Chapter 7 Long-Awaited Joy
Chapter 7 Long-Awaited Joy
After getting off the bus, Zhao Yuan carried a piece of meat in his left hand and a piglet in his right, hurrying home.
"Zhaoyuan, let's come over for drinks tonight, remember to cook for us."
Li Dawen ran into Zhaoyuan on the road. Seeing such a large piece of meat, with just the right amount of fat and lean, he happily ran up and patted Zhaoyuan on the shoulder.
"Not today, Fangfang just gave birth, this is for her to eat."
Zhao Yuan looked at Li Dawen with a serious expression and said.
He walked and talked without paying attention to the villagers.
Li Dawen stood there stunned for a long time, unable to come to his senses.
Yesterday, Zhao San told himself that Zhao Yuan was acting strangely, like a different person, but he didn't believe it.
Now he's starting to wonder if this is still the Zhaoyuan they know? How could he have changed so much overnight?
As Zhao Yuan walked, he pondered his own problems. These people had nothing to do with him, and he didn't need to maintain any relationships with them.
Zhao Yuan quickly returned home.
"Fangfang, look what I bought back."
Zhao Yuan waved the meat and piglet in his hand toward Lin Fangfang.
Lin Fangfang was sitting in the main room breastfeeding. She looked up at Zhaoyuan but dared not speak.
"I put the piglet in that empty pigpen first."
"Remember to put more straw in the pigpen, the weather is cold now, and I'm afraid the piglets will freeze."
Lin Fangfang still gave one more piece of advice.
"Okay, got it."
Zhao Yuan agreed as he walked towards the pigpen. He first put the piglet in the pen, and the piglet ran around happily in the pen. When the big pig next door saw the piglet move in, it quickly got up and ran to the pigpen next door, but was blocked by the pigpen. The two pigs touched noses with each other through the pigpen pillar.
Zhao Yuan walked to the haystack, pulled up a bundle of straw, went into the pigpen, and placed the straw on a higher spot.
Zhao Yuan returned home, went into the kitchen, and began to get busy.
Zhao Yuan divided a piece of meat in half, putting one half in a bowl to save for tomorrow.
I quickly chopped the meat and put it in a bowl. All I had at home was dried chili powder and a jar of chopped chili.
Zhao Yuan opened the door and walked into the vegetable garden in the backyard. The garden was quite large and had many kinds of vegetables, including scallions, ginger, garlic, white radishes, carrots, Chinese cabbage, and cabbage—all the vegetables that were in season.
Just by looking at this vegetable garden, you can tell that the lady of the house is a capable woman.
Zhao Yuan pulled up a few scallions and garlic, tore off a few carrots, and plucked a cabbage.
Zhao Yuan returned home and skillfully washed the vegetables.
"Dad, Mom, we're back."
Zhao Zhaodi and Zhao Laidi came home from school.
After putting down her schoolbag, Zhao Laidi went to herd cattle.
Zhao Zhaodi quickly went to the kitchen to wash the rice and cook it.
Zhao Yuan went to the kitchen.
"Zhaodi, you start the fire, I'll cook the dishes."
Zhao Zhaodi glanced at Zhao Yuan cautiously, then obediently sat down at the hearth and started a fire.
Zhao Yuan first put the fatty meat into the pot and fried it to render some oil, instantly filling the whole house with a fragrant aroma.
The meat in this era is truly delicious. Zhao Yuan couldn't help but drool, especially since he hadn't eaten much since yesterday and was really hungry.
Zhao Yuan scooped out some oil from a bowl, then added lean meat and stir-fried it quickly. Finally, he added carrots and garlic and continued to stir-fry, added salt, and simmered it for a while with water.
Zhao Yuan tasted the soup; it was just right.
Zhao Yuan scooped the vegetables out of the pot.
After washing the pot, Zhaoyuan added the oil from frying the fatty pork into the pot, along with some shredded ginger, quickly added the shredded cabbage, salt, and stir-fried it quickly. He scooped out a small bowl of the oil, then added chili powder, stir-fried it quickly, and served it.
"Zhaodi, go and call Laidi back for dinner."
"Okay, sure."
Zhao Di had been secretly observing Zhao Yuan. When she heard her name called, she was startled and realized that she had never seen her father cook like this before.
Zhao Zhaodi ran quickly to the field ridge, and soon returned with Zhao Laidi, one after the other, driving the cattle back.
Zhao Yuan had already placed the dishes on the table.
