Chapter 506 A critical moment
Chapter 506 A critical moment
Yu Wan's heart suddenly raced, and her fingertips felt slightly cold.
Xi Zhu's palms were already sweating, but she still stood firmly in front of her.
“Something’s not right…” Yu Wan murmured softly, “If the secret guards were here, they shouldn’t be this quiet.”
Almost as soon as he finished speaking, the roof of the car was suddenly cleaved open by a sharp blade!
Yu Wan reacted quickly, pulling Xi Zhu to a corner of the carriage.
A dark shadow descended from the sky, its cold light aimed straight for Yu Wan's throat!
At this critical moment, Yu Wan quickly pulled out the hairpin from her hair and used it to block the opponent's sword, while simultaneously kicking the opponent's knee.
The man in black seemed not to have expected that such a delicate woman would fight back in such a dangerous situation. He was momentarily careless and actually staggered back a few steps.
Xizhu also reacted and, like a newborn calf, charged straight at the man in black who had not yet regained his footing!
This series of actions happened in an instant. Before the man in black could even stand up, he was hit hard and fell straight off the carriage.
Before the master and servant could even breathe a sigh of relief, they saw through the crack in the carriage window that two more men in black had appeared on either side of the carriage.
Yu Wan lowered her gaze and saw the coachman lying in a pool of blood, but there was no sign of any guards around.
Her heart sank.
Either the bodyguards were lured away by other men in black, or they were silently eliminated... Either way, it proves that the person behind this was well prepared.
Did they want to kill her, or kidnap her to threaten someone?
Yu Wan's mind raced as she considered a solution, her fingers gripping the silver hairpin so tightly that her knuckles turned white.
Xizhu's face was deathly pale, but she still stood firmly in front of her, her voice trembling but resolute: "Master, this servant will protect you and rush out!"
However, before they could make a move, the men in black on both sides of the carriage attacked simultaneously—
"Shh!"
Two flashes of cold light appeared, the carriage curtain was cut off by a sharp blade, and a cold wind rushed into the carriage.
Yu Wan suddenly pushed Xi Zhu aside, and then dodged the short sword that was thrust at her.
"Xizhu, hold on tight!"
She gave a low shout and, taking advantage of the moment when the man in black sheathed his sword, grabbed the teapot from the carriage and smashed it hard into one of the men's faces!
With a "bang!", scalding hot tea was splashed all over the man's face. The man in black groaned and froze.
Yu Wan seized the opportunity, rushed out of the carriage, grabbed the reins, and yanked them forcefully—
"drive!"
The horse, in pain, neighed and suddenly reared up and galloped away!
The carriage jolted violently, and the two men in black were caught off guard and thrown off the carriage.
The horses ran very fast and quickly widened the distance between them.
Under extreme tension, Yu Wan was panting heavily.
Fortunately, the men in black didn't kill the horse as well.
Thanks to her previous horseback riding experience, this skill truly came in handy.
Xizhu clung tightly to the car window, shouting, "Master! Where are we going?"
"Run towards the city gate. Once we're out of this forest, they won't be able to make a move."
The reason these men in black chose to make their move here is because the official road is flanked by dense forests, which would provide cover. However, they would be relatively safe once they escaped the forest.
Xizhu was about to breathe a sigh of relief when she suddenly heard the sound of horses' hooves behind her.
She turned her head and saw that her face had turned deathly pale.
"Master! Those men in black are catching up on horseback!"
The carriage was slower than the horses, and Xizhu could see that the distance between the two was getting closer and closer, but they were still some distance away from leaving the dense forest.
Xizhu was so anxious that tears streamed down her face. "Master, you should abandon the carriage and ride away on horseback! I'll stay here and hold these people off!"
How could Yu Wan let Xizhu be her scapegoat? She scolded sharply, "Stupid girl, do you think your mistress is that kind of person?"
"Hold on tight, don't be afraid, we'll be fine."
Yu Wan spoke with great conviction, but deep down she wasn't really sure.
But she couldn't abandon Xizhu and let her die in her place.
Yu Wan gripped the reins tightly and pounded the horse's belly with all her might.
"drive--!"
The horses, in pain, neighed and galloped faster, the wheels crushing the gravel, causing the entire carriage to shake violently.
Xizhu gripped the car window tightly, her knuckles turning white.
The sound of horses' hooves behind her grew closer and closer, and Yu Wan could even hear the clanging of the black-clad men drawing their swords.
A flash of cold light suddenly grazed past Yu Wan's ear, shaving off a lock of her long hair. Just half an inch away, the tip of the sword would have sliced across her neck.
"Master, be careful!" Xizhu's pupils trembled violently as she shouted hoarsely.
Yu Wan had no time to be afraid. She gritted her teeth, pulled the reins sharply, and the carriage swerved, barely dodging the second sword swung by the man in black.
But as it turned, the wheels got stuck in a ditch by the roadside, and the car tilted sharply—
"what!"
Xizhu screamed in surprise, almost being thrown out of the carriage.
Yu Wan reacted quickly and grabbed her wrist.
The carriage crashed to the ground. Yu Wan grabbed Xi Zhu and rolled into a corner of the carriage. The soft cushion underneath cushioned most of the impact, preventing her from passing out immediately.
Xizhu's face drained of all color. "The carriage is gone... Master, we can't escape..."
The sound of the black-clad man's hooves was already close at hand, and Yu Wan looked up to see the other man's long sword raised high.
With a single swing of the sword, Yu Wan could even feel the cold glint of the blade slicing across her neck!
Yu Wan watched helplessly as the long sword fell, her body stiff as she held Xi Zhu.
It turns out that when you are truly facing death, all emotions disappear.
At this critical moment between life and death—
A streak of silver light suddenly appeared out of nowhere, accurately knocking the longsword out of the man in black's hand!
With a loud clang, the man in black was jolted so hard that his hand ached, and the long sword fell to the ground.
Yu Wan's unfocused eyes suddenly trembled. She came to her senses, hugged Xi Zhu, and rolled to the side, away from the man in black.
"Shhhhh-"
Suddenly, a dense rain of arrows rang in her ears. Yu Wan looked up and saw several arrows shooting towards the men in black.
Before she could even react to who had saved her, Yu Wan was already lifted up by an arm.
He pulled her into a tight embrace, as if she were holding a lost treasure that he had found again, with such force that she could hardly breathe.
The familiar cool fragrance lingered around her nose, and Yu Wan's eyes welled up with tears. When she looked up, she met Yun Shang's deep, dark eyes.
"."
She opened her mouth, only to find that she was too afraid to make a sound.
Yun Shang suddenly raised his hand to cover her eyes, his cool voice carrying a soothing tone, "Don't be afraid, close your eyes, it will be over soon."
He looked up at the black-clad men who were wielding swords to deflect arrows.
Yu Wan's eyes were covered, so she didn't see that the man's jaw was taut and his eyes were filled with a terrifying ferocity, like a demon crawling out of hell.
As Xizhu was being helped up by the guards, she caught a glimpse of it out of the corner of her eye and trembled violently in fright.
"Kill them all." Yun Shang didn't pay attention to Xi Zhu. He spoke, his voice as cold as ice: "Leave no one alive."
