Chapter 19 The Stone Tower Crisis and the Path of Choice
Wanru, Huanmo, and the man in white stood frozen in shock inside the stone tower, startled by the muffled rumbling sound. The sound, like a muffled thunderstorm, echoed continuously in the enclosed space of the stone tower, making everyone uneasy.
Wanru's face turned deathly pale instantly. She gripped Huanmo's arm tightly, her fingers turning white from the force. "What... what's going on? Could it be another monster?" Her voice trembled noticeably, her eyes filled with terror. At this moment, she was filled with fear of the unknown danger, and the glimmer of hope she had just ignited for returning to the modern world seemed to be extinguished by this sudden turn of events.
Huanmo's expression was equally grave. He shielded Wanru behind him, gripping his sword tightly with his other hand. "Don't be afraid, I'm here," he reassured Wanru, while his mind raced, searching for a solution. This stone tower was already mysterious and unpredictable, and they had already encountered many dangers along the way. Now, with this rumbling sound, it was sure to be another severe test.
The man in white frowned, gripping the jade flute tightly in his hand, his eyes scanning the surroundings warily. "The situation is bad. This stone tower seems to have been attacked by something. We need to find a way to get out of here quickly." His voice was low and urgent, clearly aware of the critical situation.
As the roar grew louder, fine cracks began to appear in the walls of the stone tower, and dust began to fall. Wanru watched all this in horror, feeling as if she were in a nightmare from which she could not escape.
"Where do we get out? The main gate seems to be the only exit, but now..." Huanmo stared at the tightly closed gate of the stone tower, a hint of helplessness in his voice. When they came in, the gate was already difficult to open; now, under the impact of this unknown force, it would probably be even more difficult to open.
Just as they were in a state of extreme anxiety, the man in white suddenly pointed to one side of the stone tower. "Look over there, there's a hidden door! Perhaps that's our way out."
Wanru and Huanmo looked in the direction the man in white pointed and indeed found a hidden door behind a bookshelf. The hidden door blended seamlessly with the surrounding stone wall, and it was difficult to spot its existence without careful observation.
"Run!" Huanmo shouted, pulling Wanru towards the hidden door. The man in white followed closely behind, his jade flute always ready, as if it were his last resort in the face of danger.
They ran to the hidden door, and Huanmo pushed it hard, but it wouldn't budge. "Why can't we open it?" Huanmo shouted anxiously, beads of sweat already forming on his forehead.
The man in white stepped forward, carefully examined the hidden door, then took out a small dagger from his pocket, inserted it into the gap of the hidden door, and began to pry it open.
With the white-clad man's efforts, the hidden door finally opened slowly, releasing an old, musty smell. Behind the door was a narrow, dark, and secluded passage, its destination unknown.
"No time to hesitate, let's go in first!" After saying that, the man in white took the lead and walked into the passage. Huanmo pulled Wanru along and followed without hesitation.
The passageway was dark and damp, and they could only grope their way forward by the faint light. Behind them, the rumbling from inside the stone tower continued unabated, growing louder and louder, as if something was relentlessly pursuing them.
"I hope this passage leads to safety," Wanru prayed silently, gripping Huanmo's hand tightly, not daring to let go for a moment. At this moment, Huanmo's hand was her only support in this darkness and fear.
They walked through the passage for a long time, turning countless corners, when suddenly, a glimmer of light appeared ahead.
"There's light! Maybe the exit is just ahead," Huanmo said with delight, quickening her pace.
However, as they approached the light, they discovered it wasn't an exit, but a huge stone chamber. Inside, various strange objects were placed, some emitting an eerie glow, others constantly humming softly, as if they all contained mysterious power.
"Where is this place?" Wanru looked around in surprise, her mind filled with questions.
The man in white also looked around the stone chamber with a solemn expression. "I don't know either, but the things here don't look simple. We need to be careful."
Just as they were preparing to explore the stone chamber further, a tremendous roar suddenly came from the passage behind them. The roar was deafening, like the furious howl of a demon from the depths of hell, which frightened Wanru into screaming and hiding in Huanmo's arms.
"Oh no, that thing is catching up!" Huanmo's expression changed, and he protected Wanru even more tightly.
They stared nervously at the entrance to the passage, where a huge black shadow slowly emerged. As the shadow became clearer, they realized it was a colossal beast, as large as a mountain, covered in black scales, each scale gleaming coldly in the dim light. Its blood-red eyes, filled with ferocity and greed, were fixed on them.
"How...how are we going to deal with this?" Wanru looked at the giant beast in front of her in despair. She knew that with the strength of the three of them, it would be difficult to contend with this giant beast.
Huanmo gripped his sword tightly, his eyes filled with determination. "No matter what, I will not let it hurt you, Wanru."
The man in white raised the jade flute to his lips and began to play softly. The melodious flute music echoed in the stone chamber, seemingly carrying a mysterious power that attempted to influence the giant beast's actions.
However, the behemoth only paused briefly before continuing its charge towards them, moving with the speed of a black lightning bolt.
Seeing this, Huanmo shouted and charged towards the giant beast, raising his sword high and thrusting it fiercely towards the beast's head.
The man in white did not stop playing his flute. As he played, he circled around to the side of the giant beast, trying to find its weakness.
Wanru was extremely anxious. She looked around, trying to find something that could help Huanmo and the man in white. Suddenly, her gaze fell on an object in the corner of the stone chamber. The object looked like a huge crystal ball, with something flowing inside, emitting a soft light.
"Maybe that can help!" Wanru thought to herself, and without thinking, ran towards the crystal ball.
Just as Huanmo was fiercely battling the giant beast, and the man in white was trying to distract it, Wanru ran to the crystal ball. She reached out and gently touched the crystal ball; instantly, a powerful force surged from it, spreading throughout her entire body.
Wanru stared in surprise, feeling as if she had established some kind of connection with the crystal ball, her body filled with a power she had never experienced before.
"I...I think I can control it!" Wanru was overjoyed. She concentrated and tried to use this power to attack the giant beast.
The crystal ball suddenly shone brightly, and a dazzling beam of light shot out from it, heading straight for the giant beast. Struck by the beam, the beast let out a painful roar, its massive body staggering back several steps.
"Well done, Wanru!" Huanmo was delighted to see this and took the opportunity to launch several more attacks on the giant beast.
The man in white quickened the pace of his playing, the flute music becoming more urgent, as if cheering on Wanru's attack.
With the combined efforts of the three of them, the giant beast seemed to be gradually losing ground. Its movements became slower, and the ferocity in its eyes faded considerably.
"Keep attacking, don't let it recover!" Huanmo shouted.
Wanru gritted her teeth, concentrated again, and the crystal ball fired several more beams of light, striking the giant beast in succession. Finally, the beast could no longer withstand the onslaught, letting out a final roar before turning and fleeing deeper into the passage.
"Phew... finally got rid of it." Wanru breathed a sigh of relief, feeling weak from overusing that power.
Huanmo rushed to Wanru's side and asked with concern, "Wanru, are you alright?"
Wanru shook her head. "I'm fine, just a little tired."
The man in white also walked over, looking at Wanru with a hint of approval in his eyes. "I didn't expect you could control the power of this crystal ball; it's been a great help."
Just as they were about to continue exploring the stone chamber in search of an exit, a huge map suddenly appeared on the wall of the chamber. Several bright spots flashed on the map, one of which was particularly bright and seemed to be guiding them in some way.
