Chapter 46 Goodwill
Chapter 46 Goodwill
"But what brings you here so late at night?" After confiding in her best friend, Ms. Leopard felt much better and asked directly.
"Well, it's not really anything special~" Paula's mom hesitated, a little embarrassed to speak up. After all, this wasn't the first time Ms. Leopard had lent her money, and she was feeling a bit awkward.
"What is it?" Ms. Leopard asked.
"What's there to hide about our relationship?" Ms. Leopard said with a smile.
"Well... big sister... oh dear, I always feel so bad for you... big sister, um..."
"Is it because of the money you borrowed before?"
"Oh well, never mind, you can pay me back next time."
"You can pay it back slowly~ I'm a nouveau riche, I have plenty of money~"
Paula's mother hesitated for a long time before finally saying anything, while Ms. Leopard answered first...
Unfortunately, the answer was wrong. Although the topic was similar, the meaning did not capture Paula's mother's point.
Paula's mother, after hearing what Ms. Leopard said, felt too embarrassed to speak further. Ms. Leopard had already helped her a lot, so she could only pretend that Ms. Leopard had guessed correctly and keep her worries to herself.
"Oh dear, have another drink!" Ms. Leopard didn't notice Paula's mother's strange expression for a moment.
Back home, Paula's mother sat in her room with her sleeping husband beside her, snoring loudly.
She sat quietly, her face blank, unsure how to face Deok-sun, who was about to go on a school trip.
Deok-sun had just returned from Yoo Seo-woo's house.
"What are you doing?" Deok-sun asked as she entered the room, seeing her younger brother, Yu-hui, intently counting money.
"Oh~ nothing, nothing at all~~" Yu Hui put the money away, his eyes darting around.
"So much money?" Deok-sun had already seen it.
"Oh~! Class fees! This is the class fees collected~~" Yu Hui's expression returned to normal as he spoke.
"You've collected quite a lot of class fees~ There must be over 70 people in your class, right?" Deok-sun didn't notice anything amiss and actually believed her. So naive...
"Oh~hehe~~Yes!" Yu Hui breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that his second sister believed him, and responded with a smile.
"You better be careful, the class funds in Sunwoo's class were stolen by some thugs before~" Deoksun innocently warned her younger brother.
"Oh! I see! I'll be careful," Yu Hui replied.
"You go to sleep first, sister~, I'm going to go for a walk to clear my head~" Yu Hui said.
"Hmm~" Deok-sun took two steps, then suddenly turned around and stared at Yu-hui.
"What's wrong?" Yu Hui forced a smile, looking at her second sister with a nervous heart.
"I'm going on a school trip tomorrow!!!"
Watching Deok-sun's excited, awkward dance, Yu-hui finally felt relieved and joined in with her awkward laughter...
In the room, Paula was lying down reading a book.
Deok-sun stuffed the clothes into her bag, then excitedly twisted her waist as she went to the closet to pick up the clothes and held them up, her face beaming with excitement.
Watching Deok-sun pacing around the room, Bora finally put down the book in her hand.
"Stop showing off and go to sleep!" Paula said.
"You go to sleep first!" Deok-sun said, gesturing with the clothes in her hand without even looking at Bora.
"You have five minutes to turn off the lights!" Paula said.
"Do you think this is an army? What five minutes?" Deok-sun scoffed.
"I can't guarantee what will happen in five minutes!" Paula warned.
"Tch~~" Deok-sun curled her lip in disdain.
Bora, who's always been strong-willed, and Deok-sun, who dares to challenge Bora, are both definitely not to be underestimated...
"Ah~" Bora was finally stepped on by Deoksun, who was walking around.
Watching the book in Bora's hand fall freely, Deok-sun took a step back, swallowed hard, and instinctively moved further and further away from the wardrobe.
"Do you know how steel is made?" Paula asked, puzzled.
Deok-sun watched Bora's retreating figure, her expression quiet and she remained silent.
“Not in Nikolai Ostrovsky’s novels, but in reality!” Paula said to herself.
"You only listen when you get beaten up, don't you! You only listen when you get beaten up! Ah!" Bora grabbed Deok-sun and started slapping her repeatedly.
"What nonsense are you spouting again!" Deok-sun retorted, expressing her incomprehension and resentment at being beaten up again.
"Hey! I told you to stop showing off and go to sleep!"
"I told you to go to sleep!"
"boom!"
"Seriously! Don't get cocky!"
Bora beat Deok-sun up and then closed the wardrobe door behind her.
"Mom!!!"
"Look at my sister!!! ~~ Waaaaaaah~~~~~"
Deok-sun's cries from inside the closet were distant and lingering...
"Ugh, so noisy!"
Paula's mom was woken up by the two sisters, while Yu Hui and Paula's dad were still fast asleep.
"Paula's mom~~" came a soft call from outside the door.
Paula's mother opened her eyes.
"Paula's mom, are you asleep? Come out for a second~" came another shout.
Paula's mom finally heard clearly, immediately threw off the covers, got up, and went out.
Pushing open the door and turning on the light, I saw who it was – it was Ms. Leopard.
"Oh my! It's so late, what's up?" Paula's mother asked with a puzzled smile.
"My relatives sent over some corn," Ms. Leopard said with a smile, handing over the corn.
"Oh, really? It must taste delicious!" Paula's mom accepted it with a big smile.
"I'm leaving now, go to sleep~" Ms. Leopard said, turning and leaving.
"Hey~~ Take care, big sister!" Paula's mom said with a smile.
Seeing that Ms. Leopard had left, Paula's mother turned around, put down the basket, and prepared to go back to sleep. But then she noticed something different in the corn. Curious, she reached out and took it out.
Inside a yellow envelope were stacks of Korean won. When Paula's mother turned to the last page, a note came into view.
"Deok-sun is going on a school trip tomorrow, right? Here, take this to supplement your allowance~"
Seeing the message "Zhengfeng's Mom" written at the end, Paula's Mom turned to look at the doorway where Ms. Leopard had left, her eyes moist as she smiled, and tears streamed down her face uncontrollably.
Although Ms. Leopard guessed Bora's mother's intentions wrong, the fact that she came to see her so late at night suggests that she had thought of Deok-sun's predicament after hearing about her school trip, which is why she came to her door in the middle of the night.
Paula's mother held the money in her hands, then slowly lowered them. She had lost count of how many times she had felt so grateful to have such a kind neighbor as her older sister...
Paula's mother returned to the room and looked at her husband snoring loudly. She couldn't help but sigh. Although he was a bit unreliable and always confused, their family's circumstances were far from allowing him to do whatever he wanted, even good deeds.
However, I like him because of his kindness. Although he has other flaws, isn't that how it is between husband and wife? Each of you has some shining qualities that attract the other. And sometimes, at some point in the future, you may feel that the other person's shining qualities are no longer attractive to you. But after all, a day as husband and wife is worth a hundred days of kindness.
