tianci was feeding the chicks on the ground with Granny Mei. A large group of chicks surrounded his hands, their tiny heads vying to peck at the food.
"Tianci, come here for a moment." He called out from the doorway, and when Tianci turned around and answered, he went to the study.
When he arrived, Ji Tianci took out a string of copper coins from the table and placed them in front of him.
“I don’t know what you like. These coins are just pocket money. That’s all we’ll have each month. It can’t compare to the Ji family’s, but if there’s anything urgent, just let us know.”
Ji Tianci looked at the string of copper coins, but did not immediately go forward to take them. Instead, he looked at Lu Yu, his young face showing confusion for the first time.
