Chapter 198 Leave Me Alone
Chapter 198 Leave Me Alone
On the way back, He Qiaoyun felt a heavy burden on her shoulders.
I felt a little nervous and confused, but I had no regrets because I had the orchard and the small supermarket to rely on. Even if I lost money, I wouldn't be left with nothing.
At this moment, she has no family ties, no children or elderly parents to support, and no worries about the future, so she is full of energy.
Being in your fifties is the perfect age to strive and work hard.
She worked late into the night alone on her computer, looking at her packed work schedule, and closed her laptop with satisfaction.
I picked up my phone and saw that it was already 11:30, and then I realized that I hadn't eaten dinner.
At this hour, most restaurants are closed, but fortunately, the late-night food stalls are just starting to open.
She got up and stretched. Her limbs were stiff from sitting for so long, so she decided to go downstairs for a walk and have some "dinner" while she was at it.
This area is all residential, and it's lively even late at night, with stalls selling snacks and rows of food stalls everywhere.
He Qiaoyun randomly picked a small restaurant specializing in congee.
After she sat down, the waiter rushed over and handed her a menu.
"Hello, what would you like to eat?"
The voice sounded familiar, and He Qiaoyun subconsciously looked up and saw Wang Jinghuai standing in front of her wearing a dirty apron.
Wang Jinghuai was somewhat surprised to see her, but he was used to bumping into her from time to time, and even enthusiastically recommended some dishes: "The pork offal porridge is quite good."
He Qiaoyun ignored her and instead looked down at the menu carefully, saying, "One serving of scallop and vegetable congee."
As Wang Jinghuai wrote it down, she asked, "Would you like any other side dishes?"
He Qiaoyun was really hungry and wanted to eat everything she saw. "One serving of roasted chicken, one serving of oyster omelet, one serving of salt and pepper duck head, and one serving of garlic roasted eggplant."
Wang Jinghuai paused, then said, "You ordered so much by yourself, can you finish it all?"
He Qiaoyun smiled faintly, "Mind your own business."
She needs to be well-fed to have the energy to work. She's no longer a pampered wife; she's a strong woman who needs to work hard.
Wang Jinghuai wasn't annoyed by the retort; she just pursed her lips and started gossiping with her, "I heard the old lady fell ill, is that true?"
He Qiaoyun turned her head to look at her and replied indifferently, "I'm a little hungry, I'm not in the mood to gossip with you."
Wang Jinghuai didn't continue the idle chatter. She took the order to the kitchen and handed it to the chef. Then she went back and, while the boss was out delivering food, sat down opposite He Qiaoyun and continued gossiping, "I also heard that it was your second daughter-in-law who pushed it."
He Qiaoyun looked at her and said in a dismissive tone, "Are you very free?"
Wang Jinghuai continued, talking nonsense, "I also can't stand your second daughter-in-law. She's so arrogant, like someone owes her a million dollars. And the old lady, I really don't know how you've managed to get through all these years. I feel like I'm suffocating if I stay with her for even a minute longer. Serves her right, this is what they call 'evil people will be punished by evil people'!"
He Qiaoyun frowned. Even if her second daughter-in-law was not good, it was none of Wang Jinghuai's place to criticize her. Moreover, she did not go around nagging about her daughter-in-law and mother-in-law's hobbies.
Furthermore, she and Wang Jinghuai were once the wife and the mistress, an irreconcilable relationship, not close enough for them to sit down and gossip.
She raised her hand and called out, "Boss."
Just then, the boss returned from delivering food. He hadn't even had a sip of water before rushing over to her table. "What's wrong?"
He Qiaoyun pointed at Wang Jinghuai sitting in front of her and said, "What's wrong with your waitress? She keeps chatting and gossiping with me, which is a bit of a bother."
The boss's smile vanished, and he glared coldly at Wang Jinghuai, saying, "What are you doing instead of working properly!"
Wang Jinghuai's smile froze, and she quickly waved her hand at the shop owner, "No, I..."
She stood up and said, "I know her. She's just joking with you." Then, she winked at He Qiaoyun and said, "Tell the boss that we know each other."
He Qiaoyun didn't give her any face at all, saying, "I don't know her."
Upon hearing this, Wang Jinghuai's smile froze, filled with worry and fear.
Upon hearing this, the boss scolded her, "What are you still standing there for? Hurry up and go urge the customers to finish their food."
Wang Jinghuai seemed to have been granted a pardon, nodding repeatedly, "Okay, I'll go right away."
After saying that, she jogged away.
The boss's expression changed instantly, and he immediately smiled apologetically at He Qiaoyun, "I'm sorry, she's new and doesn't know any better. Please forgive her."
He Qiaoyun said indifferently, "It's alright."
The boss sighed and said, "Then I'll go and urge the kitchen staff to hurry up with you."
He Qiaoyun: "Okay."
After a brief interruption, my ears finally quieted down.
After waiting for about ten minutes, the meal was served, personally brought out by Wang Jinghuai.
Wang Jinghuai looked like she had been scolded by her boss again, her face full of unhappiness. She muttered under her breath, "I was so stupid in the first half of my life. Unlike you, who are smart, rich and have plenty of free time, you still come out to eat late-night snacks. I have to work two jobs a day. I've been working at this late-night snack shop for almost half a month now. If I lose my job, they won't pay me my wages."
He Qiaoyun raised an eyebrow. "So?"
What does it have to do with her? She didn't make things difficult for her for no reason; she was just legitimately trying to secure a quiet dining environment for herself.
Of course, it's undeniable that calling someone "boss" involves some personal grudges, but so what?
Seeing her completely unrepentant expression, Wang Jinghuai was so angry that her face turned red, but she was helpless. After angrily serving her the dishes, she turned around and walked away.
He Qiaoyun was so hungry that she immediately ladled out a bowl of porridge and ate it while panting.
After eating about half a bowl, the remaining side dishes were served.
She picked up her phone, took a picture, uploaded it to her WeChat Moments, and captioned it: "Midnight snack."
Most of my peers were asleep, so there were few likes or comments, but my daughter sent a message: "I want to eat it too."
He Qiaoyun immediately sent her her location and received a reply: "[On duty, eat a few more bites for me.]"
He Qiaoyun chuckled, shook her head, and put down her phone.
When you're starving, you want to eat everything, but when the food arrives, you realize you've probably ordered way too much.
Just as I was worrying, a shadow fell.
Looking up, Liu Biao sat down with a smile, "You can't finish all this, can you?"
He Qiaoyun was somewhat surprised, "What are you doing here...?"
Liu Biao smiled and said, "I was having dinner with friends nearby when I saw your post on WeChat Moments. I felt like you were around, so I came over."
Actually, that's not the case. He wouldn't tell her that after seeing her posts on social media, he searched several nearby streets before finally finding her.
He Qiaoyun: "That's quite a coincidence. Can you still eat it? It won't taste good if you pack it up for the next day."
Liu Biao waved his hand and said, "I was just chatting and drinking tea with my friends and didn't eat much. I'll finish all of yours for you."
As he spoke, he raised his hand and called to the waiter, "Bring a set of bowls and chopsticks."
Wang Jinghuai came over with the bowl and chopsticks, and glanced at Liu Biao again; she remembered Liu Biao.
When she was Xu Hui's mistress, she met Liu Biao a few times. Xu Hui said they were "close friends," but he never made their relationship public in front of this so-called "close friend."
On one occasion, she touched Xu Hui's hand in front of Liu Biao. Xu Hui immediately withdrew his hand and wiped it with disgust, as if to say, "I have a family."
