Chapter 688 Old Master Duan's Accident
The morning light filtered through the sheer curtains, casting dappled shadows on the solid wood dining table in the restaurant, adding a touch of tranquility and warmth to this simple home-cooked breakfast.
Li Yan was dressed in a simple home outfit, her hair casually tied up, with a few strands falling around her fair neck, resembling a leisurely morning scene.
A mischievous smile played on her lips as she looked at Gu Tingyan, who was carefully serving food to Jiang Yi, and teased, "Tingyan, you're such a devoted boyfriend these days. I bet Jiang Yi will be so spoiled by you that she won't even be able to walk properly in the future."
Li Yan's voice was clear and crisp, with a hint of affection and teasing.
Gu Tingyan blushed slightly, glanced at her, and pretended to scold her: "Auntie, please stop teasing me."
"Isn't it only right that I take care of my girlfriend?"
Jiang Yi covered her mouth and chuckled, her cheeks flushed. She playfully nudged Gu Tingyan and said coquettishly, "You talk too much."
For a moment, laughter filled the dining table, creating a warm and cozy atmosphere.
After finishing her meal, Li Yan winked knowingly, stood up, and patted Jiang Yi on the shoulder: "You two keep snuggling together, I'm going to find Yu Jing."
Having said that, she stepped out the door with light, quick steps, her skirt swaying gently.
The sunlight was just right in the courtyard, and the green plants rustled in the breeze, as if they were singing softly.
When Li Yan arrived at the Duan family's residence, she saw Old Master Duan pacing ahead, his expression somewhat grave.
Just as I was about to greet him, I saw Old Master Duan suddenly sway, clutch his chest, and his face instantly turn ashen. Large beads of sweat rolled down his forehead, splashing onto the stone pavement and soaking it.
"dad!"
Li Yan gasped in surprise, her heart leaping into her throat as if gripped tightly by an invisible hand. She rushed forward and supported the swaying old man, Duan.
She cried out in a panic, "Someone come quick! Dad's not feeling well!"
A moment later, the servants rushed over, and everyone hurriedly helped Old Master Duan into the car.
Li Yan followed closely behind, holding the old man's hand tightly.
But her own hands trembled slightly.
Li Yan had never seen the old man so vulnerable. Her eyes reddened, and she murmured, "Dad, hang in there."
Her voice was trembling with tears, almost choked with sobs.
The hospital corridor smelled strongly of disinfectant, and the bright white lights made people dizzy.
Li Yan anxiously accompanied the old man through various examinations, registering, paying fees, and collecting forms, shuttling between different departments, her high heels clicking on the ground in a hurried and flustered manner.
Before each test result was available, her heart was in her throat, she was restless and anxious, and she would often stand on tiptoe to look at the door of the examination room, her hands unconsciously twisting together until her knuckles turned white.
In the meantime, she hurriedly took out her phone and dialed Duan Yujing's number, her voice trembling with anxiety: "Yujing, come to the hospital quickly, Dad has had a relapse, high blood pressure, his condition is not good..."
Before she could finish speaking, tears welled up in her eyes and streamed down her face, landing on her phone screen.
On the other end of the phone, Duan Yujing seemed to be struck by lightning. His voice rose instantly, filled with panic and urgency: "I'm coming right away, Xiaoyan, take good care of Dad!"
After saying that, she hung up the phone. Li Yan listened to the busy tone, took a deep breath, tried to calm herself down, turned around and went back into the waiting area of the examination room. She sat down in a chair and stared intently at the closed examination room door.
Before long, Duan Yujing arrived at lightning speed, his figure accompanied by the cold wind outside, his hair disheveled.
His forehead was covered in sweat, and his eyes were filled with anxiety and worry.
He rushed into the waiting area and grabbed Li Yan, asking, "How is Dad?"
Li Yan quickly stood up, took his hand, and comforted him, "He's still being examined, don't worry too much."
But her slightly trembling hands betrayed her unease.
