Chapter 589 Keeping a Canary in Captivity (68)
Yan Zhen held a cup of hot water in his hands, letting Xiao Yun drape a coat over him: "Why are you here?"
"I came to see if I could be of any help," Xiao Yun said.
After Yan Zhen took the soup back, Xiao Yun did not leave immediately.
Seeing three cars leave the Yan family in a hurry, and Yan Zhen in the last car, Xiao Yun realized something was wrong, so he followed them to the hospital.
He originally intended to run errands for Yan Zhen or do something within his ability, but Yan Zhen's overall management skills were undeniable, and he had so many bodyguards, assistants, and butlers under his command that he could manage. He couldn't even get a chance to show his face, let alone get involved.
Xiao Yun decided not to cause Yan Zhen any more trouble. Seeing that she was still only wearing a thin nightgown and neither Yan's mother nor the housekeeper had noticed her while they were busy, he ran to the tea room, thinking of pouring her a cup of hot water.
After hearing Xiao Yun's explanation, Yan Zhen didn't say anything and took two sips of hot water.
Seeing that her body was slowly warming up and even her complexion had softened a bit, Xiao Yun whispered to comfort her, "Don't worry, your father will be alright."
Yan Zhen glanced at him briefly, then turned and walked toward the emergency room.
After walking a few steps, seeing that Xiao Yun hadn't followed, Yan Zhen turned back and asked, "Aren't you coming?"
Xiao Yun hesitated and said, "Your mother and children are over there. Would it be inconvenient for me to go there?"
"Why didn't you have this concern when the Mid-Autumn Festival family dinner was held at the Yan family's house?" Yan Zhen said irritably. "If you don't want to go, just go back to sleep."
Xiao Yun quickly jogged after him.
Back outside the emergency room, Yan's mother immediately noticed the men's jacket that Yan Zhen was wearing, and then she noticed Xiao Yun following behind Yan Zhen.
She frowned slightly, pulled Yan Zhen aside and whispered, "What's he doing here? Xiao Yu is still here. It wouldn't be good if he saw us."
"My stomach hasn't been feeling well these past couple of days, so he brought me some soup tonight," Yan Zhen explained. "As for Xiao Yu, it's alright, they know about each other's existence."
As the mother and daughter spoke, they both looked at Gao Xinyu beside them.
Gao Xinyu's gaze fell on Xiao Yun, who was also looking at him. The two stared at each other for a few seconds before Gao Xinyu looked away first.
Xiao Yun greeted Yan's mother and then nodded to Gao Xinyu as a greeting, without making any effort to win Gao Xinyu's favor.
The emergency room door opened forty minutes later, and Yan's father was wheeled out.
He was in a daze, but he was no longer unconscious, which relieved Yan's mother.
"Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases," the doctor said. "Last month's physical examination reminded Mr. Yan to pay attention to his diet and absolutely not to drink alcohol anymore. He also needs to control his emotions and try to avoid large fluctuations, otherwise it will be bad for his blood pressure."
The fact that Yan's father was alright put the whole family at ease.
Just as Yan Zhen settled her father into the ward, Yan Heng's anxious voice came from the corridor outside: "Nurse, which ward is Yan Jing in?"
Immediately afterwards, there was a symbolic knock on the door of the ward, and Yan Heng quickly pushed the door open and came in, followed by his two friends.
"Dad!" Yan Heng rushed to the bedside. "Dad, how are you?"
Dad was receiving an IV drip, his head was spinning, and as soon as he opened his eyes he felt dizzy and nauseous. Hearing his son's anxious voice, which was almost tearful, he hummed twice, "It's nothing, I'm just a little dizzy."
Yan Heng turned to Yan Zhen: "Sister, what's wrong with Dad?"
Yan Zhen repeated the doctor's words verbatim.
Yan's mother comforted her, "Xiao Heng, don't worry. It's normal for older people to have minor health issues. Your father already has blood pressure problems, and it was the alcohol he drank at the family dinner that triggered his condition. The doctor said he'll get an IV drip, take some medicine, and stay in the hospital for a few days."
Yan Heng's tense and anxious expression eased a little after hearing what his mother said.
"Dad, you can't drink anymore." Yan Heng sat down by the hospital bed and held his father's hand. "You scared me to death."
Upon hearing this, Yan's father smiled with relief, but his words were still sharp: "I'm not drinking anymore. What will happen to you and your children if you drink yourself to death? You're so old and still unmarried, and your sister is no pushover either. If I just die like this, who will take care of you..."
"dad!"
"Shut up, old man!"
Since Yan's father needed to rest, Yan Zhen and Yan Heng quickly left the ward with their respective people.
Standing in the corridor, Yan Zhen, Xiao Yun, Gao Xinyu, Yan Heng, and his two friends looked at each other in bewilderment.
Yan Zhen calmly observed Yan Heng's two friends. Up close, the burly man had a robust and honest appearance, while the other handsome young man had delicate features that made him almost androgynous.
Yan Heng was also secretly observing Xiao Yun.
Yan Heng was aware that his older sister had cheated on him and was keeping a minor celebrity as a mistress, but this was the first time he had ever met Xiao Yun.
Seeing that Xiao Yun was under thirty years old, neither greasy-haired nor obsequious, he was quite different from the kind of scheming male mistress he had imagined.
Gao Xinyu stood between the two groups of people, glancing at his mother one moment and then at his uncle the next.
He could sense the undercurrents between them, but he didn't understand why they were standing face to face, neither speaking nor leaving.
After a while, Yan Zhen took two steps forward. Just as she was about to speak to Yan Heng so she could chat with the handsome young man, a notification sound suddenly rang in the system.
"A homologous system detected—"
Yan Zhen was slightly taken aback, and at the same time noticed that the expression on the little boy standing next to Yan Heng's face also became subtle.
The two exchanged a glance, their eyes conveying the unspoken understanding that they were colleagues.
"Yan Heng, Xiao Yu is hungry. Why don't you and Xiao Yun take him out to get something to eat?"
Yan Heng blinked blankly, not yet reacting, when he saw Xiao Yun, like a robot receiving instructions, pull Gao Xinyu's arm and walk outside.
Gao Xinyu also looked puzzled: "Mom, I don't..."
"You're hungry!" Yan Zhen interrupted him. "Listen to me, go out and get something to eat."
Over there, the little boy spoke up: "Xiao Liu, you go with Yan Heng, and bring me back a bottle of mineral water."
"Okay, okay." After saying that, the big boy put his arm around Yan Heng's shoulder and walked out with him, "Yan Heng, let's go."
In the blink of an eye, only Yan Zhen and the little boy remained outside the ward.
The corridor wasn't a place to talk, so Yan Zhen said "Come with me" and turned to walk upstairs to Gao Shenghan's ward.
Upon arriving at the ward, Yan Zhen ignored Gao Shenghan on the bed, pushed open the door, and turned around to look the young boy up and down.
"From the Quick Transmigration Bureau?"
The little boy nodded and asked, "Are you Yan Heng's older sister?"
“Yes.” Yan Zhen looked him up and down. “Yan Heng is also from the Quick Transmigration Division, did you know that?”
"know."
"Did you know he was a candidate for the position of Chief God?"
"know."
"Do you know he has a girlfriend?"
