Chapter 242 I was deceived
Chapter 242 I was deceived
The middle-aged man hunched over slightly, sighed helplessly, shook his head, and looked exhausted and regretful.
"Sigh, I originally thought I'd save some money for my son by signing him up for this cheap tour, but who knew he'd suffer so much now, and I might even have to pay more."
The uncle's voice was deep and hoarse.
The middle-aged woman next to him had slightly reddened eyes, her gaze filled with helplessness. She reached out her calloused hand and gently tugged at the man's sleeve, her voice trembling with emotion.
"I should have listened to my son and not signed up for this kind of tour."
The woman's words were full of regret, as if she were blaming herself for her decision that had led the two of them into this predicament.
The two remained silent for a moment.
"Uncle and aunt, to be honest, I came here specifically to expose the shady practices of fake travel agencies that force customers to buy things. I'd like to ask if you could leave your contact information, because I might need your help as witnesses when I expose them in the future."
I pointed to my phone, hoping to get their support.
“Girl, you’re so kind-hearted, we definitely have to help you! This travel agency is bullying us too much. We’ll definitely testify. But since you’re so young, you have to be careful.”
"Yes, in today's society, I'm sure this isn't the first or second time this tour guide has done this. I bet a lot of people have been fooled like this."
The uncle, seeing that I was a young girl, was just as worried about me as the aunt.
Hearing the aunt's excited voice, I quickly signaled to them to look at my phone.
Just then, a pair of warm hands took my hand. Although they were calloused, they felt incredibly reassuring.
"Since the young lady has said so, what can we do? We might as well take a gamble."
The older man nodded vigorously beside him.
I quickly pulled out my phone, swiped my fingers lightly across the screen, and exchanged contact information with the two of them.
After finally finishing the meal, the tour guide, looking impatient, waved his hand dismissively and raised his voice to call out to everyone.
I stood at the dimly lit stairwell. The tour guide tossed his rusty keychain onto the wooden cabinet, the clanging of metal startling a cockroach that scurried across the corner.
"It's all 20 Jiang Yichen counts to the west, one room per person!" He yelled in a hoarse voice, soaked in cigarette smoke and alcohol, the fat on the back of his neck trembling with each shout.
The musty smell was like a wet hand covering my mouth and nose. When I pushed open the door to Jiang Yichen's room, the dusty hinges groaned as if they were dying.
"Is this a place for people to live in?" came a curse from his companion behind him.
He kicked the rickety bedside table, and cobwebs fluttered down from the lampshade. I reached out and wiped the windowsill, my fingertips immediately getting sticky grease; the cheap wood-grain paper that had been pasted there twenty years ago was peeling off, its edges curled like withered tree bark.
The sound of doors slamming echoed down the hallway. Someone pinched their nose and shouted where the toilet was, but no one answered.
The tour guide's leather shoes approached from afar, then abruptly stopped outside the door. "Stay or don't stay, take it or leave it!"
The soundproofing here is terrible; I can hear everything from the next room. I quickly found my room; all I want to do now is rest.
I slowly sat down in the small room, my body sinking into the somewhat worn-out mattress, a sense of helplessness welling up inside me.
I wonder how the live stream is going, I have to check it out!
She gently tidied her slightly messy hair in front of the camera, talking as she did so.
"Family, today's trip was terrible, but don't worry, I'll continue the live stream tomorrow and see what other tricks this travel agency has up its sleeve."
[Keep it up, streamer! Stay safe!]
[m, lock the doors and windows.] Momo
As I read, I looked at the fans' comments and interacted with them for a few moments. Then I reached out and clicked the button to end the live stream. I put my phone on the table next to me, leaned back in my chair, and sighed softly.
It's so late already, I wonder how Jiang Yichen is doing. I'm scrolling through my phone, there are so many missed calls!
I didn't answer any of the calls because my phone was on silent.
I quickly called back, and the call was answered soon. Jiang Yichen's familiar and gentle voice came through the receiver.
"Baby, where are you?" The male protagonist's voice was filled with concern and doubt.
"Hello?" I blurted out, but then stopped myself from speaking.
The electrical current carried the rustling sound of fabric rubbing together, as if someone had turned over and pressed the receiver against their cheek.
I subconsciously bit my lip again. "I'm at home." My voice sounded a little unnatural, and I felt a little uneasy, wondering if he could tell.
"Why are you lying? I just called Grandma, and she said you weren't home." She raised her voice in disbelief, her tone tinged with annoyance.
"Oh dear, I'm at my parents' house. I didn't tell you because I didn't want you to worry."
"Really?"
"Really? Jiang Yichen, how are you doing over there? My phone was on silent today, so I didn't hear it."
Feeling guilty, my mind went completely blank.
"It's nothing! Everything's the same as usual. It's you who's always giving me a headache." Her tone softened.
The male protagonist smiled gently, his voice filled with affection, as if you could feel his smile through the phone.
"I'm not tired. I'll be back soon, and I've prepared a surprise for you."
Sometimes Jiang Yichen's voice would get weaker and weaker, and I would have to keep my phone by the window the whole time, otherwise I would be in big trouble if I was discovered.
"What surprise?"
"You'll know then."
I asked Jiang Yichen, but he wouldn't say anything. However, I felt much better since he hadn't suspected me yet. I told Jiang Yichen to get some rest and then hung up the phone.
I got up to take a shower, and when I turned on the tap, I thought it would be hot water, but after waiting for ages, it was still cold. No hot water? Is this the case throughout the whole hotel?
The travel group was flooded with messages, everyone was tagging the tour guide, but the guide didn't respond.
[I went to the hotel reception and asked, but it was no use; they completely ignored us.]
[That's right, there's no hot water either.]
Let's find a tour guide tomorrow.
Nobody had it before, and complaints were pouring in the group. Everyone was very agitated. I couldn't let everyone know, so I just quietly took a screenshot.
Looking at the environment here, I'll just have to make do for now. After all, this place is really bad, and the things here probably haven't been cleaned much.
I slowly climbed into bed, pulled the covers over myself, closed my eyes, and prepared to sleep, praying that things would turn around for the better tomorrow.
In a daze, just before dawn, I heard a noisy commotion outside.
"Who?"
I called out, but there was no answer from outside.
"Who is it? They're still not up. Wait a minute, I—"
Before I could finish speaking, I heard the door being pounded on loudly. The sound was particularly jarring in the quiet morning, and I had a vague feeling that something was going to happen.
As I imagined what would happen next, I shuddered, my eyes filled with terror, and my heart began to pound wildly…
