Chapter 417

Chapter 417

"Why is it a wooden coffin? Could it be that a corpse is buried inside?" Ling Yanyan muttered.

The Taoist priest ignored Ling Yanyan and walked to the coffin. He then knocked on the coffin lid, making a thumping sound.

"Is anyone there?" the Taoist priest called out.

Ling Yanyan's heart skipped a beat when he heard this.

At this moment, Master Mama patted the coffin lid and said, "If you don't mind, please come out and meet us."

Ling Yanyan stood behind the Taoist priest, straining his ears to listen for any sounds inside, but there was no sound at all.

“If you don’t want to see us, that’s fine. We’ll take the coffin away, but you can prepare to be buried here forever,” said Master Mama.

"Junior brother, make your move." Master Mama waved his hand at Ling Yanyan.

"Okay." Ling Yanyan agreed, then reached out and grabbed the coffin lid.

"Senior brother, I'm here." Ling Yanyan chuckled.

Click!

Ling Yanyan suddenly exerted force with both hands and directly lifted the coffin lid.

"Cough cough cough."

The moment the lid was lifted, Ling Yanyan was choked half to death and then coughed violently.

"Junior brother, are you alright?" Master Mama asked with concern.

"It's nothing." Ling Yanyan shook his head.

Once Ling Yanyan recovered, he wanted to find out who the owner of this ancient tomb was, that someone would build a mausoleum here.

But upon seeing this, Ling Yanyan was immediately dumbfounded.

Inside the coffin lay a man dressed in a black robe, with a full beard and dry, wrinkled skin, looking just like a corpse.

"What...what is this?" Ling Yanyan's mouth was slightly open, his eyes widened, utterly shocked.

Master Mama stared at the man in the coffin, frowned and thought for a moment, then said, "This man is not simple. He actually sealed himself in a coffin to guard the tomb."

"Guarding a tomb?" Ling Yanyan looked bewildered.

"Never mind all that. Since my junior brother says he's not a bad person, then he definitely isn't," said Master Mama. Then he added, "Let's hurry up and find an exit so we can leave here as soon as possible."

“Yes, that makes sense.” Ling Yanyan nodded.

Ling Yanyan continued along the passage. The passage was very long, and it took him almost half an hour to finally reach the end. It was a huge underground cavern with rock walls all around and no exit at all, unless he crawled out from underground.

"Junior brother, it seems we have no choice but to return the way we came," sighed Master Mama.

Ling Yanyan nodded and said, "That's fine, at least it's safer that way."

The Taoist priest took out a compass and candles, and the two began searching for mechanisms again. However, they searched the entire underground cavern but found no mechanisms or exits.

"To leave this ancient tomb, we must unravel its secrets," Master Mama said, frowning.

"Do you really know a way to leave this ancient tomb?" Ling Yanyan asked doubtfully.

“Well, I don’t remember exactly when I was told that, but I remember there’s a mechanism here. If we open that mechanism, we can leave this hellish place,” said Master Mama.

Ling Yanyan nodded.

"Where is the mechanism? I can't see it," Ling Yanyan asked.

The Taoist priest said mysteriously, "The mechanism is right beneath our feet."

"Senior brother, stop fooling around. There's a stone slab underneath, no traps." Ling Yanyan said with a mournful face.

“Junior brother, look at what’s on the ground?” Master Mama said, pointing to the stone slab under his feet.

Ling Yanyan looked up and noticed that a thick layer of dust covered the ground beneath their feet. He had been so focused on the coffin that he had overlooked it.

Ling Yanyan squatted down and examined them carefully, discovering that these stone slabs were no different from ordinary stone slabs.

"Senior brother, what is this stone slab? It doesn't seem special," Ling Yanyan said, scratching his head.

"Hehe, junior brother, watch me." Master Mama chuckled, then picked up the compass and fiddled with it on the stone slab, as if searching for something.
