Chapter 774. End of the National Competition 1.
Tawaki Xi eventually appeared a few walks away from Kailen. He was still in the whirlwind, as he held the sickle formed from his wind principle.
"I don’t hold anything against you," Tawaki said.
Kailen replied, "Likewise."
Kailen took a step forward. Tawaki Xi did the same as the whirlwind surrounding him disappeared. His wind sickle cleaved through the air, making whooshing sounds. The wind sickle came down on Kailen with overbearing might.
Kailen didn’t release any attack. He simply melded with the void and reappeared right in front of Tawaki Xi. The wind sickle redirected its descent, cleaving towards Kailen from behind.
The audience noticed that this was most likely Tawaki Xi’s strongest attack. He did not underestimate his opponent, even though he had no idea of how terrifying Kailen was, unlike how terrifying the audience, who had been watching Kailen’s battle with chaotic beasts, knew him to be.
At this moment, Kailen simply touched the wind sickle with his index finger. Everyone watching saw an ethereal hue on Kailen’s index finger. The wind sickle twisted and bent, rippling in and out of existence as the ethereal hue spread across its surface. Eventually, it disappeared completely, ceasing to exist.
Tawaki’s eyes gleamed. Torrents of wind blasted across the sea surface, causing waves to rise and fall. All this while, Kailen simply stood there calmly. Tawaki had widened the distance between him and Kailen. Clearly, he deemed Kailen a threat if he allowed him to get closer to him.
What he had forgotten was that Kailen was a space principle user, and space was everywhere, and encompassed, hosting everything. Kailen didn’t need to appear right in front of him to attack.
The audience observed as the torrents of wind blasting across the sea surface rushed towards Tawaki. The torrents of wind turned into a ginormous wind principle flag in Tawaki’s hand. Tawaki stared at Kailen closely, then threw the wind flag towards Kailen.
The wind flag spun as it approached Kailen. The more it spun, the more it caused a tornado of wind to brew on the sea. Eventually, by the time it got close to Kailen, the tornado was so ginormous that Kailen looked like an ant floating before it. Kailen, however, was still calm, as an ethereal hue clouded his figure.
The tornado of wind, having the wind flag at its center, crushed into Kailen’s figure. Or so it seemed.
No one doubted that Kailen Darkhaven would overcome this attack. After what they had seen him do, he certainly would not fall here. The gap between him and Xi was just too large, even though they were all Rank 3 novice-stage transcendents. But, who knew Tawaki Xi would be this powerful. What they thought was his final attack earlier, when he conjured that sickle attack, was not his final attack. It seemed this was his trump card. Still, he was not a match for Darkhaven.
As expected, as the tornado whipped past Kailen’s figure, he was unaffected. Tawaki saw him emerge from the tornado with the ethereal hue still around his figure. The shock on Tawaki’s face was palpable. How the hell was Kailen Darkhaven this powerful?
Shit... he had to flee.
Tawaki turned around to flee, the colossal whirlwind and the wind flag at its center disappearing. Kailen’s void-like hair fluttered in the wind, as he stared at the retreating fellow.
Was Kailen Darkhaven letting him flee? Many spectators asked and discussed.
Kailen didn’t wave his hand, nor did he move. The attack came from Tawaki’s front.
A large spatial bell appeared before him, spinning, causing space to twist and rippling in and out of existence. By the time he realized what was happening, he was already in the ethereal spatial bell.
The audience observed as Tawaki screamed in pain in the ethereal spatial bell. Parts of his body melded and twisted unnaturally in the spatial bell as several portions of his body disappeared completely. Tawaki gave Kailen Darkhaven one last look as he felt the spaces between his cells being widened, as if every atom in his being was being pulled apart from one another by some unseen power.
Kailen Darkhaven stared back at him with calm, casual, void-like eyes. Kawaki now realized that he had brought this on himself. Had he been content with the second place, he could have gotten into the NGU. The academy, although it was a holy ground for transcendents in the empire, was not the only path to power after all.
But, was it his fault to underestimate Kailen Darkhaven’s power? Had he known prior that his enemy was this strong, he would have hunted chaotic beasts in the forest region where he was, and kept his rank until the competition ended. He would have not journeyed here to his death.
His life since he became an awakener in the edge region of the universe, up to when he became a transcendent, flashed through his mind before he sighed deeply. Just a single mistake had cost him everything he had worked for. The universe was really a cold, ruthless place where anyone could die at any time.
These were his last thoughts before his whole figure disappeared from existence in the spatial bell.
The audience sighed. What a tragic end for someone with such potential. To think he would send himself to his death.
Tawaki Xi of the 30th Continent was dead. He had been overconfident, not knowing that his opponent was too terrifying. When he realized it and decided to flee, it had been too late.
Many even shook their heads about the fact that several participants among the finalists weaker than him had survived in the national competition because they had chosen their battles carefully. A single mistake to choose the wrong battle had cost him everything and ended his life. Such was the ruthless nature of the universe. Death was always lurking in the shadows. One act of carelessness and that would be the end for you.
At this moment, the rankings glitched again as Julian Seir was pushed to second place. Then, the rankings glitched again as the person in the 11th place disappeared. There were only ten participants remaining now.
The spectators knew why this had happened. They had watched as the representative from the Beginning Guild of the 21st continent was gobbled by a Rank 4 novice-stage chaotic beast that ambushed him.
It seemed the national competition had finally come to an end. The rankings were now fixed.
As for Kailen Darkhaven, several stared at him with admiration as he floated on the sea surface. A thought bloomed in the hearts of everyone. If he didn’t meet any unfortunate event and didn’t die, how terrifying would he be in some years to come?
Who would have thought that someone who hid his power so well at the beginning of the NGU Competition would become the champion who would obtain the slot to enter the Venzula Empire Academy. He had displayed overwhelming power before the whole empire and dazzled everyone.
Kailen Darkhaven had obtained first place in the NGU national competition. As for Julian Seir, just as he had said, he had obtained second place. These two had proven their words with their actions.
The southern continent was currently in an uproar at the moment. Everywhere was shaking with roars of excitement. Kailen Darkhaven and Julian Seir had created a miracle for them. They had actually managed to get first and second place in the NGU national competition.
