Chapter 91: Mirek’s Trial: Choice (II)
Chapter 91: Mirek’s Trial: Choice (II)
Lavayla frowned as she took a few steps forward.
"Mirek?" she called, her voice low, careful, as if speaking too loudly might make something worse.
He did not respond.
"Mirek, are you all right?" she asked again, closing the distance between them.
His body remained rigid, his posture locked in place as though he were holding himself together through sheer force. The tension in his muscles had not eased. If anything, it had grown tighter, more strained.
Then the voice spoke again.
"He is in the second trial and is undergoing an additional test from the space consciousness. There is nothing to worry about. Do not be alarmed. He will not be harmed in any way. Once he overcomes this, he will be safely brought out of the illusion."
Lavayla’s brows pulled together.
"An extra test?" she repeated, her tone sharpening slightly. "What do you mean an extra test? What is happening to him?"
She stepped closer, her eyes fixed on Mirek’s face.
"Can you tell me what kind of test this is?" she continued, her voice tightening despite her effort to stay composed. "He looks like he’s in pain."
She stopped a short distance from him.
Her hand lifted slowly, hesitating for just a fraction of a second before she placed it on his shoulder.
His skin was warm and despite her touch, he did not react.
Lavayla’s fingers tightened slightly against him. A faint unease crept into her chest, spreading faster than she could contain it.
"I apologize," the voice replied, calm and distant. "I cannot disclose the details until the trial is complete and you obtain control of the inheritance. However, I can inform you that there is a ninety percent probability that both of you will inherit the Ravine Mist space."
Lavayla did not respond because she wanted to curse the voice or roll her eyes at its words but she did neither.
Her attention had already shifted completely to Mirek.
Her hand moved from his shoulder to the hollow near his collarbone, then higher along the side of his neck. His pulse was steady, but there was a tightness beneath his skin, a tension that refused to ease. She lifted her other hand and placed it against his face.
His expression made her pause.
His brows were drawn together, his jaw tight, his features strained in a way she had never seen before. It was not the controlled focus he carried in battle, nor the calm restraint he showed in difficult situations.
This was different.
This was a painful expression. He was going through pain.
Lavayla’s fingers stilled against his cheek.
She did not like it.
Not like this. Not when she could not understand what he was going through or do anything to stop it.
Her thumb brushed lightly along his jaw, a small, unconscious movement.
"Mirek..." she murmured.
There was no response.
Time passed.
She did not move away.
Her gaze remained fixed on his face, watching every slight shift in his expression, searching for any sign that the tension might ease.
For a moment, it seemed as though the strain lessened.
Then, a few minutes later, without warning, his body dropped.
He went down onto one knee.
"Mirek!"
Lavayla reacted immediately. She dropped down in front of him, her knees hitting the ground as she reached up and held his face with both hands.
"Mirek, are you all right? Can you hear me?"
He did not answer.
A low groan escaped him, rough and strained, pulled from deep in his chest.
Lavayla froze for a fraction of a second.
That sound alone told her everything she needed to know.
He was in pain.
A lot of pain.
Her grip tightened slightly as she leaned closer.
"Mirek, wake up," she said, her voice no longer as steady as before. "You need to come out of this."
She shifted forward and wrapped her arms around him, pulling him into a firm embrace. One hand pressed against his back while the other moved to his head, her fingers sliding into his hair as she held him close.
"Mirek, if you can hear me, listen to me," she said quickly, her voice low but urgent. "You’ve already passed the trial. What you’re going through now is just something extra. You don’t need to complete it. Just come out of it."
She tightened her hold slightly, her hand pressing more firmly against his head.
"It’s not real," she continued, each word clear and deliberate. "Whatever you’re seeing, whatever is happening, it’s not real. It’s an illusion. The space created it."
Her breath came out unevenly as she spoke.
"You need to pull yourself out of it. Don’t stay there. Don’t let it keep you."
She pulled back slightly, just enough to look at his face again.
"Mirek, look at me," she said, her voice softer now but no less firm. "You need to wake up. Do you hear me?"
She leaned in again, her forehead almost touching his as she spoke near his ear.
"I’m here," she whispered. "It’s me. Lavayla. You’re not there. You’re here with me."
For a moment, nothing changed.
Then his body jerked.
Lavayla pulled back immediately, her eyes searching his face.
Something had shifted.
She did not hesitate.
She wrapped her arms around him again, holding him tighter this time, her voice dropping to a steady, continuous whisper near his ear.
"Mirek, it’s me. I’m right here," she repeated. "You need to come back. Leave that place. Come back here."
Her fingers tightened slightly in his hair as she spoke again.
"Do you hear me? You need to get out of the illusion."
She did not stop.
She stayed close, her voice steady, grounding, repeating the same words over and over as if anchoring him to reality.
"I’m here. Come back."

A/N: Hey guys, it’s been a while since I last dropped an author’s note, so I just wanted to give a quick update.
Merek’s illusion is finally wrapping up in the next Chapter. I know it kind of turned into its own mini-arc (honestly, it really did 😅), but we’re moving forward now.
We’re also getting close to Volume 2. The plan is to step into it around Chapter 100, so we’re almost there.
And seriously, thank you to every single one of you still reading. Especially those who stuck with the story even during the time it got banned, and the newer readers who’ve been showing so much support with gifts, comments, and reviews. I appreciate it more than I can properly say.
I promise Volume 2 is going to step things up a lot. More drama, more plotlines, and yeah... a lot more characters. Like, a lot. I might struggle to keep track sometimes, so if you spot any name mix-ups or inconsistencies, feel free to point them out. I’ll go back and fix things where needed.
Get ready—we’re about to dive into Volume 2 and Lavayla’s real journey into the beast world.
