Chapter 426 The Predator Trapping Plan (25)
He raised his hand and swept the centipede away.
The next moment, a series of "plop" sounds rang out, and countless centipedes rained down from the sky, landing on these people and quickly burrowing into their collars and cuffs.
"An alien species!"
"Run! It's a mutant!"
But it was too late. The bitten team members collapsed to the ground, writhing in pain and howling in agony.
Soon, more than a dozen people lay sprawled on the ground.
Dozens of meters above them lay the wreckage of an old-fashioned helicopter. Yan Zhen and Qin Shao sat leisurely on the rotor blades, watching the whole thing unfold.
"OK, wiped out." Yan Zhen snapped his fingers casually, mimicking Qin Shao's manner. "Let's go back to Area C and see if Shen Rong has taken care of things."
Qin Shao stood up as instructed, reached out to Yan Zhen, and tried to "clamp" her down.
Before Yan Zhen could even extend his hand, Qin Shao's expression changed drastically. He immediately clutched his heart, and as if all his strength had been drained, his body went limp, and he plummeted towards the metal forest below.
Yan Zhen's heart tightened, and she moved faster than she could react, rushing over to grab his hand.
He grabbed Qin Shao's arm tightly a second before he fell, managing to keep him suspended in mid-air after he fell off the helicopter rotor.
The propeller wobbled up and down.
Yan Zhen gritted his teeth and tried to drag the unconscious Qin Shao up.
But Qin Shao was tall, so dragging him up would be no easy task.
Yan Zhen tried his best but failed, and his futile efforts only drew a soft laugh from not far away.
Yan Zhen stopped what he was doing and looked around warily.
The surroundings were shrouded in mist, and footsteps could be heard approaching.
Before long, a person completely covered from head to toe in a hooded black cloak and wearing a gas mask emerged from the fog.
Two fully armed thugs followed behind him. Wherever the three of them went, the centipede-like creatures scattered as if they had been burned.
Yan Zhen noticed that the person seemed to have a problem with one leg, which made him walk much slower than normal.
Is this the person who betrayed Qin Shao?
Yan Zhen maintained his grip on Qin Shao, staring intently at the newcomer.
The person looked up at her, his voice tinged with amusement: "Miss Jiang, do you need any help?"
"...No need." Yan Zhen refused outright, but was puzzled. How did this person know that his surname was Jiang?
"It seems you can't get our boss off this place. How about I help you?" the man said with a smile. "Hand him over to me, and I'll let you leave here."
"No need," Yan Zhen refused outright, and tried again to pull Qin Shao up.
But Qin Shao didn't budge. Yan Zhen had a feeling that if he kept pulling, he would break Qin Shao's arm.
The three people below looked up at her busily working with a leisurely air, neither helping nor trying to take anything from her.
Ten minutes later, exhausted, Yan Zhen sat down on the propeller and began to survey the surrounding terrain—looking for another way out.
The newcomer then said slowly, "Stop struggling. Hand him over to me. Go back to your C-sector outpost and pretend you never met this person. It was just a chance encounter. Even if you like him, there's no need to risk your life and the lives of your two companions for him, is there?"
Yan Zhen stared at the newcomer, narrowing his eyes.
She installed thermal imaging cameras around the base, and with Qin Shao's mental perception, she was certain that no one could hide silently within a range where they could eavesdrop on their conversations without being detected.
Why does this person know so much about her relationship with Qin Shao, as well as the situation inside the stronghold?
Yan Zhen's first thought was a bugging device.
But Qin Shao wasn't the kind of person who would be unaware if someone had a bug on him.
The newcomer met Yan Zhen's puzzled and confused gaze and slowly drew the gun from his waist: "Are you sure you won't listen to my advice? Then I'm going to take action. Once I fire, you will be shot down like two birds."
Yan Zhen frowned, and after carefully observing the terrain, he immediately had a solution in mind.
Her gaze, which had been fixed on the newcomers, suddenly turned sharply to look behind them, and shouted at the same time, "Shen Rong, make your move!"
As soon as he said this, the thugs behind the newcomer turned around and opened fire.
Taking advantage of the moment when they were fooled and their attention was diverted, Yan Zhen swiftly drew his gun and fired two shots at the man.
As the man stumbled back a couple of steps, somewhat disheveled from the beating, she leaped towards the rotor, clinging tightly to Qin Shao with one hand as she plummeted, while risking her life to grab onto the rotor of another helicopter extending about twenty meters below.
The propeller was made of elastic material. Yan Zhen held onto it with one hand, supporting the weight of two adults at the same time. The propeller immediately bent downwards in a deep arc.
This move successfully delayed the impact of the two people jumping down in a suicidal manner. At the same time, Yan Zhen heard a "crack" sound from his own arm joint as it dislocated.
For a fleeting moment, the muscles in her face contorted in pain.
Using the propeller's bend to temporarily cushion the impact, Yan Zhen quickly glanced down at the nearly ten-meter distance beneath his feet, gritted his teeth, let go again, and jumped down with Qin Shao.
The moment they landed, Yan Zhen rolled to the ground with Qin Shao in his arms, using skill to dissipate most of the impact.
The two rolled several times, and Yan Zhen's back and the back of her head hit a piece of spaceship wreckage, causing her to see stars from the pain.
The dizziness only lasted a few seconds, and Yan Zhen shook his head to force himself to wake up.
Upon catching sight of three people rushing towards them from the wreckage of a mecha, Yan Zhen immediately stood up, ignoring the pain of his dislocated arm, hoisted Qin Shao onto his back, and sprinted forward.
The physical strength and experience gained from climbing and jumping in the metal forest over the past period came in handy at this moment. Yan Zhen carried a grown man weighing over 100 pounds on his back and still moved nimbly.
The two henchmen behind her, presumably there to ensure the safety of the disabled cripple, were quickly left far behind.
Yan Zhen ran for more than twenty minutes straight, not knowing how far he had run, when Qin Shao on his back slowly woke up: "Jiang Ti."
Yan Zhen turned her head and glanced at him: "You're awake?"
"Put me down."
Yan Zhen then stopped and gently put him down: "Are you alright? Are you feeling unwell anywhere?"
When Qin Shao woke up, he acted as if nothing had happened. When Yan Zhen reached out to check if he was feeling unwell, he grabbed her arm and frowned when he saw her dislocated arm joint.
Yan Zhen could see a hint of heartache in his expression, but she remained nonchalant: "I'm fine."
After saying that, he rubbed his hand in front of Qin Shao and then pushed the dislocated joint back into place with a "snap".
Qin Shao: "..."
"Where do you feel unwell? Why did you suddenly faint?"
At this point, Qin Shao's face darkened, and he clutched his heart: "It just lost power here."
Yan Zhen was taken aback: "Power outage? Your mechanical heart has a battery?"
