Chapter 311 The Strange Girl
Chapter 311 The Strange Girl
"Bang!" With a dull thud and a short, mournful cry from the crowman, the crowman who had tried to sneak up from the shadows and ambush Yeri from behind was killed instantly by Karen with a speed and precision that surpassed that of ordinary vision.
Its twisted and ugly body lay limp on the ground like a puppet with broken strings, then began to decompose, turning into a pool of dark energy that kept churning and exuding an ominous aura, before finally dissipating completely into the air, leaving only a faint smell of burning.
The crisis was resolved so quickly and thoroughly that Ye Rui hadn't even fully recovered from the shock and panic he had just been caught off guard.
He leaned against the cold wall, panting heavily, feeling his heart pounding wildly in his chest, almost as if it would jump out.
He instinctively turned around sharply, wanting to thank the mysterious girl who had saved him at the last moment. His voice trembled slightly with lingering fear: "Thank you..." However, when he saw the girl's current state, the words of gratitude that were on the tip of his tongue instantly choked in his throat.
The girl didn't look at him, and seemed to pay no attention to the enemy who had just disappeared.
She simply lowered her head slightly, the moonlight outlining the soft contours of her profile. Her once clear eyes were now lowered, her delicate brows furrowed slightly, and her long eyelashes cast faint shadows beneath her eyelids. A hint of pain, which she seemed to be trying to conceal but could still be detected, seemed to flash across her face. Ye Rui's heart leaped into his throat, and an inexplicable sense of tension gripped him.
Was it because he accidentally hurt her while protecting himself? Or was she already feeling unwell? His gaze involuntarily followed Karen's line of sight downwards with concern, finally settling on her slender, fair left arm, where a tear had been made in her sleeve, revealing a not-too-deep but clearly visible scratch, from which a string of tiny beads of blood were slowly seeping out, starkly contrasting against her fair skin.
It was probably a scratch from when I tackled that crow-man in the blink of an eye.
"You...you're injured!" Ye Rui exclaimed in surprise, her voice filled with guilt and anxiety.
He immediately turned around in a fluster, instinctively trying to rummage through his backpack for band-aids or disinfectant wipes, as if that would instantly make up for his mistake.
However, when he touched his casual clothes, he suddenly realized that he was not wearing the Victory Team uniform and that his backpack, which always contained emergency supplies, was not with him.
A sense of powerlessness welled up inside me.
Just then, the girl seemed to be startled by his movement, and slowly raised her head to look at Ye Rui.
Perhaps because of the pain, or perhaps because of other emotions, her two big eyes looked watery, covered with a thin layer of mist. Her clear gaze looked straight at Ye Rui, which made him momentarily lost in thought and stand there stunned.
Ye Rui suddenly remembered that he still had the clean gauze that the girl had wrapped around his hand before.
Without any hesitation, he immediately took action, carefully tearing a strip of suitable length from the roll of gauze and handing it to the girl, his eyes filled with earnestness: "Use this to bandage her first, be careful of infection!"
The girl looked at the gauze holding the knife in his hand, then glanced at his worried face, and nodded gently. Her voice was soft, but carried a strange calmness: "Thank you!" She did not take the gauze.
Ye Rui's hand froze in mid-air, his scalp tingling as he bandaged the other's wound, his tone full of concern: "Are you alright? Does the wound hurt?"
The girl shook her head again, trying to give him a reassuring look: "I'm fine." Hearing her affirmative answer, Ye Rui's tense nerves relaxed a little, and he breathed a long sigh of relief, a look of relief on his face: "You're okay? That...that's great."
But then, as if remembering something more important, his tone became urgent, and he turned to leave the temporarily safe corner, "You need to get out of here quickly and find a safer place to hide! I have to go save my brother! He might still be in danger!"
Seeing this, the girl suddenly reached out and gently but firmly stopped him, her eyes filled with an undeniable plea: "Don't go! Stay here, at least it's safe here for now!"
Nori paused, his tone becoming more serious, "If you manage to get out of here safely, please, you must find a way to report anything unusual to the Victory Team!"
He then emphasized again, his eyes flashing with determination, his tone unusually firm: "Furthermore, no matter what you see or hear now, I... I don't believe Karen would do such a thing!"
"Don't worry about me. Don't let my appearance fool you, I'm a member of the Victory Team!"
The girl, however, showed no surprise, as if she had made up her mind.
She reached out and grabbed Ye Rui's sleeve, saying, "If you absolutely must go, I know a place where your brother might be!"
