Chapter 227 As long as I am here, there is a future
A familiar voice suddenly rang out behind her, and Yunxia froze, her fingers gripping the medical form so tightly they almost dug into the paper.
She turned around abruptly and saw Zhou Chiye standing not far away, his baseball cap pulled low, but he couldn't hide the surprise in his eyes.
Zhou Chiye strode over, his gaze first falling on her pale face, then down to her hand covering her lower abdomen, and finally sweeping over the crumpled medical form in her hand.
His Adam's apple bobbed, and his voice tightened: "Why are you here?"
Yunxia suddenly hid the medical report behind her back, stood up and tried to leave, but he grabbed her wrist.
His fingertips were icy cold, but he dared not use too much force, and asked in a hoarse voice, "Is it what I think? Yunxia, tell me."
She turned her face away, her eyes burning, her voice stiff: "It has nothing to do with you."
Zhou Chiye grabbed her wrist and pulled her into the corner at the end of the corridor. There were few people there, only the smell of disinfectant carried by the wind.
Zhou Chiye's gaze was fixed on her hands hidden behind her back, his voice trembling slightly: "You're pregnant, aren't you?"
Yunxia shuddered, her nails digging into her palms, but she didn't respond.
He took a half-step forward, his eyes bloodshot with panic, and his voice trembled: "You're here... to get rid of him?"
Seeing that she was keeping her eyes down and not speaking, he tightened his grip on her wrist, but then, afraid of hurting her, he loosened his grip slightly: "Yunxia, this is my child, isn't it? How could you not tell me?"
"It's over!" Yunxia suddenly looked up, her eyes red-rimmed. "This child has nothing to do with you; it's my own business!"
"How can it be unrelated?" Zhou Chiye's voice suddenly rose, then quickly fell back down, leaving only a hoarse tone: "He is my child, Zhou Chiye's child. You wanted to abort it, did you ask me?"
He raised his hand, his palm gently hovering above her lower abdomen, but dared not touch her: "What are you afraid of? Are you afraid I won't take responsibility, or do you think... I'll leave you to bear it all alone?"
Yunxia turned her face away, tears finally spilling onto the back of his hand: "We never had a future together. Keeping him around will only cause trouble."
Zhou Chiye's fingertips trembled, and he suddenly pulled her into his arms, his strength so light it was as if he were afraid of breaking her: "With me here, there is a future."
She gripped his clothes tightly and tried to push him away, but Zhou Chiye's arms were like iron hoops, holding her waist and refusing to let go. She struggled so hard that her breath came out in a sob, and she punched his back, but the force became weaker and weaker.
She buried herself in his arms, tears streaming down her face, but the grip on his clothes slowly loosened.
"Yunxia, see you in consultation room number 2, get ready for your appointment."
The mechanical announcement echoed in the corridor. Yunxia froze, her movement of burying herself in Zhou Chiye's arms halted, tears still clinging to her eyelashes.
Zhou Chiye tightened his grip on her arm instantly, gently patting her back with his palm, his voice hoarse and trembling: "Don't go, Yunxia."
The broadcast was still ringing in her ears, but Yunxia's body was as stiff as ice. Zhou Chiye held her, gently rubbing her back with his palm: "Don't go, okay?"
She didn't move, but her tears soaked his T-shirt. Zhou Chiye lowered his head, his nose brushing against the top of her head, and said in a very soft voice, "I know you're scared, scared that we won't last, scared that it's just a passing fancy for me, but I turned down work and blocked this spot. I'm not kidding."
He raised his hand, his fingertips gently touching the corner of her reddened eyes, then moved down, carefully placing his hand on her lower abdomen, the warmth of his palm seeping through the fabric: "This is our child, Yunxia. Give me a chance and give him a chance too. I won't let you suffer."
Yunxia's fingertips clenched Zhou Chiye's back until they turned white. She could feel the warmth of his palm on her lower abdomen, as warm as a soft fire, slowly melting the ice in her heart.
She looked up and met Zhou Chiye's eyes. There was no joking in them, only seriousness wrapped in red blood vessels, and even his breathing was trembling with nervousness.
"I..." She opened her mouth, but the words caught in her throat, and her throat felt dry.
Seeing that she was softening, Zhou Chiye's Adam's apple bobbed even more rapidly. He gently rubbed her lower abdomen with his palm, his voice hoarse and solemn: "I promise, I won't let you bear it alone from now on. I'll go with you to prenatal checkups, I'll buy you whatever you want to eat, I'll stay by your side when you want to rest, and I'll take care of all the gossip."
"Or I can leave the entertainment industry. I have money, and I can go anywhere you want to go and live the life you want to live. If you want to work, I will support you. As long as you and the child are doing well, nothing else matters."
Yunxia stared at him, listening to him so easily say "leave the entertainment industry," and tears welled up again. She gripped the hem of his clothes, slowly curling into a fist, but she didn't push him away again.
Yunxia sniffed, tears still clinging to her face, her voice trembling with lingering emotion: "I...I'm not ready yet."
She raised her hand and pushed him away half an inch, her gaze falling on his bloodshot eyes. Her tone softened but remained clear: "You can keep the child for now, but don't force me to agree now."
"I don't want to hand over my future in a muddle, and I'm afraid it's just a momentary impulse on your part." She gently brushed her fingertips across her lower abdomen, her voice as soft as a sigh: "Give me some time, let me calm down."
Zhou Chiye stared at the reddened corners of her eyes, carefully holding her arm, his voice extremely gentle: "Okay, I'll wait for you. I'll wait as long as you want, and I'll never rush you."
He raised his hand and gently wiped away her tears with his fingertips, his movements as delicate as if he were protecting a rare treasure: "Then let's go home first, okay? It's too cold here, it's not good for you and the baby."
Yunxia's expression was complicated, but she finally nodded.
After returning home.
When he opened the door, the strawberries scattered in front of the door were still there. Zhou Chiye bent down to pick them up, avoiding the crushed ones with his fingertips, and only put the intact ones into the fruit plate.
Yunxia watched his movements without saying anything, changed her shoes, and walked towards the sofa.
Zhou Chiye arranged the strawberries, turned to look at Yunxia curled up on the sofa, his gaze falling on her still pale face, and said in a very soft voice: "Are you hungry? You don't seem to have eaten anything since this morning."
"Then should I order takeout?" Zhou Chiye took out his phone, but paused just as his fingertips touched the screen. "Or I can go out and buy it. The porridge shop you used to like should still be open."
Yunxia raised her eyes, her fingertips unconsciously rubbing against the sofa armrest, and said in a nonchalant tone, "Whatever."
Upon hearing "whatever," Zhou Chiye put down his phone. Realizing that this would take too much time, he looked towards the kitchen and said, "Then I'll make it for you myself."
Yunxia was stunned for a moment, then looked up at Zhou Chiye. When did he learn to cook?
Zhou Chiye went into the kitchen on his own, opened the refrigerator, and found half a head of broccoli, a few eggs, and a steak. Zhou Chiye paused, about to take out his phone to search for a recipe.
His gaze, however, fell on the back of the refrigerator, where several unopened bottles of beer sat.
He frowned, reached out and took all the wine out, placing it on the kitchen floor.
I can't drink alcohol while pregnant, so I threw it all away.
