Chapter 61 Fighting for Wages
Chapter 61 Fighting for Wages
After two whole days of working on the counterfeit money while slacking off, a lead was finally found, and all the leads pointed to a newspaper.
Bai Yexiu had scouted the area near that newspaper office, and for some reason, he had a premonition that he would run into Conan there.
The last time was during the Miyano Akemi incident, it was the only time he confronted Conan face-to-face with his true identity. This time, Byakuya doesn't want to use his true identity to punish that newspaper.
There are two reasons. First, I don't want to be bothered by Conan. Second, the police station is right next to the newspaper office. Professional matters should be handled by professionals. It's best not to do it myself so I can slack off.
Bai Yexiu deeply hated this counterfeiter. One-third of his salary came from counterfeit money; how could he possibly swallow this insult?
Bai Yexiu is fighting for his salary this time. Boss promised him that if he punishes the counterfeiters, he can ask the organization for one-third of his salary.
Bai Yexiu reached the building where he was going, looked up at the light shining through the window, and was about to take the stairs to the newspaper office when he heard a burst of somewhat unrestrained laughter—
It turned out that a policeman from the police station next door was laughing out loud at a group of children who were talking about something funny.
Bai Yexiu looked closely and realized that it was Conan and the three children. However, what he saw today was a little different. In addition to Conan, there was also a little boy and a little girl.
Just as he had predicted, he really did run into Conan.
“We’re telling the truth!” Ayumi said with absolute certainty. But the two police officers at the police station entrance clearly took them as a joke.
"Eh? It's Brother Longze!" Guangyan glanced at him unintentionally and excitedly pointed to where Bai Yexiu was, as if he had found a savior.
"If it's Brother Longze who said it, the police will definitely believe it!" Yuan Tai excitedly ran towards Bai Yexiu.
Bai Yexiu was stunned for a moment, not expecting to be discovered so quickly.
"Slow down, slow down, what happened?" Bai Yexiu walked towards the group of children and asked them what had happened.
The three innocent children began to recount what had happened, one after the other, while Conan and a little girl with their heads down remained listening in.
The little girl had short, brown hair and looked like she was trembling.
This hairstyle... looks familiar.
This was the first thought that popped into Bai Yexiu's mind when he saw her.
He remembered that Sherry had run away recently. Based on what he had foreseen after seeing Sherry before, he was certain that this little girl was Sherry.
However, Bai Yexiu still had some concerns about telling Gin about this. After all, Conan and these children were now involved with Sherry, and Gin would inevitably find out and silence them. If Conan died, would that dream come true?
A stagnant world is not what Bai Yexiu wants.
He had lived for more than a decade and had a vague feeling that this world was not his own, that he had come to a world that did not belong to a normal person, but rather to someone else.
But when he tried to think further, he couldn't remember anything. For the past ten years or so, Bai Yexiu had been certain of one thing—he had lost some memories, very important memories.
Bai Yexiu thought to himself that it would be better to let Gin investigate Sherry slowly. The organization wasn't without a replacement for Sherry. Without Sherry, the research would just be a little slower, but having Sherry to conduct the research was the best option.
Noticing Conan frantically winking at him, Bai Yexiu smiled and said in agreement, "Yes, it's a very exciting story. I think it would be good if you told it to your parents when you got home."
"What? Brother Longze, we're telling the truth!"
"How come even Brother Longze doesn't believe me..."
The children grumbled in disappointment, and Conan took the opportunity to run away: "You all stay here and don't move!"
Upon hearing this, Bai Yexiu, as if possessed, added, "I'll go buy you some oranges."
Thus, Bai Yexiu successfully escaped.
As the children watched Conan and Byakuya leave one after another, seeds of resentment began to sprout among them.
Conan left to use Shinichi Kudo's voice to call the police, while Byakuya Osamu left simply to take a detour and then bump into some kids at the newspaper office. Kids have a rebellious streak; the more Conan tells them not to move, the more they want to move, allowing Conan to successfully make his way through the scene.
Bai Yexiu's plan was to hand over the whole matter to Conan and the police, while he himself only needed to participate and have a witness testimonies. This way, he could tell the Boss that he was the one who called the police, and the matter would be assumed to have been completed by him. Subsequently, he could smoothly receive his 1/3 of his salary.
He doesn't need to put in any effort at all; he just needs to go through the motions and can touch the fish and such as he pleases.
After all, he's a seasoned pro at slacking off, and he's already honed his skills in this area.
……
Conan sighed and rubbed his forehead in exasperation.
Those troublesome kids actually went upstairs to deliver it!
Conan rushed to the newspaper office.
I really hope nothing bad happens to these guys...
The faint sound of children talking could be heard from the entrance of the newspaper office. Conan breathed a sigh of relief and was about to open the door when he felt something hard pressing against the back of his head.
"The detective game ends here, little brother."
Before Conan could make any move, he heard a muffled groan from the man behind him, followed by the sound of a heavy object falling to the ground.
Are you trying to imitate Gin's way of speaking?
Bai Yexiu put down the baseball bat he had just used to hit someone (which he had swiped from someone else), glanced at the person lying on the ground, and then looked up to meet Conan's surprised gaze.
"Ryuzawa, what are you doing here?" Conan asked in a low voice.
"Didn't you say this was a counterfeit money manufacturing den? I was just a little worried when I saw a bunch of kids go in," Bai Yixiu said quietly as he squatted down.
"I told them not to move, but they kept moving anyway," Conan said with a hint of resentment.
At that moment, a woman's voice suddenly came from inside the room through the door. Conan immediately became alert, while Shu leaned against the door and began to eavesdrop.
Judging from her tone, this woman is quite arrogant now, but whether she will remain arrogant later is another question.
Bai Yexiu's hand, gripping the stick, was already itching to strike.
The counterfeit money ended up in my salary, forcing me to do a task. I guess I'm doomed.
