Chapter 631 Demon Egg Hatching
Chapter 631 Demon Egg Hatching
"You... You all just wait!"
An invisible rage echoed within the Devil’s Cave, as if transmitting a signal. But just as the voice faded, the embattled Demon Clan vanished, having turned completely to ash.
In the next second, the gloomy black pool became crystal clear.
The small snake on Li Nian’er’s arm sprang into action, darting toward the water. At the same time, the Demon Egg in Xiao Xiao’s sleeve escaped and began to hop and bounce along.
GULP. It plunged into the pool after the little snake, creating two small ripples.
"What’s going on? How can it move on its own?" Cheng Lu’s eyes widened in disbelief. He had no idea what was happening and could only watch.
Li Nian’er, however, remained perfectly calm. After forming a contract with the Heaven-Devouring Azure Python, she could clearly sense its intentions. The little snake told me something as it went down... Could there be treasure at the bottom?!
Ye Qingchen activated his Double Pupils, carefully examining the activity beneath the pool’s surface. The pool had been enveloped in Demonic Qi, making it impossible for him to break through the barrier on his own. Now, however, he could see everything at the bottom clearly. He was surprised to discover a golden-green, stone-like object resting at the bottom of the pool.
The Demon Egg and the Heaven-Devouring Azure Python moved swiftly, diving to the deepest part in the blink of an eye. The two began to struggle relentlessly underwater, neither one willing to give way. The Demon Egg proved surprisingly capable. It used its smooth shell to evade the snake’s attacks and took advantage of its unique shape to reach the stone first.
Enraged, the Heaven-Devouring Azure Python opened its gaping maw, looking as if it wanted to swallow the egg whole. Yet, the Demon Egg gave it no chance to react. The moment its surface brushed against the stone at the bottom of the pool, the object was instantly absorbed into its shell.
It even let out a cheeky belch. The resulting bubbles drifted up from the bottom, growing larger as they rose. Seizing the opportunity, the egg used the distraction to quickly escape from the pool.
Seeing the prize it was about to claim get snatched away, the Heaven-Devouring Azure Python furiously shot after it, only to find the Demon Egg already nestled safely in Xiao Xiao’s arms. It bared its fangs, eager to pounce and rip the egg to shreds, but Li Nian’er seized it from behind.
In Xiao Xiao’s arms, the Demon Egg grew increasingly hot. Perhaps from whatever it had just swallowed, the entire shell began to smoke as cracks started to appear on its surface. Worry was etched across Xiao Xiao’s face.
Zhu Liang, having recovered his strength, saw the situation and quickly explained, "Don’t worry, this is a normal reaction after eating. It must be time for it to hatch!"
As he finished speaking, the gray-brown layer of skin wrapped around the egg began to flake off. The demon within gradually revealed its true form: a small, fluffy gray mouse. It looked exceptionally unremarkable, except for one thing. Perhaps due to the Crystal Stone it had swallowed, the tuft of fur on its forehead had turned a vivid green, making it incredibly conspicuous against its otherwise plain coloring.
The little gray mouse hovered in the air, its eyes tightly shut. Xiao Xiao widened her eyes and stared intently, not daring to make any rash movements.
The Heaven-Devouring Azure Python glared at the hatching gray mouse, fangs bared. Even with Li Nian’er’s tight grip, it couldn’t help but struggle, desperate to fly up and gulp the creature down. Its green, triangular eyes had turned scarlet with rage, but with Li Nian’er there, it didn’t dare to act recklessly.
Xiao Xiao hadn’t been very satisfied with her new pet, but watching the tiny thing hatch before her very eyes, she couldn’t help but feel her heart warm slightly. She hadn’t forgotten that it was this little guy who had led them deep into the Devil’s Cave, allowing them to make so many other discoveries.
The small gray mouse slowly opened its eyes in mid-air. Its long eyelashes, paired with its grayish-brown eyes, gave it an unexpectedly cute appearance.
"And here I thought it would be some impressive little pet. Turns out it’s just a mouse!" Cheng Lu had expected something rare to emerge from the Demon Egg, but it was just a common mouse. The Demon Clan had a species of mouse that lived in swarms, and their reproduction rate far outpaced that of the demons themselves. In other words, these mice were everywhere.
The small gray mouse looked at Cheng Lu with bewildered eyes, its body trembling as if it were frightened. Xiao Xiao quickly brushed away the surrounding Demonic Qi and hugged it to her chest.
Seeing this, Ye Qingchen stepped forward. "Senior Brother, this mouse should be different from the others. Besides, its attributes are compatible with Xiao Xiao’s Vermilion Bird Holy Soul."
He had subconsciously activated his Dual Pupil Martial Soul and could clearly sense that this small gray mouse was unlike the other Demon Eggs he had seen before. Furthermore, the little creature had just snatched something from the clutches of the Heaven-Devouring Azure Python, causing the powerful beast to suffer a loss. It was definitely not a simple creature.
"Xiao Xiao, do you trust me?" Ye Qingchen asked, his gaze serious.
"Of course I trust what Young Master says!" A warm feeling spread through Xiao Xiao’s heart. Although the Demon Egg had come to her on its own, it was ultimately the Young Master who had insisted she choose it. Thinking of this, she didn’t hesitate. She immediately formed the contract, imprinting the prepared seal into the small gray mouse’s mind.
After securing the new pet, the group scavenged the depths of the Devil’s Cave for herbs and Spirit Stones, then headed back toward the entrance.
As soon as they opened the door, a thick wave of Demonic Qi filled the air, nearly suffocating them. Looking up, they were stunned. For some unknown reason, six or seven out of every ten Demon Eggs on the stone wall had hatched. The infant demons swarmed the ground, greedily sucking up the residual Demonic Qi and the essence from the Spirit Stones. The pungent smell of evaporated egg fluid hung in the air, and everything was damp and sticky.
When the group suddenly appeared through the doorway, they immediately attracted the attention of all the young demons. Some took to the air, some crawled on the ground, and others ran on four hooves—all of them swarmed toward them. The sight was utterly revolting.
Zhu Liang, as the senior brother, was the first to react. He channeled his power with one hand, conjuring a powerful gale that swept toward the swarming demons. In just a few seconds, the disorderly crowd was thrown into disarray.
The group moved quickly, leaping through the chaos toward the corridor that led to the exit. But just as they were halfway there, the mouth of the cave was shrouded in Demonic Qi. One after another, demons filed in from outside, led by the same ferocious, large demon they had encountered on their way in.
