Chapter 255: Building Housing
Chapter 255: Building Housing
The sun shone brightly on every inch of the plain, and the air was intoxicatingly fresh. However, for Ye Wan and her team, this fresh and tranquil land concealed a pressing reality: without a stable home, even the most beautiful scenery could not withstand the harsh weather and challenges of survival. Therefore, the team's top priority today was to build housing and provide a solid shelter for everyone.
"Everyone, pay attention! Today we officially begin building the cabins!" Ye Wan stood in the center of the camp, holding a simple plan map in her hand and pointing to the marked areas. "We'll proceed with construction in phases, prioritizing accommodation for all core members, followed by housing for the rest of the team. The cabins' structural design must be simple and stable, ensuring everyone can weather the most challenging times here."
Her tone was clear and firm, and her eyes sparkled with an inspiring light. At this moment, she shouldered the responsibility and was full of confidence, knowing that only through this pragmatic approach could she lay a more solid foundation for the team.
"Okay! Start preparing the wood!" Xie Linchuan's voice came from the back. He and several core members had already begun felling trees with tools and axes, their movements skillful and efficient. As the technical backbone of the team, Xie Linchuan always displayed calmness and decisiveness in critical moments, which was why Ye Wan had always trusted him.
Building a log cabin isn't complicated, but it does require patience and meticulousness, especially for a team without any modern tools. Every piece of wood must be precisely cut and fitted. Even so, Ye Wan knows this work is a great training opportunity for the team. Not only does everyone experience the joy of building a home with their own hands, but they also develop a deeper sense of belonging to the land.
Logging and transportation
First, Xie Linchuan and several team members were responsible for selecting suitable trees. These trees needed to have thick trunks and be strong enough to support the entire wooden house frame. After the trees were felled, they used axes and saws to cut them into the required lengths and transported them to the designated construction site.
"The wood quality of this tree is good and of moderate hardness, making it suitable for making frames." While inspecting the wood, Xie Linchuan directed other members to start cutting.
Wang Hao came over, holding a large knife, and was examining the wood's grain. "The wood's growth rings are quite dense, so it's strong and durable. It should be able to support the roof."
"As expected of an engineer, you have a unique vision!" Ye Wan smiled. "Then I'll follow your advice and try to save time and ensure quality."
Every time a tree fell, there was a slight roar, but more of a "crack" as the wood hit the ground, as if the entire plain was applauding the team's efforts. After the wood was delivered to the construction site, the members sorted and stacked it one by one, fully preparing for the subsequent construction of the wooden house.
"Are these woods enough?" Ye Wan walked to Xie Linchuan and asked.
"That should be about it." Xie Linchuan nodded, "But if it's not enough, we can continue to choose in the surrounding woods."
"Then let's proceed according to the plan. We can't wait until the wood is fully prepared before starting work. Time waits for no one." Ye Wan made a decisive decision.
As the wood was gradually prepared, the team members began the next stage of work - building the frame of the cabin.
Build a framework
Building the cabin's frame is a crucial step in the construction process. The precise placement of each beam determines the stability of the house. Ye Wan and Xie Linchuan personally participated in the frame construction, while other team members divided their responsibilities into laying the foundation, transporting lumber, and constructing the walls.
"Wang Hao, you are responsible for supervising the construction of the wooden frame and ensuring that every wooden beam is strong and stable." Ye Wan assigned tasks to each team while checking the already built wooden structure.
"I understand! With me here, I guarantee there will be no problem!" Wang Hao responded confidently, his eyes sparkling with excitement. The feeling of building a home in nature with his own hands made him feel like he had found a sense of belonging.
"Li Chen, take the others and prepare soil and stones to reinforce the foundation." Ye Wan continued to assign tasks. "Try to ensure the stability of the roof. This is crucial for resisting wind and rain."
As each piece of wood was precisely placed, the outline of the cabin gradually took shape. The entire process was filled with intense tension and coordination, and everyone was fully committed to ensuring every step was executed to perfection. Ye Wan's command was steady and decisive, her presence like a towering tree, providing shelter and guiding the team forward step by step.
Building walls and roofs
Building the walls and roof is the final step in cabin construction and the most challenging part for teamwork. To ensure stability, the walls are constructed using a combination of wood and stone, while the roof is constructed using alternating layers of thatch and wood planks, providing both effective insulation and improved rain protection.
"The thatch can't be laid too densely. Air circulation is very important." Ye Wan stood in front of the wooden house, which had already taken shape, and carefully instructed the team members, "It must stay dry so that it can be used for a long time."
With the last piece of thatch on the roof, the wooden house was finally completed. Standing in front of the newly built house, Ye Wan breathed a sigh of relief, a satisfied smile on her face.
"It's finally done, thank you all for your hard work!" Ye Wan looked at the completed wooden houses and said to everyone with a smile.
Everyone stopped what they were doing and looked up at the house they had built, their eyes gleaming with excitement and a sense of accomplishment. They knew that this was more than just a place to stay; it also symbolized their determination to take root in this land and was the starting point of their future lives.
The warmth of a new home
"Look, this place, even the sunlight shining through the windows of the wooden house seems particularly warm." Wang Hao walked into the completed wooden house and exclaimed.
"Isn't this our dream home?" Li Chen put down his tools, walked into the house, and patted the wall. "It's sturdy and warm, it feels great!"
Everyone walked into the wooden house, feeling the warmth that belonged to them. Although the wooden house looked simple, it brought spiritual comfort to every member. It was not only a place to shelter from the wind and rain, but also the result of their hard work and the hope for the future.
Ye Wan stood in front of the cabin, watching the busy figures of her team members, her heart filled with pride. She knew that the road ahead would still be full of challenges, but she firmly believed that as long as she had this group of people walking together, no matter what difficulties they encountered, they would rise to the challenge and go further.
"Next, we will continue to improve this home and make it more complete." Ye Wan said to everyone with a smile, "This is just the beginning. The future will be even better."
The team members responded in unison, with a determined glint in their eyes. "Yes, the future will be even better!"