"Fangfang, put the child on the bed and come eat. The meat is served without chili, and there's a small bowl of cabbage without chili."
Lin Fangfang, holding the child, prepared to get up and go to her room.
Zhao Yuan took the child and helped Lin Fangfang sit down at the square table.
The child was already asleep, and Zhaoyuan gently placed the child on the bed.
Zhao Yuan felt very natural doing all of this, without any restraint.
Zhao Yuan felt very strange. After all, she was someone else's wife and child, but she seemed so close to him.
Since yesterday, Zhao Yuan seemed like a different person. After a day, Lin Fangfang saw that Zhao Yuan hadn't changed at all, so she was slightly relieved.
Zhao Zhaodi walked into the kitchen, where Zhao Yuan had already washed all the pots and pans and cleaned the cutting board exceptionally well.
Zhao Zhaodi picked up the bowl and chopsticks and came out.
The family of four sat at the table to eat.
"The meat smells so good. Sis, when did you become such a good cook?"
Zhao Lai Di praised it while eating.
"I didn't do it, Dad did it."
"Ok?"
Zhao Laidi looked up in surprise, glancing at Zhao Yuan with disbelief and a hint of fear in her eyes, before quickly lowering her head to eat.
"You don't know, do you? Dad is a master chef. From now on, Dad will cook more dishes for you. Study hard and help Mom and your sister more."
As he spoke, Zhao Yuan patted Zhao Lai Di's head.
Lin Fangfang, Zhao Zhaodi, and Zhao Laidi all looked at Zhao Yuan in astonishment, completely bewildered.
"Something terrible has happened. There's a good chance that Zhao Yuan has gone mad and is talking nonsense."
Lin Fangfang looked at Zhaoyuan, feeling a pang of sadness. Although Zhaoyuan used to be a scoundrel, he was mentally sound and could earn some money to support his family. Although life was tough, they could manage to get by by enduring it.
If Zhaoyuan goes insane now, what will I do with my three children?
Thinking about all this, Lin Fangfang couldn't stop the tears from flowing down her face.
Zhao Yuan looked at Lin Fangfang and then at the two children, realizing that his sudden change in temperament, coupled with some nonsensical words, had frightened them.
That bastard Zhao Yuan used to cook too, but no one ever called him a culinary god.
"Fangfang, don't worry, I've just figured things out. I haven't gone crazy. Don't worry, your life and the children's lives will get better and better from now on. I'll never hang out with those shady friends again."
Zhaodi and Laidi, you must study hard, because studying can change your destiny.
Dad also wants to wait until our family's finances improve so he can take the college entrance exam. I'll work hard with you all.
Upon hearing this, Lin Fangfang, Zhao Zhaodi, and Zhao Laidi stared at each other with their mouths agape for a long time.
"It's over, it's over, your father has probably gone crazy. What are we going to do, Zhaodi?"
After saying that, Lin Fangfang burst into tears, and Zhao Zhaodi and Zhao Laidi also started crying.
"Zhaoyuan, please don't do this. We're still young, and we'll have a son someday."
Lin Fangfang held Zhao Yuan's hand and cried.
"Fangfang, what are you thinking? Do I look like a madman? Do you remember when Zhao Haiping from Group Five went crazy?"
Lin Fangfang stopped crying and looked at Zhao Yuan seriously.
Indeed, there's nothing wrong with his eyes; they don't look like the eyes of a madman.
“You didn’t even graduate from junior high school, how can you say you’re going to take the college entrance exam? How can I not think you’ve gone crazy?”
"Didn't I say that I would work hard with Zhaodi and Laidi? If we can't catch up this year, we can take the exam next year. We're going to give it a try."
"Okay, I support you as long as you want to do it."
Lin Fangfang hadn't spoken to Zhaoyuan like this in a long time. In the past, Lin Fangfang was the most supportive of Zhaoyuan; she would fully support whatever Zhaoyuan wanted to do.
Although Zhao Yuan had lost his parents and was an only child, he had no mother and his father looked down on him. His family opposed Lin Fangfang marrying Zhao Yuan because they believed that without anyone to help her, life would be very hard.
But Lin Fangfang still married Zhaoyuan.
"Fangfang, you've suffered with me these past few years. You'll see how I behave in the future."
This meal was the happiest moment for Lin Fangfang in recent years.
Zhao Zhaodi and Zhao Laidi had never seen their father so kind since they could remember. Eating such delicious food, a sense of happiness welled up within them.
I hope this kind of life can continue forever.
