Crossing the famine to find the white moonlight

Chapter 354 The Threat from Generals

Chapter 354 The Threat from Generals

Sunlight filtered through the cracks in the tent, spilling onto the table and illuminating Ye Wan's fingers. The maps and plans she'd been clutching tightly were like the battlefield in her mind, complex and fraught with uncertainty. After the confrontation a few days ago, Ye Wan hadn't completely let go of her worries. She knew the imperial court wouldn't give up easily. Sure enough, she didn't have to wait long before the ruthless general appeared before her again, his signature icy smile a sign of the impending inevitable storm.

"Lord Ye Wan, it seems you still don't understand what we mean." The general maintained his condescending attitude, his steps heavy and slow as he entered the tent, as if each step was a rhythm of oppression. "Do you think you can remain independent of the court forever? You know the court's majesty and our attitude towards rebellion."

Ye Wan didn't look up, but simply calmly looked at the documents on the table. Her tone was flat, "If you think threats can make me surrender, then you overestimate yourself. Let me tell you, our team just wants to live a stable life and doesn't want to be involved in any power struggles."

Her words were still gentle, but each one was like a sharp sword, piercing the deepest soft spot in the general's heart. Her determination made the general's eyes darken instantly, as if the atmosphere suddenly became solemn.

The general sneered, his patience clearly running out. A cold glint flashed in his eyes. "You misunderstood, Ye Wan. We are not here to discuss any cooperation opportunities with you. Instead, we are offering you a final choice. The court will not give you many opportunities. If you still refuse our requisition, we will have no choice but to regard you as a rebellious force and eliminate you."

These words were like a bomb exploding in Ye Wan's heart. Her gaze suddenly fixed, all her composure and rationality shaken by these words. The general's words carried a clear threat, cold and direct. It was no longer the soft appeal he had previously made, but a silent declaration: Either you surrender, or be prepared to face harsh consequences.

Ye Wan took a deep breath, anger welling up inside her, but she didn't let herself get caught up in the whirlpool of emotion, remaining calm. "Do you really think the court can force me to surrender with just words? You're wrong. I'd rather fight to the death than be your puppet."

The general's expression grew increasingly grim, and his deep voice was filled with threats. "If you don't understand, there's no such thing as a permanently independent force in this world. If you refuse to cooperate, the imperial court will use force to eliminate you, just as it would any other rebellious force. You may have lived peacefully these past few years, but that was nothing more than your own wishful thinking."

"I understand what you mean." Ye Wan raised her head, her eyes cold. "You regard me and my team as rebels, thinking we can be easily crushed."

"That's right." The general stared into her eyes, practically squeezing out these words through gritted teeth. "You are but commoners. Why do you refuse the imperial court's call? If you don't submit, we will disrupt this peace and wipe you all out."

Ye Wan said nothing more. She knew that no matter how she explained, she wouldn't change the general's opinion. She stood up, her face calm, but her eyes sharp. "You think you can sway me with threats?" Her tone was slow, yet murderous. "You're wrong. Even the imperial army can't decide our fate. Our team has its own beliefs and strength. We are not a group that can be easily overwhelmed."

The general was clearly intimidated by her resolute aura and remained silent for a moment. He snorted coldly and turned to leave, but at the door, he glanced back at Ye Wan and his tone became even more sinister: "Ye Wan, if you persist in your wrongdoing, you will regret it later."

"I have no regrets." Ye Wan stood firm, her gaze as cold as ice. "No matter what, I will defend our team's independence and freedom until the very end."

Watching the general's departing figure, Ye Wan breathed a sigh of relief, her heart filled with a heavy sense of responsibility. She knew that this storm would not subside easily, the court would never tolerate her refusal, and her team would face unprecedented challenges.

Just as she turned around and was about to continue directing the team members to prepare for defense, the core team members who rushed over called her out of her thoughts.

"Captain, the atmosphere outside is becoming increasingly tense, and everyone is starting to worry about future safety. Can we cope with it?" One of the core members had a worried look in his eyes. Obviously, the threat from the imperial court had caused quite a stir in the team.

Ye Wan didn't answer directly, but gently patted the man's shoulder. "Don't worry. We never underestimate any possible threats, nor do we relax our preparations for the future. Remember, no matter what kind of enemy we face, we must remain steadfast and defend our homeland."

Her voice was calm, but it carried a deep determination, which was like an iron chain that firmly strung everyone's heart together.

Yet, Ye Wan's heart was quietly growing uneasy. She knew that this threat from the imperial court was not groundless, and perhaps a greater conspiracy lay behind it. The challenges ahead would be even more severe, and she must be fully prepared and not let down her guard.

She knew that the threat from the imperial court had only just begun, and the real test had only just begun.
