Chapter 270 You are here

Jiang Yichen's voice came from beside me, interrupting my thoughts: "What are you thinking about?"

I looked up, and he smiled as he handed me his phone, a hint of concern in his eyes: "Little Sweetie reminded me to bring some tonics for Grandma, and even recommended bird's nest. She's always so thoughtful."

Jiang Yichen took the phone, glanced at the conversation on the screen, and smiled slightly: "She is indeed very thoughtful. However, although bird's nest is good, Grandma's appetite hasn't been very good lately, so it might not be suitable for her. We can bring some ginseng or goji berries and add a little when we cook the soup, which is both nourishing and not too greasy."

I nodded, my eyes full of agreement: "You're right, Grandma hasn't been eating much lately, so we need to choose things that are easy to digest. Ginseng and wolfberry soup sounds good. I'll ask Little Sweetie if she has any other recommendations."

She quickly typed on her phone: "Sweetie, how about ginseng and goji berry soup? Grandma hasn't had much of an appetite lately, so bird's nest might not be suitable."

The message was sent out almost instantly, and Little Sweetie replied: "Ginseng and wolfberry soup is great! My mom drank it before and it worked well. But remember not to put too much ginseng, it can cause internal heat. By the way, if Grandma likes sweet soup, you can try white fungus and lotus seed soup, it's both nourishing and light."

Looking at the suggestions on the screen, I felt a surge of emotion.

Sweetie is always like this; she not only cares about my work but also always thinks about her family.

"Okay, I'll do as you say. I'll also prepare a serving of white fungus and lotus seed soup. Thank you, Sweetie."

As I read this message, a warm feeling washed over me. Although the studio was shut down, everyone's fighting spirit was not dampened.

He replied, "Okay, I'll wait for you to get back, and we'll solve the problem together."

I put down my phone, turned to look at Jiang Yichen, and said softly, "Little Sweetie suggested we prepare ginseng and goji berry soup and white fungus and lotus seed soup. What do you think?"

Jiang Yichen nodded: "Very good, Grandma should like it. We'll go shopping first thing tomorrow morning and buy some of her favorite snacks while we're at it."

I smiled, my gaze softening: "Okay, let's do it that way."

"Grandma will be very happy with you by her side."

A warm feeling welled up in my heart.

“Grandma loves you the most,” I said softly. “Every time she sees you, she smiles like a little child.”

Jiang Yichen smiled, his tone slightly teasing: "That's not necessarily true. She's growing to like you more and more. Maybe I'll have to step aside."

I laughed at him and gently nudged him, saying, "Stop joking around, let's hurry up and get ready, so Grandma won't get impatient."

Suddenly, Grandma felt unwell, so Jiang Yichen called an ambulance. After the doctor examined her, he said she was just too tired lately, so Jiang Yichen and I told Grandma to rest at the hospital.

The next day was the day to meet Lin Shu, but the location had changed.

Early in the morning, a black sedan drove smoothly along the highway, the atmosphere inside quiet and warm. Lin Shu had arranged to meet me earlier, but later changed the location to the riverside. Jiang Yichen, worried about me, insisted on going with me. He drove attentively, his hands firmly gripping the steering wheel, his eyes occasionally scanning the road outside, his expression serious and composed. I sat in the passenger seat, watching the scenery rushing past the window, occasionally turning to look at him, my eyes full of trust.

He seemed to notice my gaze, turned his head slightly, and returned a gentle smile.

I said softly, "Thank you for coming with me."

“Your business is my business. Besides, I feel something is off about Lin Shu suddenly changing her address. Don’t worry, I’m here.”

I nodded, feeling much more at ease. Although Lin Shu was my grandmother's friend, her behavior was indeed somewhat unusual, especially changing her address to such a remote place as the riverside at the last minute, which made me more vigilant.

Just then, my phone vibrated. It was a message from Xu Sisi: "I've arrived at the riverbank and am looking for a suitable spot to wait."

I quickly replied, "Okay, be careful, and stay in touch."

Xu Sisi replied almost instantly: "Don't worry, Sister Mo, I'll keep an eye on things."

I put down my phone, turned to look at Jiang Yichen, and said softly, "Sisi has arrived and is waiting nearby."

He nodded, his gaze still fixed intently ahead: "With her here, I feel a bit more at ease. However, we still need to be careful when we see Lin Shu later."

I replied softly, "I know. Although Lin Shu is Grandma's friend, her behavior this time is indeed a bit strange. I'll keep an eye on her."

He turned his head and glanced at me, a hint of approval in his eyes: "You're always calm, I believe you can handle this. However, if anything goes wrong, be sure to tell me immediately."

I smiled and said, "Okay, I will."

The car returned to silence, with only the low rumble of the engine and the occasional sound of wind from outside the window.

I leaned back in my seat, my gaze fixed on the distant horizon, a vague unease settling in my heart. What exactly was Lin Shu planning? Why had she suddenly changed her address to the riverside? These questions swirled in my mind, but I couldn't find the answers.

Just then, Jiang Yichen's phone rang. He glanced at the screen, his brows furrowing slightly, before answering the call: "Hello, it's me... What? Are you sure? Okay, I understand."

He hung up the phone, his expression turning serious.

I couldn't help but ask, "What's wrong?"

He held me close and said in a low voice, "We just received news that Lin Shu has been in frequent contact with several unidentified people recently, and their backgrounds are somewhat complicated. We need to be more careful."

"It seems this meeting won't be so simple. But now that we're here, we can't back down."

He said in a doting tone, "Yes, honey, you're getting more and more amazing."

Looking at him, a surge of strength welled up within me. No matter what challenges lay ahead, as long as he was by my side, I would have no fear.

The car slowly drove into the riverside parking lot. In the distance, there was a wide view of the river, with the afterglow of the setting sun shining on the water, making it sparkle. I opened the car door, and Jiang Yichen followed closely behind, standing beside me, his eyes scanning the surroundings warily.

“Let’s go,” he said softly.

We walked forward side by side. The river breeze brushed against my cheeks, carrying a slight chill, but my palms remained warm because of his presence.

We walked slowly along the path by the river, Jiang Yichen holding my hand tightly the whole time, as if afraid I would suddenly disappear. His palm was warm and strong, giving me an immense sense of security. I couldn't help but look up at him, and found that his gaze was constantly scanning our surroundings warily, his expression focused and serious.

"Are you nervous?" I asked softly.

He glanced down at me, a slight smile playing on his lips: "With you here, I'm not nervous."
