Chapter 333 The First Time I Flying on an Airplane: Offering Sacrifices to My Ancestral Spirits!
Chapter 333 The First Time I Flying on an Airplane: Offering Sacrifices to My Ancestral Spirits!
She didn't say what she was going to say, but her slightly furrowed brows and twirled fingers said it all—the travel expenses were a considerable sum, and she couldn't bear to spend them.
Ye Fan saw through her thoughts and smiled easily: "Don't worry, I'm not asking you to go back by yourself. I was just thinking of visiting your area; I've heard the Hunan cuisine is very authentic, and I've always wanted to try it. As a local, it's not too much to ask you to be my free tour guide, is it?"
He offered a reason that was hard to refuse, his tone carrying a sense of entitlement.
"Being a tour guide is fine!" Xian Zuling nodded immediately, her eyes lighting up. Being able to do something for Ye Fan seemed to lessen her embarrassment somewhat. "I know my hometown very well!"
"Then it's settled!" Ye Fan made the final decision. "I've already bought the tickets, and yours too. Let's go!"
"Huh? Buying tickets?" Xian Zuling was startled again, then opened her eyes wide in confusion. "Don't you need an ID card to buy tickets? How come you..." What she wanted to ask was how Ye Fan knew her ID number.
"Smack!" Ye Fan flicked her forehead lightly with his finger, annoyed. "You little scatterbrain! Don't you remember I'm the class monitor? All the forms you filled out when registering your student information at the beginning of the semester are here with me!"
A mischievous smile played on his lips.
"Oh! Right!" Xian Zuling suddenly realized, and rubbed her forehead embarrassedly, a slight blush rising on her fair skin.
"Alright, stop spacing out, let's go!" Ye Fan didn't give her time to hesitate any longer. He reached out and naturally took her wrist, leading her out of the kitchen and out of the quiet courtyard.
......
The two took a taxi to the airport.
The enormous terminal building, like a modern castle forged from steel and glass, gleams in the autumn afternoon sun, with a constant flow of people and vehicles.
Ye Fan, familiar with the route, led the ancestral spirit towards the entrance.
Xian Zuling seemed to be frozen in place, her steps slowing down involuntarily. She tilted her little face up, her clear eyes filled with shock and bewilderment.
The scene before her eyes was far beyond her limited imagination—she had never set foot in an airport, nor even seen a high-speed rail station.
In her mind, the so-called "taking an airplane" was perhaps just a vague concept, far less impactful than the magnificent, bright, and futuristic building in front of her.
"What are you daydreaming about?" Ye Fan noticed her pause, followed her gaze, understood, and softened his voice.
"Ah! No...it's nothing," Xian Zuling came to her senses, lowered her head somewhat embarrassedly, and then couldn't help but look up and quickly scan the huge glass curtain wall and dome, her voice filled with pure amazement, "It's...the airport...it's so big and beautiful!" she murmured, as if confirming that what she was seeing was not a dream.
"Hmm, it's quite impressive. Let's go inside and take a look." Ye Fan smiled, naturally taking her wrist and leading her, still somewhat dazed, into the crowd.
From clumsily learning to operate the self-service ticket machine (with Ye Fan patiently guiding her step by step), to queuing to pass through the security gate (when the security officer signaled her to raise her arm, she was as nervous as a little puppet).
Ye Fan explained to her in detail: why luggage needs to go through X-rays, why you can't bring too many liquids, why boarding passes are so important, and why you need to arrive at the airport so early...
Every routine that is commonplace for frequent travelers is a new world that Xianzuling needs to learn.
Xian Zuling listened very attentively, like the most focused student in class, nodding vigorously from time to time, trying to engrave these common sense facts into his mind.
She understood that Ye Fan was teaching her, helping her open a door to a wider world.
This patience and attentiveness warmed her heart, yet also left her with a bittersweet feeling.
......
After successfully passing through security, the two arrived at the rest area near the boarding gate.
Ye Fan continued pointing to the signs and the shuttle buses coming and going, explaining the boarding process in a low voice.
Xian Zuling sat down close to him, curiously observing everything around him—travelers hurrying by with their suitcases, business people resting with their eyes closed while clutching their briefcases, children running around excitedly...
Boarding has finally begun.
Upon entering the cabin and finding her spacious business class seat, Xian Zuling was once again pleasantly surprised by the comfort of the seat and the ample space.
But she didn't know it was a business class seat; if she had known the price, she would have been terrified!
Ye Fan helped her put her small bag away, then turned to the side and fastened her seatbelt buckle for her, who was still a little bewildered—a soft click seemed to fix her in this brand new experience.
Her seat happened to be by the window.
......
Twenty minutes later, accompanied by a deep roar and a slight push-back sensation, the plane began to accelerate and taxi on the runway.
As the spirit of the offering ancestral spirit began to race, an instinctive fear of the immense unknown instantly gripped her.
The moment the plane suddenly lifted off the ground, the intense feeling of weightlessness and the deafening roar of the engine made her close her eyes instantly, her long eyelashes trembling anxiously.
She subconsciously, almost with all her might, grabbed Ye Fan's hand tightly beside her, her cold little hand gripping his fingers as if they were her only lifeline.
"It's alright, don't be afraid, it's like this during takeoff." Ye Fan's gentle voice rang in her ear, carrying a reassuring strength. "It'll be over soon."
As the plane gradually climbed, the turbulence lessened, the fuselage became more stable, and the engine sound turned into a regular hum.
Ye Fan gently patted her small hand, which was still tightly gripping the back of his hand: "Okay, see, it's stable now."
Xian Zuling then cautiously and slowly opened his eyes.
The first thing that catches the eye is the sea of clouds outside the window, surging like giant cotton candy, its edges gleaming with dazzling gold under the afternoon sun.
She was instantly captivated by this magnificent sight she had never seen before, and her fear was replaced by amazement.
Only then did she realize that she was still tightly holding Ye Fan's hand. She recoiled as if burned, her cheeks instantly flushing red, and her voice barely audible, "Ouch! I...I'm sorry!"
Ye Fan simply looked at her, a tolerant smile curving his lips, without saying a word, his eyes filled with a barely perceptible pity.
The setting sun was slowly sinking outside the window, dyeing the sea of clouds outside the porthole with layers of golden red, orange and pale purple, a magnificent sight.
Xian Zuling was completely captivated by the beautiful scenery, forgetting her fear and shyness from before. She leaned forward slightly, her forehead gently resting on the cool porthole, her large eyes gazing intently out the window, as if trying to imprint this dreamlike scene deep into her mind. Her small figure, bathed in the golden afterglow, appeared exceptionally serene and focused.
