Chapter 147 Feeling Lost
Chapter 147 Feeling Lost
He Qiaoyun gave a faint "Mmm," and said, "I know."
Hearing her mother's nonchalant attitude, Xu Hemei raised an eyebrow. "Mom, aren't you worried? At this rate, my second brother will probably really get a divorce."
He Qiaoyun remained nonchalant, saying in a very Buddhist manner, "What's there to be anxious about? Everyone has their own destiny. It's all fate. Whether we separate or not is fate."
Xu Hemei couldn't help but gasp, "Mom, you've really changed a lot. You weren't like this before."
He Qiaoyun raised an eyebrow and asked, "Is it getting better or worse?"
Xu Hemei answered without hesitation, "Of course she's gotten better. She's open-minded and has her own opinions. Take Ji Ying's situation, for example. If it were Duan Fei's mother, she would rather suffer herself than let her son stay in the dark. In fact, ninety percent of mothers-in-law would do the same. But you wouldn't. However..."
He Qiaoyun pressed further: "But what?"
Xu Hemei: "But it's hard to say whether Ji Ying thinks the same way about you."
He Qiaoyun remained unconcerned, saying, "Let her think whatever she wants."
Xu Hemei laughed, "Never mind, I'm not going to say anything more, my takeout has arrived."
"Okay, I need to go wash up and go to bed too. When you get off work, go to bed early too, you can't stay up late anymore."
"Okay, I know, goodnight."
He Qiaoyun's stomach wasn't so full anymore, so she got up to tidy up the table and then went back to her room to wash up.
After washing up and coming out of the bathroom, a message popped up on my phone.
Feng Jiashu: [Tomorrow is the Mid-Autumn Festival, what are your plans?]
He Qiaoyun: [I'm going to the city tomorrow to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival with my daughter.]
Feng Jiashu: [The day after tomorrow.]
He Qiaoyun understood what he meant; he wanted to see her, but she hesitated for a long time before replying, "I need to go back to the orchard."
Feng Jiashu: [Okay.]
After the chat ended, He Qiaoyun felt a sense of loss and sighed deeply. Then she started doing the accounts, paying the helpers their wages, and then turned off the computer and went to sleep.
The next day.
She got up early, cleaned the house, cooked a bowl of noodles, and after eating, tidied up the refrigerator that was crammed full.
Declutter – get rid of things that have been there for too long or have expired.
She was busy until 10 o'clock before she picked up her laptop and left the house.
After putting the laptop in the car, I couldn't resist taking a picture and sending it to my daughter, saying, "Carrying this laptop makes me feel like an office worker going to the early shift."
She sent the message, but her daughter didn't reply, presumably still sleeping, so she got in her car and drove away.
Back in the city, it was almost noon when she parked her car at a small supermarket.
Today is the Mid-Autumn Festival, and she gave both of her employees the day off; the supermarket doors are closed.
The supermarket wasn't far from her rented apartment, but it was Mid-Autumn Festival today, so the roads were congested and she had to wait for a ride-hailing car. She walked a little further and took a half-hour bus ride back to her apartment.
She entered the room, put down her laptop, and received a message from her daughter: "[Awake, where are we going later?]"
He Qiaoyun replied, "You decide, I'm fine with anything."
Xu Hemei: [Okay, I'll lie down for a bit longer. I just ordered takeout, and it's been unusually slow today.]
He Qiaoyun was too lazy to cook, so she ordered takeout instead.
After lunch, she changed her clothes and lay down on the bed for a half-hour nap.
A half-hour nap leaves her feeling refreshed. After a quick wash, she opens her wardrobe and picks out a dress.
I was driving the delivery van just now, wearing my usual work clothes. Now that I'm going out shopping, I need to dress up nicely.
After putting on her dress and shoes, she combed her hair and suddenly felt like getting her hair done. A perm would look nice, and a new hairstyle could change her mood.
I quickly put on some light makeup, received a message from my daughter, and then grabbed my bag and headed out the door.
The mother and daughter met at 3 p.m.
Xu Hemei was dressed casually, wearing a white thin long-sleeved shirt over suspender pants, with her slender long hair draped over her shoulders, light makeup on her face, and a baseball cap on her head. She looked as youthful and beautiful as a college student, not like a poor working person.
She looked He Qiaoyun up and down. "Mom, your makeup looks really good today."
He Qiaoyun smiled and patted her on the shoulder, "You're beautiful too."
Xu Hemei tossed her long hair and said without any hesitation, "Of course."
He Qiaoyun said, "I want to get my hair done."
This was a perfect match for Xu Hemei. "Let's go! I also want to take care of my hair. I've been too lazy lately, and it's gotten rough."
So the two of them stayed in the barbershop for more than two hours.
Xu Hemei got a hair treatment, while He Qiaoyun got a perm, which, combined with her dress, made her look even more gentle and elegant.
"It looks beautiful," Xu Hemei praised without reservation.
The hairstylist chimed in, "When you two stand together, you don't look like mother and daughter at all; you look more like sisters!"
The two smiled, paid, and were about to leave when the distribution director pulled them aside for what felt like their nth attempt to sell them membership cards that day.
Xu Hemei and He Qiaoyun repeatedly refused, saying, "No need, we don't come here often."
These days, hair salon membership cards are ridiculously expensive, and the staff are so busy that they only get their hair cut a few times a year. I bet the hair salon will go out of business before they even use up all the money on their cards. It's better to save the money for a few nice meals than to waste it like that.
After a long struggle, the two successfully escaped from the barbershop.
It was getting late, so we found a restaurant for dinner.
During the Mid-Autumn Festival, which coincides with mealtimes, long queues formed at restaurants in the evening.
Many people's views have changed. They think that cooking a big meal at home is troublesome, and dining at a restaurant during holidays is a good choice, as it is convenient and worry-free.
Of course, there are also many young people who can't go home for the holidays, so they will meet up in twos and threes at a restaurant to eat together, and that's how they celebrate the holidays.
The two waited outside for almost half an hour before they were able to get a seat.
Since there were only two of them, they were seated in the restaurant's main hall. The restaurant had a nice ambiance with warm lighting, and a moon lamp was placed on the table to match the Mid-Autumn Festival.
The two sat down, and the waiter handed them a menu. "Please order, gentlemen."
He Qiaoyun picked up the menu and was about to order when she looked up and saw someone at the next table waving at her.
It was Chen Jingzhou. Sitting next to him was a couple who were about the same age as her; they must have been his parents.
She smiled and greeted him, "What a coincidence, I didn't expect to run into you here."
They looked like they had just come in and were ordering food.
Xu Hemei was puzzled and followed He Qiaoyun's gaze, subconsciously meeting Chen Jingzhou's eyes.
She quickly looked away and asked, "Mom, who are they?"
He Qiaoyun said, "His name is Chen Jingzhou. He bought my lychee gift box before and even introduced me to sales channels."
Xu Hemei silently recited his name in her heart, raised her eyebrows, and whispered, "The name is quite nice."
He Qiaoyun smiled but remained silent.
Meanwhile, on Chen Jingzhou's side...
Seeing that he kept staring at Xu Hemei, Chen's parents couldn't help but laugh and tease him, "That little girl in the hat is so cute, do you like her?"
Chen Jingzhou quickly looked away, his face slightly flushed. "What are you talking about? The older one is He Qiaoyun. I've ordered fruit from her before. The younger one must be her daughter."
Chen's mother said with a smile, "Anyway, it's no fun for the three of us to eat by ourselves. Why don't you invite them over? It's a holiday, the more the merrier."
